22 Chapter 22: The Limits of Imagination

"Finally I find you" Hermione stood in front of William who was reading a book in the library on the side of a bookshelf near the forbidden section, the book in question was about the Tarantallegra enchantment, the dancing feet enchantment.

William turned his attention away from the book and looked at the girl "what's wrong?"

"You said you would teach me about spells and muggle theories" said Hermione showing several papers in her hands "I prepared for this but it's been three days since you said that and I couldn't find you anywhere, you didn't show up in the common room, I've been waiting for you"

"Ah, I've been busy, I have a lot of... books to read and I came to the common room after curfew."

"After?!" exclaimed Hermione looking at the white-haired man "how is it possible you didn't get caught?"

William lifted his shoulders innocently, the truth was that he did know but he couldn't say, the mind's eye was a secret to himself.

"But well, you're already here then I might as well explain right now" William closed the book and moved to a nearby table where his own belongings were, they both took a seat facing each other "what did you say the question was?"

"About wingardium leviosa, when you used it against the mountain troll."

"Ah, I remember" said William "About levitation and Troll impacts. First of all I will ask what is the difference between levitatory, rocket, glider and float enchantment?"

"The levitatory enchantment is used to make objects fly or levitate, while the others are its variations. The rocket charm causes the target to rise at a high speed, the gliding charm allows the object to move in the air and the gliding charm is a less magic consuming variation" Hermione answered quickly and just as William was expecting, i.e. it is the correct answer for an exam

"But based on what point does an object float or levitate?"

Hermione pointed her finger upwards "upwards?"

"what would happen if I am standing on the ceiling and I want to make an object levitate?" asked William pointing upwards again.

Hermione's great intelligence quickly got the idea "If it's on the ceiling then your up is to the floor, if you're on the left your up is right and also the other way around. That means-"

"It depends on the perspective you're pointing at, the levitating charm is simply a mind game based on gravity, that invisible force that keeps objects stuck to the ground, the magic of nature explained by the Muggle Isaac Newton in the 17th century."

"Gravity?" asked Hermione doubting a bit what William was saying but he simply picked up a book and dropped it on the floor.

"Gravity" he repeated again "the energy that forces objects and people to reach the ground, everything is based on the electromagnetic fields of the earth but those are things you must learn in detail, the most important thing right now is the mind, wingardium leviosa is an incantation that makes the object float according to your perspective of position and that itself allows the displacement, all the variations of the incantation are just that, unnecessary variations, the only thing necessary is the main incantation and the mental perspective"

"But what about the troll?" asked Hermione again.

"I based it on the atomic theory of atoms, everything is composed of atoms and these are not considered living things. Again there is the perspective of enchantment, the fact that you cannot levitate a living body means that there is a compound or a physical spectrum that is incompatible but we know that inanimate objects can be levitated, now we just have to look for the things that both possess, in this case both possess atoms and if the atoms can be levitated then you don't need to levitate the body but the atoms surrounding the body making an invisible suit that covers the target. The rest is magic" William invoked the spell on himself and Hermione making them both float slightly "magic depends on the head, the more open minded you are, the more you can do" William said.

Hermione was delighted to see that she was floating with such a simple spell as wingardium leviosa.

They spent the afternoon together in the library with William explaining each of the things that influenced his spells, giving answers to all the doubts that the girl had, when they finished with their studies the sun was falling to the ground and the light was disappearing.

"It's time to go back."

"So soon?" asked William looking out the window "Madam Pince is still in the library."

"are you leaving after her?"

"Of course, someone has to make sure no one is inside" expressed William with false pride

"Still I think it's better to go back to the common room before it's too late, I don't want to get a punishment" Hermione got up and pulled William by the arm forcing the latter to follow, between sighs the white-haired boy could only walk while his belongings followed him floating.

As they left the library William followed Hermione closely until they ran head on into two black haired students who looked exactly alike "Jessica, isn't that William Rosier the little Gryffindor failure who walked past us?"

"Your eyes are undamaged Damian, he certainly is our little failure brother" smiled the Slytherin student waving her wand slightly "did you forget to show respect to your older brothers?"

"Who are they?" asked Hermione whispering to William's side.

William let out a long tired sigh "They are my siblings, Jessica and Damian Rosier, both belonging to Slytherin house as you may notice"

"The house you fortunately don't belong to, a failure like you is not worthy of being with the true purebloods, for you it's better to hide next to the Weasleys all rolling around in the mud together" laughed Damian looking at his younger brother "come to think of it next to you you have a mudblood too"

Willam reached out his arm and hid Hermione behind "Don't mess with her, your target is me, let's keep the foreigners away from home business do you think that's wise brother?"

"Tsk."

Jessica laughed lightly "apparently little William learned to stand up for himself, maybe he really was a Gryffindor after all, sadly your mates don't feel the same way. A Rosier within the Gryffindor, they must feel the story will end the same as with Sirius Black"

William's expression didn't change even with his brothers comments, he really didn't care what they said. Hermione on the other hand was looking at William as if he was a stray dog in the rain.

"Still it is our duty to congratulate you for getting into Hogwarts, no one had hopes for a squib like you but you made it anyway, you even challenged your professor to a duel, mother will be pleased when you come home" both siblings laughed sinisterly and continued on their way leaving William next to Hermione in the free corridor.

"Come on, we have to get there before curfew" William said walking as if nothing had happened, his expression didn't change at all but Hermione could notice the glint in his eyes, an uncontrollable anger that was caught in the white-haired man's stony face.
