Chapter 1: System Functions

Chapter 1: System Fucntions

It's been a few days since I arrived in the world of Harry Potter, and I've learned a couple of things.

For one, I live with my mother, Alicia Salvatore, within the borders of Knockturn Alley. Yep, you heard that right. Knockturn Alley, the shady cousin of Diagon Alley where shit happens all the time, mostly fights and werewolf attacks though but nonetheless the same shady stuff.

It's not exactly the ideal neighborhood for a ten-year-old kid, but I guess when you're thrown into a parallel universe, you can't be picky about your living arrangements.

Two, I've grasped some of the system's functions, one of them being the mission function which activates depending on the situation, for example, the one I'm currently doing:

I had already visited a couple of shops, exchanging greetings with the shop owners and engaging in small talk. Mostly, I asked about their professions and such, but most of them didn't take me seriously. However, Olivander seemed quite engaged in the conversation, probably because he's the only one who's so insane about wands.

Leaving Olivanders Shop, I made my way towards The Leaky Cauldron where I had promised my mom to meet.

I walked through the bustling streets filled with people of all ages, each clad in their own unique wizarding attire.

Wizards of old and young strolled past me, their robes swishing with each step, while vendors manned stalls selling everything from enchanted trinkets to weird shady potions. The air was alive with the sound of chatter and laughter, the unmistakable energy of Diagon Alley pulsing through every fiber of my being.

I smiled, something I hadn't done for a long time

I guess because I knew everything I was seeing was real.

Magic.

Something so surreal and supernatural.

I swore to myself that I would reach the pinnacle of magic, I would go higher than the likes of Dumbledore or Merlin had ever done.

So that I wouldn't have any regrets like before.

I strode past the crowd arriving in front of The Leaky Cauldron, its quaint exterior inviting and warm despite the chilly breeze. Pushing the door open, I stepped inside, greeted by the cozy ambiance of the pub. The aroma of butterbeer and hearty stews filled the air, mingling with the soft murmur of conversations.

Scanning the room, I spotted my mother Alicia sitting at a corner table, her dark hair catching the flickering light of the lanterns. She looked up as I approached, a warm smile spreading across her face.

"Klein, dear, you're here," she said, motioning for me to take a seat opposite her. "How was your exploration of Diagon Alley?"

I slid into the chair, nodding. "It was incredible, Mom," I replied, excitement bubbling within me.

Since the day I transmigrated, I had absorbed most of the fragmented memories and feelings of other Klein, no it's more like the two of us merged into one being.

"I visited all the shops on the list, and I got to chat with Olivander for a while"

Alicia's eyes widened in surprise. "Ollivander? Well, that old fool probably talked more about his wands than with you I bet" she remarked, clearly amused. "Did you find anything interesting?"

I shrugged nonchalantly. "A lot of things honestly, mostly books," I said with a small smile.

Alicia reached across the table, squeezing my hand gently. "Don't worry, Klein. You have plenty of time to study," she said reassuringly. "Now, let's order some lunch, shall we?"

As we waited for our food to arrive, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude wash over me.

Despite the chaotic situation I had found myself in, I was grateful to have Alicia as my mother, while I would probably be older than her in terms of age if you combined my current age and previous age, I didn't care.

I had never felt familial love when I was young, my father was a drunk, and my mother was used to doing her own things, either buying luxurious things or such.

I had to learn to rely on myself early on.

So all this familial love was nice and all, but I still couldn't help but feel as if I had killed the original Klein, although we had merged it feels like sometimes I've replaced him.

'Enough of that I need to focus on the task ahead' I mentally thought to myself.

"System," I murmured, my voice barely above a whisper, but the response was immediate.

The black holographic screen appeared, displaying my completed subquest and the upcoming reward, a surge of satisfaction washed over me. It was a small accomplishment, but it was still my first quest nonetheless.

[Subquest: Explore Diagon Alley - Completed!]

