105 Chapter 105: Dragon Soul

On a snowy night, Alaric ventured alone into the Green Dragon Sanctuary—a sprawling mountain range.

In reality, the Ministry of Magic in the UK—or, for that matter, magical ministries worldwide—didn't enforce stringent protection for the dragon Sanctuary because the creatures within were formidable enough on their own.

Hunting a dragon was no task for one or two wizards.

Even professional dragonologists or dragon tamers needed at least seven or eight people working together to barely suppress a single dragon.

To truly control them, it required a collaboration of a dozen wizards.

This made poaching dragons far from simple.

If poachers aimed to kill a dragon, their required team would need to be even larger, as the dragons fiercely resisted, and casualties were unavoidable with insufficient manpower.

Moreover, hunting a dragon took a considerable amount of time.

Dragons were inherently powerful creatures with terrifying magical resistance.

Even using dark magic to kill a dragon required prolonged combat, inflicting fatal injuries multiple times before achieving the desired outcome.

Yet, such battles generated significant noise, visible from miles away.

Furthermore, dragons were massive creatures, meaning taking away the entire spoils wasn't an easy feat.

In other words, the staff in the dragon Sanctuary didn't need to patrol cautiously and meticulously.

They could easily detect the commotion between poachers and dragons from a distance and promptly alert the Aurors for defense against poachers.

However, who would have expected that there would be such a weirdo like Alaric?

Not only was he a lone wolf, but he also possessed exquisite magical skills, wand like Spellweaver as a cheat, and a weapon like the Infinity Blade, enabling him to single-handedly hunt a dragon.

Additionally, he had the unparalleled Traceless Extension Charm allowing him to carry away a dragon's corpse with just a backpack.

For the Sanctuary's staff and dragonologists, Alaric was utterly unstoppable.

After infiltrating the Sanctuary, Alaric cast an Illusion Charm on himself and patrolled the skies on a broomstick.

His target was a solitary adult Common Welsh Green Dragon.

Finding such a suitable target was relatively easy because, apart from the Fireball Dragon, most dragons did not tolerate sharing territory with others.

Soon, he discovered a cave that might house a dragon, as the temperature at the cave entrance was significantly above normal—dragons could inadvertently breathe fire even in their sleep.

The cave was shallow, and upon entering, Alaric immediately spotted the soundly sleeping Welsh Green Dragon.

It was approximately six meters long, entirely emerald green, with thin upper and lower jaws. Its scales were relatively smooth, with not many spikes.

After identifying the suitable target, Alaric decided to make his move, but not before setting up some precautions at the cave entrance.

He took out a bell from his bag and hung it on a tree outside the cave.

This was a Silencing Bell, a magical item Alaric had crafted, imitating Dumbledore's Deluminator.

When activated, it could absorb surrounding sounds and release them later.

Through the Silencing Bell, Alaric could effectively prevent the Sanctuary wizards from discovering the noise during the dragon slaying.

Additionally, he conjured a black mist to obscure the light.

Fully prepared, Alaric finally embarked on the first transaction of this global journey.

The process was quite simple. He first used Transfiguration to create iron chains to bind the sleeping dragon, then swiftly decapitated it at the neck.

The key was ensuring the dragon remained in a deep sleep and that the sword was sharp enough.

The latter was crucial, as not everyone had an Infinity Blade.

Even alchemy masters like Dumbledore or Nicolas Flamel couldn't produce such a powerful weapon without Alaric's ability.

In fact, the dragon-slaying process went smoothly.

The Welsh Green Dragon was cleanly beheaded in its slumber, with its formidable life force only prompting meaningless struggles.

However, with the triple insurance of iron chains, black mist, and the Silencing Bell, the dragon met its demise without a sound.

However, when this green dragon completely died, Alaric suddenly saw some strange white light on its body.

The white light continuously emerged from the dragon's corpse.

Alaric could vaguely see that the shape of the light resembled the appearance of this Welsh Green Dragon during its lifetime, but it was translucent and had closed eyes.

Could this be the soul of the dragon?

If so, then...

Seeing this strange light cluster, Alaric boldly speculated.

Suddenly, the light cluster moved.

There seemed to be a tremendous force pulling on Alaric, drawing the white light continuously towards him and then into his body.

However, due to the enormous size of the light cluster, the absorption process took a long time.

Throughout the entire process, Alaric himself couldn't move, but he eagerly directed all the light clusters entering his body towards his brain.

At this moment, he could feel his magical power, his mental strength continuously growing, and more importantly, he sensed his soul undergoing a sublimation—ascending towards a more noble soul than that of dragons.

Alaric finally confirmed that the spiritual trial during his first transformation into a dragon had indeed caused a change in his soul.

Now, he was a dragon descendant, gaining strength continuously by killing dragons and absorbing dragon souls.

Unfortunately, this strengthening was limited.

On one hand, because dragons weren't true dragons, much weaker than real dragons, they couldn't provide Alaric with as much enhancement— they didn't even impart any dragon knowledge to him.

On the other hand, the transformation of Alaric's soul by the dragon soul mostly involved the sublimation of the dragon soul's rank, which was based on hierarchy rather than strength.

This hierarchical power couldn't make him significantly stronger unless the sublimation was completed.

It was like the stocks of an internet company, unable to be cashed in before the company went public. However, to go public, sufficient accumulation was needed.

This provided Alaric with another direction for reinforcement, different from accumulating magical knowledge.

It involved continuously absorbing dragon souls, allowing his soul to undergo sublimation.

In his understanding, such sublimation would grant him a demigod-like soul.

Further down the line, it might even reach the level above demigods but below true gods, similar to the Dragon Guardians, and perhaps even become a true dragon god like Alduin.

However, relying on the souls of dragons at the level of dragons, it was estimated that killing all the dragons in this world wouldn't be enough.
