Chapter 5: Wand

Chapter 5: Wand

"Is that everything?" Alicia asked.

"Yeah, pretty much. We've already bought the textbooks and such. I only need to go to Ollivanders to get my wand," I said amidst the chaotic and crowded streets of Diagon Alley.

"Hm, alright. Since you're already so reliable to take care of yourself, you can go alone. Just… don't explore too much afterwards, okay? I've got an acquaintance I need to meet, so make sure not to be late," Alicia said with a small smile as she gave me a hug.

I just nodded to express my agreement.

She smiled and left soon after.

"Huu… well, time to go get the legendary wand that's probably made two generations before mine," I chuckled inwardly.

"Quests," I called out to the system while walking.

'I've already bought a shit ton of herbs since I will be experimenting with potions a lot. Does that count?' I mused in contemplation.

'Meh, can't do much about it; being poor is the original sin.'

As I walked past a few people, I arrived in front of the wand shop.

The shop looked very old with circular glass panes on each side and a black door in the middle. Although it looked old, it kind of gave off a mysterious vibe.

Opening the door to the shop, I noticed Olivander already talking to someone.

As the door closed behind me, both of them turned to look at me, as I looked at them.

Olivander's appearance looked almost identical to the one in the movies: a gaunt old man with pale silvery eyes, grayish-white hair, and white skin.

'He's also insane about wands,' I thought absentmindedly.

I turned my gaze to the other person in the room, a boy, presumably another first-year student.

He had black unruly hair, green vibrant eyes that looked like the killing curse, and a pair of round glasses…

I stared at him in a daze before realizing that the name and the appearance matched.

"Are you… Harry Potter?" I asked uncertainly.

He looked quite startled at the question but regained his composure in a second.

"Not exactly. You got my name right, but my surname is Evans, not Potter. You might have mistaken me for someone else, though on another thought, how'd you know my name?" He said in a calm voice that carried an air of indifference that certainly didn't suit his age.

I had also noticed his expression falter when he heard the word 'Potter'.

'Evans… that was Lily Potter's original muggle surname; perhaps this situation is a bit more complicated than I thought.'

"Well, sorry about that," I said, trying to shake off my momentary confusion.

"I've heard rumors that the Potters have a son, and they're mostly known for their unruly hair," I lied through my teeth. "Although you didn't introduce yourself personally, I overheard your conversation with Olivander here when I entered through the door," I said with a sheepish smile while scratching my neck.

Harry looked at me inquisitively for a moment before nodding with a 'hm' and left the wand shop with his wand holstered to his holster underneath his right arm.

"Sigh..." I let out an exasperated sigh before turning to Olivander.

"I think we know each other well beyond the point of your bullshit," I said flatly with a hint of amusement.

He looked at me contemplatively for a moment before a small smile tugged at his lips.

"It's an Olivander tradition. Where's the fun in only selling the wand without making the wizard feel special?" he said before sighing.

"However, I'll have you know it's a great way to make little wizards who have less self-confidence or certain insecurities feel acknowledged."

I raised an eyebrow at that. "So that's why you never do it to those purebloods and arrogant folk; you don't want to lick their egos since it's already so high up in the clouds?" I looked at Olivander in amazement.

He only smirked at that.

"Right hand, I presume?" Olivander asked excitedly.

I nodded.

"Alright, let me take your measures."

He flicked his wand, and a small tape measure flew in from the counter. It then started measuring me in several ridiculous places like the distance of my nostrils from my eye to ear, etc.

Obviously, I know what this little shit was doing.

'Its measuring my magical signature so it can add a trace to the wand. Tch.'

Olivander only smiled knowingly at me.

He walked towards the left shelf, climbing the small ladder as he skimmed the several ornate boxes until he settled for a brownish-red box.

He placed the box on the counter, opened it, and looked at me with eager eyes before he started explaining.

"Walnut wood with a dragon heartstring core. Walnut wands embody intuition and resilience, and the dragon heartstring core provides the wand with power and the ability to harness intense magical energies. A combination often chosen by those destined for great deeds."

I looked at him for a moment, before turning my gaze to the wand in the box and picked it up.

I examined it for a moment before being interrupted by Olivander.

"Come on, don't just look at it, give it a swing!" He said excitedly like a child in a candy store.

I shook my head at his antics before giving the wand a vertical swipe.

As I did so, the boxes that were just on the shelves moments ago flew off at incredible speeds, falling everywhere and making a few pieces of paper scatter everywhere.

"No, no, definitely not that one," he hurriedly said as he took the wand back and put it in the box again.

He went back towards the left shelf before quickly choosing another box, this time it was black and gold.

Placing the box on the counter once again, he opened it and turned it towards my direction.

"Spruce wood with a mermaid scale core," Ollivander's voice echoed softly in the dimly lit shop. "Spruce wands, my dear Klein, are shrouded in mystery and magic. Known for their resilience and adaptability, they often choose those who possess an insatiable curiosity for the unknown."

He carefully retrieved the wand from its black and golden box, the wood gleaming softly in the faint light. "Mermaid scale cores, on the other hand, bring a sense of fluidity and grace to the wand's magic. They are exceedingly rare, sourced from the depths of the ocean where mermaids usually roam, their magic carrying the mysteries of the sea."

As he handed the wand over, and I picked it up, it seemed to shimmer with an ethereal glow, the mermaid scale embedded within the wood catching the light in mesmerizing golden patterns.

"A wand such as this," Ollivander continued, his eyes gleaming with a hint of… Madness? Yeah, probably madness, "is chosen by those who are drawn to the depths of magic, those who seek to unravel the secrets of the world and embrace the mysteries that lie beyond."

I held the wand, looking at it for a moment before waving it in a horizontal line, causing golden sparks to sputter out of it.

I smiled, enjoying the feeling of finally having my own wand. "From this day forth, you shall be known as Sol, which literally means sun since I suck at naming things," I declared flatly.

The wand, as if seeming to understand my words, hummed slowly, causing small golden sparks to come forth.

I paid for the wand and headed towards the door before Olivander looked at me with a smile and said, "May this wand serve you well on your journey, wherever it may lead."

I just nodded and left the wand shop.

'Though i'm quite disappointed for not getting the world tree wand with 3 wand cores' I laughed inwardly.
