20 Chapter 20: Natural Enemies

Classes for defense against the dark arts, one of the most popular subjects at Hogwarts but also the most controversial throughout history due to its excessive change of instructors.

William like all first year students had this subject in his academic load as compulsory, the truth was the only subject that no wizard was against learning.

The professor on duty was Quirinus Quirrell, a tall, thin and fair-skinned wizard, very pale in William's eyes but William himself knew the reason, the professor's left eye had a nervous twitch and he stuttered when he spoke, besides shaking on many occasions. In the eyes of the younger wizards he was nothing more than a coward and they made fun of the professor in hushed voices or in the corridors.

"The he-hex reject Fli-Flipendo can be used to s...s-stun several enemies or activate some swit-ches" Professor Quirrell's halting voice could barely be heard to the farthest links of the hall which is where William was sitting with several papers in his hands, he was not paying attention directly to Quirrell's words as the Flipendo is a spell he already had in his repertoire from a few days ago.

William was not interested in any of the professor's words, truth be told Quinrell's stuttering was getting on his nerves and that was why William was focused on his papers, a sheet where to write down the magic formulas and possible changes that could be made to it.

"wait until the wand glow is a strong purple color, how do you know that?" William looked to the side noticing the girl who was focused on her papers "what happens if the light changes to another color?"

"Weren't you in the front stalls?" asked William as he recognized Hermione Granger, the student with the nickname bookworm, that nickname would also be William's nickname if William wasn't the son of a Death Eater, instead among the students they call him the little Death Eater.

"I wanted to see the class in a more distant view, I know the spell anyway and I see you are doing the same" Hermione said calmly, proving herself worthy of the nickname bookworm for the Slytherin students' jokes. William would also be called a bookworm if it wasn't for the prestige of his family instead he is called a little morph wizard by all the students in the school.

"I'm just taking little notes" mentioned William placing a note on his sheet with the Flipendo charm "If you let the color go from strong lilac red then the spell will go in the opposite direction bouncing off the user, but if you force it quickly to get to dark red then you will have a triple effect, the problem is that you must have at least the strength of an adult to get to the red light"

"Red light?" asked Hermione "I knew something about the lilac red light but I hadn't noticed anything about the red light where did you get the information?"

At the girl's question William pulled out a sheet again and handed it to her "here are the spell calculations, you won't find it in a book because no one seems to want to write it down"

"or no one has ever figured it out before" Hermione interrupted looking at William again "This is a new spell, it's not the original Flipendo"

"As of this moment it is only a variable of an enchantment already created, besides it is in the theory phase, I don't have enough power to demonstrate it in front of everyone and it will stay that way for a while" William settled back in the back of the chair while leaving some of his attention on Quirrell's lessons, he didn't want to transform himself into this wizard's target at least not for now.

"Did you do the same thing with the Troll?"

"What?"

"That day when the troll entered the castle you confronted it and killed it, you used a spell that was taught in class but you used it in a different way" Hermione looked at William again "I would never have thought of doing it that way, besides wingardium leviosa can't lift living things"

William scratched his head in annoyance, he had one of the main characters of the saga next to him asking about her spells, it would be simple to confuse her but after a while she would figure it out, the best course of events in William's mind was to teach her how he did it.

"It is due to the use of Muggle theories so that magic will change its natural course and evolve in a different way."

"Muggle theories?!" exclaimed Hermione getting up from her seat and consequently gaining the attention of everyone in the classroom including Quirrell "I'm sorry professor" apologized the girl, William could see Ron chuckle on the bottom but the moment the two of them made eye contact he stopped laughing.

Hermione returned to her seat and muttered "how was it that you used Muggle theories?"

"I used the theory of gravity employed by Isaac Newton and the atomic theory promulgated by many physicists" William gave a vague answer but Hermione was more shocked by this, for her coming from a Muggle society she had yet to come into contact with such knowledge and it was well known that wizards hated Muggles as well as their knowledge, but here was William, a pureblood wizard of the same age as her but with more knowledge about Muggle society than hers, to the point of being able to implement it into magic.

"Wi-William Rosier could you step forward to de-demonstrate" Quirrell called to the white-haired man from the far end of the stands.

"Sure" William stepped forward, walked across the classroom to the front.

"c-can you use the i...i-ncantation?" asked Quinrell, William waved his wand calmly and cast his incantation towards one of the test dummies, this dummy swung backwards from the force of the incantation surprising everyone.

Quirrell clapped his hands happily "good, le-let's go to the next one."

"But I would like Professor Quirrell to help me in a practice combat of this charm, I propose a friendly duel in front of the class" William smiled and extended his hand towards the professor "I think it is the best way to do a practice for the defenses of the dark arts".

At William's suggestion all the students asked for the friendly duel to become a reality and even though Professor Quirrell wanted to refuse in the end he ended up giving up in the face of the pressure.