[Unlocking Map Function]

The words flashed before me, signaling the completion of my task. I couldn't help but smirk.

Calling the map function in my mind, it materialized in the lower left corner of my view like those HUD maps you see in video games.

It showed several dots, around me most of them white, Alicia seemed to be green with a name under her dot.

'Hm, maybe this might work?.'

I decided to do a small experiment.

Getting up from the chair I walked towards the bartender who I had forgotten the name of but I think it was Tom or something, honestly, I don't expect myself to remember every character's name.

"Excuse me" I called out to the bartender, who turned to face me with a friendly smile. "I've always seen you talk to Mom but I've never taken the initiative to ask your name," I said with a slight smile tugging my lips.

The bartender's smile widened at my question, and he leaned casually against the bar, wiping a glass with a cloth. "Ah, don't you worry, lad. Names aren't always the most important thing, but since you've asked so nicely, My name is Tom Abbott" he replied, his voice warm and genial.

"Well It's nice to formally meet you, Tom, My name Is Klein Salvatore."

Tom Abbott nodded, his friendly demeanor unchanged. "Pleasure to meet you, Klein," he said with an amused smile.

I engaged in small talk with Tom, mostly about the leaky cauldron and its history which he was happy to oblige with. Since I mean knowledge = power, plus I was quite curious myself.

After talking with Tom for a while I looked at the map function.

it still displayed Tom as white dot however this time there was a name displayed underneath it

'Tom Abbot'

I smiled, it seemed like my experiment was successful, but It would require further testing to know how exactly it functions.

When I was about to head back to Alicia I heard a gruff and loud voice, shouting at Alicia

The gruff voice caught my attention immediately, and I turned to see a burly man with a scowl on his face, his voice booming through the pub as he berated Alicia.

"Salvatore, where's my payment? You know the terms of our agreement, and you're overdue!" he barked, his fists clenched at his sides.

Alicia remained composed, though a flicker of apprehension flashed in her eyes. "I told you, Burke, I'll have your payment by the end of the week," she replied evenly, her voice steady despite the tension in the air.

Burkes snorted derisively. "End of the week? I've heard that before, Salvatore. You're testing my patience, and I don't like being kept waiting," he growled, his gaze narrowing menacingly.

I watched the exchange with growing concern, my instincts telling me that this Burke character was trouble. Despite the situation, Alicia maintained her composure, her resolve unwavering in the face of adversity.

Taking a deep breath, I stepped forward, interposing myself between Alicia and Burke. "Is there a problem here?" I asked, my voice firm as I met Burke's hostile gaze head-on.

Burke's expression darkened further as he glared down at me, his eyes narrowing in disdain. "And who might you be, kid? Can't you see the adults are talking?" he sneered, his tone dripping with contempt.

I held my ground, refusing to back down in the face of Burke's intimidation tactics. "I'm Klein Salvatore, and Alicia is my mother. So yeah, I guess you could say I have a vested interest in this," I replied coolly, my voice tinged with a hint of defiance.

Burke's sneer faltered for a moment, surprise flickering in his eyes before his expression hardened once more. "Fine, Salvatore. But mark my words, I won't be kept waiting much longer. You'd do well to remember that," he spat, shooting a final glare in Alicia's direction before storming out of the pub.

As the tension dissipated, I turned to Alicia, concern etched into my features. "Are you okay, Mom?" I asked, my voice soft with worry.

Alicia offered me a reassuring smile, though I could see the strain behind it. "I'm fine, Klein. Just another minor inconvenience," she replied, her tone light despite the this shitty situation.

I nodded, though I knew where this was going, he was either going to be cool about it, which I doubt or he would do something that disturbed us, probably attempted kidnapping the cliches and all that.

So we sat there and ate in silence, before paying Tom and walking out of The Leaky Cauldron.

'Tasty food for a cheap price' I thought with a smile, a win-win for both sides.

Chapter end.
