8 Daniel Wolf, Harry Potter

The wizarding world has been plagued with wars and conflicts from the very beginning. The reasons for the said wars are also the same as in the case of muggles- greed, envy, religion or in some cases, pure madness.

But in the case of wizards, the aftermath of these wars was quite severe as compared to muggles.

Magic makes the impossible possible. It gives you a power that can sometimes even create illusions of grandeur and what is most commonly known as the 'God Complex'. The people suffering from these illusions are more often than not, some of the most powerful wizards in history. They alone could change the dynamics of power and can quite possibly make or break an entire country by themselves.

The weren't feared because of their powerful spells. There was only so much mana they could possess so the number of spells that can cause mass destruction was very limited in their repertoire.

No, the reason they were truly fearful was more subtle. They almost always were people who could read a human mind like a book. They could bring out your worst fears and then use it to bend you according to their will. They aren't bound by morality or justice and are never pressured by society. They think themselves above such 'mundane' emotions and thus, the 'God Complex' appears.

They would usually give rise to a cult following. These were either a group of fanatics, who have suffered defeat due to a multitude of reasons and they blame it all on the society instead of themselves or they are a bunch of powerful people, joined by an ambition and pursuing some kind of ultimate objective which could change the world.

The first ones are more irrational in their actions but they can still be controlled as their entire movement is based on nothing more than faith. When they realize that their 'God' is not what they thought he was, they would self-destruct. They are like a pack of wolves. They are very dangerous when they are out hunting together, but the moment you take out their leader, they would scatter. This has been the case for most of the religious cults in the muggle world and in the magical world also there have been a few such cults, like the 'Merlin's Hand'. Not much is known about it but it was something that existed at the times of the four founders and they had put an end to it after a lot of struggle.

The second kind is the more fearful one. They are more rational and pragmatic in their approach. They would gather around each other due to some idealistic philosophy. And then among these few, a leader would emerge. He is usually the most powerful and the most intelligent one.

He is able to control the group more easily and they would accomplish many great things, although not so great from an ethical perspective, but still great from just an observer's point of view.

They are united by their idea and their existence is more like a Hydra rather than a pack of wolves.

If you cut off one head, two more would take its place. This group would not be deterred by the death of their leader. Yes, it would slow things down for them a little but they would eventually find a way to get back into the limelight. All secret societies in the muggle world show this character and in the magical world, the group led by Voldemort was the greatest example. In fact, the death eaters were a combination of the first and second type. They had a leader who was practically a god-like existence and they followed him almost blindly. Although some of them might have felt repulsive about the methods employed by the group later, they still couldn't leave as they were all 'marked'. Thus, other than turning traitor, they had no other choice but to follow their leader.

In case of the death eaters, their idea was the pure-blood theory which was propagated by Salazar Slytherin himself in his later years. The reason for his pursuit for pure-blooded wizards isn't known but the death eaters took this as their guiding principle. They felt if the founder of Hogwarts himself wanted this, then there should be some reason behind it.

Although most of the pure-blood families that joined this league did so out of their greed. They wanted to maintain their supremacy in the magical world, which was slowly but surely being challenged by the muggle-born wizards.

So they joined the death eaters and revolted against such wizards.

This led to the 'First Wizard War' and the result of it was the death of many wizards along with Harry's parents and Harry surviving the killing curse which gave an opportunity for Danny's soul to enter his body and assimilate himself with Harry's soul.

After reading all this, Danny fell into deep contemplation. He knew that the Order of the Phoenix, which fought against the Death Eaters, still existed and was waiting for him to emerge as the beacon of hope in the next war that will begin with Voldemort's resurrection.

The world thought that Voldemort was dead but a few people knew that he wasn't and that he would come back someday. This was inevitable as it has been prophesied by Professor Trelawney.

So, after realizing this, Danny could feel an invisible pressure fall on his shoulders. He has been taking things a little too lightly until now.

There were two years left until Voldemort makes his appearance again using Quirinus Quirrell, the professor of 'Defense Against the Dark Arts' at Hogwarts in Harry's first year.

Which means he only had two years to prepare and then he would be facing one of the most powerful dark wizards to have ever lived.

Maybe, subconsciously he has been avoiding thinking about this but he could no longer ignore what was right before him.

He might have been Danny in his previous life. But that life has already ended and now in this life, he was Harry Potter, son of James and Lily Potter. He was the boy who lived and is the future hope of countless wizards who would be facing the dark lord's wrath again.

And this time, it would not be like the original story. His existence in this world would cause ripple effects that would disrupt the original timeline completely. He is no longer the same Harry Potter of the story and from now onwards everything that he does would be different from the original.

He was fundamentally different from Harry Potter and his actions would also be a lot different as compared to how Harry would have acted if Danny had not hijacked his body. This would lead to completely different results and slowly there would be no way to predict what was about to happen in the future.

As a result, he would lose the biggest trump card he had, his knowledge of the original timeline.

Although he could try to do what Harry had done in the story, he knew that would be impossible. No one could change themselves to that extent and his innate nature was more cautious and he was also more intellectually sound compared to the original Harry.

Thus, he needs to accept the reality and decide what he wants to do next.

It took two days for him to organize his thoughts and his raging emotions to calm down.

The first thing he needs to decide was his identity. Was he going to remain Daniel Wolf, or was he going to accept the role that has been dumped on him?

Being Danny would make things a bit easier, as he could disassociate himself from the events around him. He could move away from the original path completely and then try to change things from a different angle.

But he knew that the things that made his life difficult also gave his life meaning. And fate was a very mysterious thing. It had a tendency to force things to follow the set path. Any deviations would eventually lead to the same result. Thus there would be no point in going off-track.

So after all this contemplation, he eventually decided to embrace the identity he now represented and from now on he would no longer be Daniel Wolf. From today onwards, he would be the 'boy who lived'. He would be Harry Potter.

He would pick up the story and take it forward as it should be but in his own style. He had his own ambitions and ideas about the future.

He would try to keep the story overall on track. He knew that he was bound to become stronger than the Harry in the story, a lot stronger.

So, he would strive to grasp his powers completely and as he continues to get stronger, the restrictions he felt on him would loosen up. Thus when he was strong enough and had enough confidence to face any storm, he would take the world and turn it upside down. After all, as someone who has reincarnated, it was only natural for him to have some fun!
