Chapter 83: Before School

Arriving in the dining hall, William looked for his usual seat, there were already some professors in the place, but it was normal to see William early in the morning, no one was surprised.

"It's not advisable to be in the same place all the time, William," the soft and deep voice reached William's ears who looked up in surprise, there was the most respected old man in the wizarding world. Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of Howgarts.

"Headmaster?" asked William, trying to make sense of his words.

"I just think you could find another seat, a little closer to the teachers, it might change your perspective" William looked towards the teachers' seats, he could see Professor Lockhart arriving ready for a new day, but as soon as their eyes met they knew their enemy was on the other side.

"Professor Lockhart, I heard you had a little disagreement during class."

"Yes, it was just a difference of opinion, you know the curriculum of the Defense Against the Dark Arts course, sometimes I miss Professor Quirrell, even though he didn't teach much, at least we could see action," William said lifting his shoulders, "reading fantasy books is not my style, many Muggles have those practices."

"Muggle books..." Dumbledore stroked his beard, "Yesterday, some Gryffindor students spoke to Professor McGonagall about the high points loss."

"It was only two hundred points, Harry will get them back even if he sleeps in class, no problem," hearing William's statement caused surprise in Dumbledore, there was no sign of camaraderie in William's words, yet he decided not to take action, if what he had seen in the newspaper was true, then it wouldn't be long before he would be forming friendly relationships with his housemates.

"Harry is a good student, no doubt, but Miss Granger is one of the students who contributes the most points to Gryffindor."

"Yes, Hermione is very intelligent, she always answers everything the professors ask, I'm sure it must be a pleasure for some professors to teach such a growing witch."

William then noticed that Dumbledore smiled slightly and started to walk towards the professors, "I would love to chat more, but a pumpkin pie has been waiting for me for a few minutes now, and don't worry, I will try to talk to Professor Lockhart a bit about your situation".

"Ah, sure" William stayed in the same position, surprised, but he preferred not to continue the chat, the truth was he didn't want to be around Dumbledore at any time, if it wasn't for his desire to know more about the magical world, he would keep a low profile the whole year so as not to turn into a chess piece.

"Sigh..." he let out a long sigh as he thought about the situation.

If it wasn't for Voldemort, I wouldn't have to worry about anything," William buried his head in his arms, considering the family he belonged to, he would have a lot of trouble in the future if he wasn't strong and smart.

'Come to think of it, Ginny Weasley must have the diary in her hands by now, will she have released the basilisk?

If all events follow their natural course, all I have to do is help them find out it was a basilisk, Harry will destroy the Horcrux and become Voldemort's main target, and I will get a free class pass to the other side of the world, away from my family and the dangers.

William had a smile on his face as he ate quietly, some students saw him with complicated expressions, either because of the points he had lost the day before or simply because of how happy he looked.

Although Tom Riddle's diary could be of great use, Voldemort has a great control over curses and such, he might learn something, although changing the plot wouldn't be advisable either.

In William's mind, there were many ideas of curses he could learn, and not only that, but to increase his understanding of other spells or curses, any would be perfect.

Well, it's time to leave the bad ideas behind, the curses I have in my repertoire are enough. The Corrosive Curse is already capable of destroying far superior enemies, even Fenrir Greyback had trouble with it, if I learn more curses I will only draw more negative attention to myself.

He finished eating and left the dining room, he had classes to attend, the library would be his main stop later.

One thing I am sure of, Madame Pince will be happy to see me in the library again.
