23 The Theory of Colors!

As Harry finished up with Woods, he ran to the room of requirements for his daily practice after dinner. He decided to change his practice regimen after achieving his breakthrough during the day. Now that he had a much larger mana pool he could do much more strenuous exercises and practice advanced spells which he originally couldn't due to his low mana capacity.

But as he sat down, he suddenly remembered something.

Back when he awakened his Eye of Magic, he saw the multicolored aura around everyone. He didn't think much about the colors at that time until he saw the change in Ron's aura. At that time it struck him that maybe the colors also have some meaning.

The colors weren't emotions since everybody has a huge spectrum of emotions, not just one or two. So, it could only be related to mana.

Then he remembered the 'red sun' he saw when he looked at Fawkes' mana signature. Phoenix is a creature of fire. They are born from it and are literally the embodiment of the element of fire. So the scarlet red color in its aura could only signify it's affinity to the fire element.

'Yes, this makes perfect sense. Even Dumbledore has an affinity for fire. In the original story, when they went to get the Slytherin's locket from the Inferi caves, Dumbledore used the spirit fire spell to fight against the Inferis. Even though it was the best means to fight against them, the power Dumbledore showed at that time indicated his strong affinity for the fire element. Even Fawkes might be attracted to him due to this' thought Harry as he considered a good explanation for the aura colors.

So he reached a conclusion that the colors were definitely related to the natural elements. Red should be fire, blue should be water, brown is earth, white should be air, green should be poison, grey or black represent darkness, golden might be the light element and so on. He decided to call it the 'Theory of Elements' or in other words, 'Theory of Colors'.

This was something that could change the way people perceived magic.

This means that instead of focusing on different branches of magic, you should focus on your specific element. The basic level of expertise was obviously necessary but in the later stages, the emphasis should be on elemental magic. For example, until the fifth year, everyone can get the regular version of education. But starting from the sixth year, instead of electives like alchemy, students could be taught magic related to their specific element. Someone with fire affinity would be better off learning how to cast fireballs and spirit fire rather than learning how to do advanced Transfiguration. Similarly, someone with earth affinity would be much better at Transfiguration and shield related magic. Space type affinity will find it much easier to learn the Apparation compared to other elements.

So, if there was a way to figure out someone's elemental affinity from the beginning, that student could focus on it and get much stronger compared to now.

But, it would be very difficult to determine the affinity as there was no mechanism to do so. Unless one opened his Eye of Magic, these elemental auras weren't even visible. Moreover, there needs to be a fair and unbiased means for testing, otherwise, if only a selected few could figure out your elemental affinity, it could cause some serious harm to the wizarding world.

Harry felt really excited about his findings. This was a groundbreaking discovery and could usher in a new era in the world of magic.

However, it then occurred to him that it was almost impossible for him to be the first person to figure this out. Magicians have been there for millennia and the probability that he was the first ever magician to unlock the Eye of Magic was almost zero. So, if there were wizards who found out what he discovered, why was there no record of it anywhere. Such a huge discovery was something that should be treated as Gospel. But he has never even heard of something like this.

It was as if it had been purposefully erased from the historical records.

Harry felt truly stumped regarding the reasons for such acts. This was something that could make the entire magic system better. So, why would anyone go to such lengths to hide it?

He thought about it a bit more but since couldn't find any explanation, he decided to give up on it for the time being.

Then he thought of finding his own affinity. So, he used the 'Eye of Magic' to look at his own mana signature.

But no matter how hard he tried, all he ever saw was the size and the compactness of his aura. He never saw any colors around him. It wasn't even white like Madam Hooch who he assumed to have the air element affinity. He really didn't see any colors. His aura was just a colorless ball of light surrounding his body which he could feel due to his high perception of mana. Maybe the colorless aura also corresponded to some element but he couldn't figure out which one. But if this was true, then he wouldn't be able to master a lot of spells he had his eyes on. Moreover, it was almost guaranteed that Voldemort had the darkness affinity and was a true master of darkness elemental spells. He might not know the elemental theory discovered by Harry, but he was still the greatest example of how strong a wizard can get once he trains in his own element.

Thus, Harry wanted to find out his element as soon as possible as that could be the only way for him to get strong enough to beat Voldemort.

This meant he needed to do a lot of experiments in order to figure out his own affinity.

He then created a list of all the spells he knew for each element. It was not an easy task as many spells didn't have an exact classification. Many spells also couldn't be classified with his current knowledge of elemental theory. So, he went to the library and spent the next few hours scouring for spells that fall under specific elements by its very description.

He paid special attention to the ones that had level wise spell structure. These spells would have many variations and each variation was the next level of its previous version. So, a wizard can measure his growth by his ability to cast the higher leveled spells for the same type rather than casting spells of different types. It was a much better indicator and Harry planned to use it to measure his proficiency with each element.

If he was able to cast the advanced spells of one particular element more easily as compared to another element, then it would mean he had a higher affinity with the first element. This would give him a grading chart with a strict order of his elemental affinities. He originally thought of ignoring the basic elements like fire, water etc., as he didn't have any of those colors but then he thought what if he had a universal affinity or neutral affinity?

That would increase his workload by an exponential amount. If he had a universal affinity, he would need to master spells for all elements and find an appropriate set of spells within the whole bunch to use in combat. It would take a huge amount of time to learn so many spells and then even more time to actually master them for combat.

However, if he had a neutral affinity, he would have to spend a lot of time finding neutral type spells. For example, the Alohomora spell or the Patronus Charm, they were both under the neutral category. Although it could be argued that the Patronus charm was of the Light element but it had absolutely no effect against the darkness element itself. It only worked on emotions. It needed positive emotions to cast the spell and was used to counteract against the Dementors. Its other uses could also be categorized under neutral category only.

So, Harry would have to find all these spells and do the same. He would have to master all of them and find out which ones were best suited for combat and create the perfect combination.

He was praying he didn't have any of these two categories, otherwise, he would have to seriously consider bunking his classes. This was something he wasn't willing to do as it could affect his foundations in magic.

So, after creating the list he went back to his dorm and started meditating before falling asleep.

But just before he fell asleep, he remembered something.

"Shit, its Potion's class tomorrow!"
