Chapter 112: The Death of Basilisk

Watching the Dragon and the Basilisk fall out of the castle together, Tom Riddle was horrified.

"Are you going to...?" He seemed to realize something. "No! Serpent, run!"

Alaric cast a mocking glance at him.

"Do you know how eagles hunt snakes?" he asked coldly.

"N-no—" Tom screamed in despair.

The dragon then flapped its massive wings and soared into the sky.

It leisurely circled above Hogwarts.

The Basilisk creature slithered on the ground, desperately trying to escape the range of the dragon's attack.

Unfortunately, the dragon's flying speed far exceeded that of the Basilisk's crawling.

With just a flap of his wings, Alaric immediately caught up with the Basilisk.

He slightly retracted his wings, leaned forward, and dove towards the direction of the Basilisk.

As his body was about to make contact with the ground, he flexibly spread his wings again, arresting his descent, drawing a graceful arc, and then flying back up.

At the lowest point of the trajectory, the dragon precisely positioned itself just under a meter from the Basilisk. His front claws seized the opportunity and firmly grasped the Basilisk's body.

Although the serpent's body was very heavy, Alaric's flying ability was not to be underestimated. He carried the serpent, continuously flying higher into the sky.

The serpent's body wriggled and struggled under Alaric's claws.

But because it was in the air, the serpent had nowhere to exert force, and simple struggles could not break through the dragon's defense, so such struggles ultimately amounted to nothing.

Finally, Alaric brought the serpent to a height of several thousand meters. This height was enough to kill the serpent from the fall, so he adjusted his flying posture again and dived towards the ground once more.

Gravity made his dive faster and faster. Finally, in mid-air, he spread his front claws and released the serpent.

The Basilisk was thus thrown from several thousand meters high, crashing heavily onto a tower of Hogwarts Castle.

The Basilisk's body, under the weight of its immense mass and the height of several thousand meters, shattered the tower made of stone.

The Basilisk itself was also smashed to a pulp in this powerful collision.

When Alaric landed beside the Basilisk, the Basilisk, with shattered bones, ruptured organs, and heavy bleeding, was barely alive.

Alaric transformed back into his human form, drew his Infinity Blade, and swung it forcefully at the Basilisk's neck.

With a "crunch!" sound.

The serpent's neck was severed.

Thus ended the life of this powerful creature that had lived in the Chamber of Secrets for thousands of years.

Alaric originally intended to deal with the serpent's body and collect precious materials.

However, because the serpent's body was too badly damaged from the fall, he had to spend a lot of time dealing with this mass of bloody flesh and broken bones.

Normally, he could have done this, but now, Tom Riddle was still around. His Horcrux—the diary—had not been destroyed. So Alaric had to turn back and deal with this first.

He hurried back to the castle, to the place where he had fought the Basilisk. But Tom Riddle was no longer there.

He used magic to search around, but still found nothing.

"Damn it," Alaric gritted his teeth in frustration.

This guy actually saw the situation was not favorable and abandoned the Basilisk, seizing the opportunity to escape on his own.

Indeed, he was the ruthless Voldemort, able to act decisively at critical moments.

However, fortunately, during the battle just now, Alaric had kept a card up his sleeve.

He did not reveal all the information he knew, like the villains in movies and shows tend to do when they have the upper hand.

He did not mention that Tom Riddle was just a memory of Voldemort, hiding in his diary, nor did he say that Tom was currently parasitizing and consuming Ginny Weasley.

He knew all these crucial pieces of information, but he still pretended not to know.

Since Tom Riddle didn't know that Alaric had already grasped this information, it was unlikely that he would change hosts at the last minute.

Because now, he had already consumed most of Ginny, and with just a little more time, he would be able to have a complete body through Ginny's vitality, achieving resurrection.

And casually changing hosts would make him waste the efforts of half a school year.

This was something Voldemort could not tolerate.

So, for now, Alaric decided to pretend not to know about this and secretly find the diary where Riddle was hiding from Ginny.

Then, as long as he used his Infinity Blade to destroy this Horcrux, Tom Riddle would disappear forever, and everything would truly come to an end.

After a while, seeing Alaric return victorious, Hermione and Penelope hurriedly rushed to his side from their hiding place.

"Was your Animagus transformation just now a Fire Dragon?" Penelope exclaimed, "To defeat the Basilisk like that, you're really powerful."

"How could your Animagus be a Dragon?" Hermione asked in confusion.

"The books say that Animagi cannot transform into magical creatures.

Throughout history, all attempts to transform into magical creatures by wizards have failed. How did you do it?"

Alaric and the two of them chatted like this.

Soon, Dumbledore arrived with the professors.

There was no way around it. After all, both the dragon and the Basilisk were colossal creatures, and the commotion they caused was too great.

Not only did they collapse a wall of Hogwarts Castle, they also destroyed a tower.

Now the Basilisk's bloody corpse was still in the ruins of the tower.

"My goodness! You actually killed a basilisk!" After hearing Alaric's explanation, the professors exclaimed one after another.

They had never thought that the monster in the Chamber of Secrets was actually a serpent.

And before they could discover this monster, Alaric had already killed it ahead of them.

This made them somewhat unable to accept it. As professors, they were actually protected by a student—even these professors dared not say that they could kill a Basilisk and still escape unscathed.

Professor McGonagall looked particularly proud at Alaric because his student had defeated the legendary serpent with his unique dragon Animagus. As his Transfiguration professor, she felt honored.

When they heard that the young Tom Riddle had reappeared at Hogwarts, the professors were particularly surprised, especially Professor Snape, whose eyes were especially inscrutable.

The professors couldn't explain how Voldemort had managed this. Only Dumbledore had a pensive expression.

He knew that Voldemort was lingering by means of Horcruxes, and it seemed that Dumbledore also had his suspicions about this.
