9 Super Powers

The next day when Danny….no Harry woke up, he felt a new sense of purpose within him. There was a vigor in his steps and his brain was working in the background, trying to figure out ways to get stronger.

He did his morning training and went down for breakfast after freshening up.

His aunt could feel something different about him but couldn't put her finger on what exactly it was. She knew that Harry had been troubled for the past two days. But today it looked like he was back to normal.

She was a little curious about what happened to him but didn't ask since it was quite possibly related to his magical world.

After breakfast, Harry went to No.11 to check up on the renovation work and feeling satisfied with the progress, he returned back home and started working on his next plans.

Since he has accepted his new identity, he decided to step up his game to the next level. He couldn't keep dragging his feet and needs to get familiar with magic as soon as possible.

So he started going through the books on the theory of magic in order to figure out how the spells are constructed.

There were a few basic steps:

1. Imagine the spell in your mind and the result for it.

2. When there is a clear picture in your mind, chant the spell

3. The intonations and pitch were important for this

4. Then move your wand in the correct fashion while chanting

5. You would feel the magic power building up and as you complete the chant, think about releasing the spell from your wand.

The above steps are necessary for casting any spell. Although some spells might have other requirements, essentially all the spells use the above model.

He didn't have any problem with the first three points since his imagination was very powerful due to his powerful soul and years of meditation, while correctly pronouncing the spell only takes a little bit of practice.

But the real problem comes at the fourth step. He didn't have a wand. So there was no way for him to use the wand movements to conjure the spell.

Although he had his doubts about the need to move the wand in a particular order to release a spell, he let it go. He knew that with enough expertise, a wizard can skip the wand movement and directly release the spell.

Since the movements were not necessary, that left him with the only problem, his lack of a wand.

He had his own theories about the use of a wand. It wasn't like it was compulsory, as wandless magic did exist and there have been quite a few wizards who have been able to use wandless magic throughout history. The biggest example being 'Andros the Invincible'. He was a Greek wizard and was known for his ability to cast a Patronus without a wand. On top that, his Patronus was the size of a giant.

Yes, there were spells that absolutely required a wand to complete, such as the killing curse, but other spells might not have such requirements.

So he started with the Lumos spell. It was used to create a globe of light on the tip of your wand.

It was one of the introductory spells along with the levitation spell.

So Harry followed the steps and imagined a globe of light on the tip of his index finger.

But then something happened that left him gobsmacked.

Before he could even chant the spell, he could feel the mana flowing inside his body moving towards his index finger and suddenly a light glow appeared on his fingertip.

It was a shocker for him and he lost his concentration which broke the spell.

His heart was beating very wildly and he just couldn't comprehend as to how it could happen.

He calmed down and started thinking about the reason for this. Then he remembered something.

It was about the underage magic that he had read in the books. There were some cases where underage wizards were found to be able to use some basic magic unintentionally. They couldn't do anything big, only small stuff like creating light globes, or moving objects with a thought.

There were a few examples such as his own mother Lily Evans, who was known to able to affect the plant life around her with her magic. Snape was also one of them.

Dumbledore's sister was an extreme example as she caused an explosion killing her mother when her magic went out of control due to emotional fluctuations.

But the greatest example would be Voldemort. When Dumbledore went to visit him for the first time, he told Dumbledore that he knew there was something inside of him that enabled him to do things others couldn't.

He was able to move objects by making them float, control animals, cause harm to anyone he wanted to and even speak Parseltongue.

He was a clear case of someone with a huge mana pool and some measure of control over his magic.

Harry compared himself to Voldemort and found that there were similarities between the two.

He also had a sizable mana pool now and with constant meditation, over the years he had also gained control over his magic. In fact, he should be way ahead of Voldemort in this aspect.

So he should also be able to do magic with his mind.

This caused his heartbeat to rise once again, because, if his conjectures were true, he would be able to learn wandless magic pretty easily.

He then started practicing again with a renewed vigor and was able to create the Lumos spell pretty easily. He then increased the output of magic and the light glow continued to get brighter.

Then he stopped supplying magic power and spell wore off.

He again thought of the same spell and the light glow was created again.

He continued doing this until he was able to use it like an electric switch. He could create a light bulb in his palms with just a thought and switch it off just the same.

Satisfied with this, he next moved on to the levitation spell. He was very interested in this as there were almost countless uses of this spell. It was practically a form of telekinesis.

If he also included the Accio and the Momentum Spell, he would get the perfect telekinesis effect.

It should be known that telekinesis was considered to be one of the greatest superpowers in his previous world. And if he could also learn Legilimency then he would be just like 'Jean Grey', one of the strongest mutants in X-Men universe.

All these thoughts made him feel excited. It opened a whole new world for him, where he could take a superpower from his previous life comic books and turn it into reality in this world.

So with that, he practiced the levitation spell. This time also he didn't chant the spell and just imagined the chair in front of him to float. The effect was almost instantaneous. The chair started floating right as he thought about it. Although it was wobbly at the beginning, it stabilized after a few more uses.

During this, he could feel the magic power inside him flowing out towards the surroundings.

"Ah so that's how it is", exclaimed Harry. He figured that the magic power that flew out of his hands somehow affected the gravity around the chair and caused it to float.

So if that was true, then the laws of physics which he knew from his previous world weren't completely invalid here. Only that the outcome wasn't something that could be completely explained by science. The missing link in the scientific theories was magic.

As such, he did a lot of experiments over the next few days while trying to recreate the spells with just his mind.

The knowledge of his past life proved to be immensely helpful. For example, while trying to use the Accio spell, he simultaneously cast an anti-gravity or levitation magic on the object. This led to an increase of power for the Accio spell.

One interesting thing which he discovered during the said experiment was that the magic power consumption was lower than the pure Accio spell.

It was simple to understand as it would be a lot easier to pull something that had no gravity rather than something that was bound by the rules of gravity. And this phenomenon was directly proportional to the mass of the object.

Thus, after one week, he had practiced a few simple spells and could use them according to his will.

Actually, the magic he was using wasn't only wandless magic, but also chantless magic.

It was the next level after mastering magic with chants. This was part of the course that Snape taught in the sixth year at Hogwarts in his 'Defense Against the Dark Arts' classes.

So, the normal sequence is usually, magic with chants -> chantless magic -> wandless magic.

But Harry had completely reversed the sequence. He had learned the wandless and chantless magic first. Only after getting his wand would he be able to use the first part of the sequence. Using chants with his wandless magic didn't give much of an improvement to the magic power so he decided to stop using chants.

Although he still familiarized himself with the chants because he didn't want to waste his time at Hogwarts just reciting and correcting his intonations. He would have a lot more important things to do there, so he decided to master the chants of all the magic spells in the books.

It had already been more than a week since he started practicing and now it was time to move into his new house, No. 11, Private Drive.
