Chapter 30: The Ideal Habitat

During the following days William returned to his routine, he spent the days in the library between classes learning and trying to understand the spells in a more proactive way, of course there was a difference from the previous situation. Cho Chang now frequented to be near William and was always asking about some subjects.

When Cho Chang was not with William it was Hermione who arrived with questions, according to William's own observations she was studying Muggle theories with books that her parents sent her, now she had double ration of study which also turned into an accumulation of spent energy.

In addition to practicing spells and incantations, William had his own potions practice, he attended supplementary classes and asked permission to use the potions classroom, of course Severus always had some kind of comment towards William but as he was not Potter then there would be no problems.

The afternoons were to visit Hagrid, Pruna had a normal growth and William followed the instruction books for her upbringing to the letter, on the other hand Norberta had an exponential growth. In just one month she could barely fall inside the hut and it was urgent to move her before she was discovered, Norberta was now a tame and calm dragon as long as she had her food, of course William and Hagrid were worried about having some prize for the dragon to be calm.

"What do we do William?" asked Hagrid looking at Norberta who could barely move inside the hut "The teachers will discover her at any moment, Ron and Harry recommended me to send her to Romania with her brother Charlie but I don't want to be separated from Norberta, she is as harmless as a cat" Hagrid's mood was horrible and not for less after all they were taking away the thing he wanted most in the world, it was basically the equivalent of taking a video game console from a small child.

William stood silently with his arms crossed thinking of a solution, Pruna was soon satisfied and moved towards William biting one of his fingers "Okay good, I get it" said William pulling out a small bag from between his robes and placing it near Pruna so that Pruna could enter calmly.

"That's it!" exclaimed Hagrid seeing what William was doing "Pruna, the griffin and your bag, I hadn't thought of it before but it's an excellent idea!"

"a bag to hold Norberta?" asked William taking the bag where Pruna was "mmm.... yes, I think it should be able to drop but we have to do a bit of work first"

"what do we have to do?" asked Hagrid excitedly.

William took out one of the bags that were sent by the betting house elves with the prize coins, the bags were empty as the prize was deposited in other bags inside the trunk in the Gryffindor dormitories. Once the bag was in Hagrid's hands he had Hagrid open it enough so that they could both look inside.

"These bags were enchanted with Capacious extremis to increase their size as much as possible to make the prizes fit, of course the space inside is too much for the Galleons that were delivered into my possession. As I didn't have to return the bags I am using them to transport my belongings and another bag is used as Pruna's habitat while she learns to fly" William explained the properties of the bag enough for Hagrid to understand "the inside of this bag is empty so we will have to adapt it so that Norberta can live inside, we have to do enough to create a lake inside where she can hunt and eat as if she was in the wild".

Hagrid wrote down everything William was saying, he himself was a connoisseur of magical creatures but having William's advice also helped, for the half giant to have a friend to help him was what he had always wanted.

Working in Norberta's habitat was specifically not a simple thing, that is to say they had to make everything as natural as possible so that Norberta would not try to escape from unforeseen events. The effort of the duo was immense, even with simple spells and incantations they had to work quite physically, by the time the bag was ready it was late at night.

"That's it" William said with his hands on his hips, he had taken off his shirt and jackets some time ago, he was only wearing his shirt with the sleeves folded up to his elbows, his clothes were dirty all over and even his hair had dirt in it. Hagrid was no more elegant it was clear, but unlike William the Hogwarts ranger was soaked and it was because his task was focused on the habitat lake for Norberta, Hagrid had to catch fish and look for everything he needed to create an artificial lake.

"We have to get Norberta into the bag" Hagrid looked at the dragon who was resting in the hut with her eyes closed.

"Did you bring what I asked for?" asked William, Hagrid handed over in his hands a fish bigger than the white-haired "swordfish" he muttered with a smile approaching Norberta.

The dragon's eyes opened out of nowhere as she smelled the scent of the fish "Do you want the fish?" asked William looking at the dragon as he put the head of the swordfish inside the bag, Norbeta slowly stood up hitting her head against the roof of the hut and making several things fall to the floor.

William approached with the bag in his hand, Norberta was only inches away from the fish "Come and get it" said William releasing the swordfish into the bag, an action that was repeated by Norberta. The dragoness rushed forward and dove into the bag immediately emptying the hut.

"Ready!" exclaimed William happily holding the bag in his hand "Everything is ready now, Norberta will be able to grow and live quietly inside the bag until we find a place to keep her properly."

"Thank you William, again I owe you a lot" said Hagrid patting William's back "But I think it's too late now, you should get back to the castle before the professors know you're not in the dormitories"
