10 Slytherin's Locket

{27th June 1993}

{12 Grimmauld Place, London, Unplottable}

{10:42 PM}

Sirius and I left the room as Marlene stayed behind to tuck Alex in, once again I levitated the locket in front of me as we made our way to the kitchen on the ground floor.

*Clatter*

I put my wand on the table and walked towards the bar that was set up at the corner.

"What's your poison?" I asked Sirius as I grabbed a bottle of Dragon Barrel Brandy and poured a generous amount into a glass.

'Do I prefer brandy or did Blaise did?'

"Firewiskey..." he replied as he started using various detection charms on the locket.

"Oh, that's quite a collection..." I grabbed a bottle of Ogden's Old Firewhiskey dated back to 1654.

I took a sip from my glass as I poured one out for Sirius before putting the bottles back.

*Bang*

"What the fuck is this thing, it's almost like it has an unbreakable charm on it but it doesn't-" I looked back to see a black mark surrounding the locket but the locket was unharmed.

"Woah, Woah calm down there is only one kind of fire that can harm that locket and I seriously doubt you can control it without burning the house down along with your wife and daughter-" I slid the glass along the table and sat down on the table as Marlene also came down.

"Blaise you are gonna tell me right now what the fuck is wrong with that locket," she said aloud as she stood in front of me.

"Alright, Lady Black-" I started but she interrupted me, "Marlene-" she gave me an annoyed look, "- I know we have only met in public events till now mostly and being addressed as Lady Black is okay according to customs but please call me Marlene."

"Alright, Marlene, why don't you sit down-" I indicated to the seat beside me, "- I'm gonna reveal some of my personal secrets, and research into illegal magic to you for what I am about to tell you to make sense, so I would appreciate it if you would keep this between us." I looked from her to Sirius.

"We could swear a magical vow?" Marlene suggested, but I shook my head.

"No, magical oaths are full of loopholes and sometimes they can be harmful, like if you needed the information that I gave you tonight and you couldn't tell someone else in a time of need then it could be dangerous." I took another look at both of them as I took another sip, the brandy's taste now seemed quite sweet and a little fruity now that I was actually paying attention.

"I would rather trust you to not mention where you got the information from and that you would keep my secrets..." I let my words hang for the moment.

"We promise no one ever know what you tell us today," Sirius said looking towards Marlene who nodded solemnly.

"Good, that's good," I sighed.

'Alright, I was a little overdramatic but knowing Sirius as he already gave me his word he won't talk about it but I don't know anything about Marlene except that the Mckinnon's were the members of the order of the phoenix'

"How much do you know about Divination?" I asked cautiously. I looked from Sirius's gobsmacked expression to Marlene's contemplating one waiting for one of them to speak.

"You mean all the, seeing one's future in a teacup and using your inner eye to look into the future?" Sirius asked sarcastically.

"To be honest we both never took a class on divination in Hogwarts so we both don't know anything about it-" Marlene answered more conservatively when I felt another person walk into the room.

"Hogwart's Divination class is bullshit, I did some research and there are actual courses in several schools that actually make sense, I did learn some of the actual stuff when I was 'there' too-" Lily said as she came into the room and frowned at seeing the glass in my hand.

'wait why is she here...'

"Why?" I looked from Lily to Sirius who had a similar confused expression.

"I sent her a Patronus when you two came down, I'm sorry but you know you can trust Lily, plus she worked in the Department of Mysteries for almost half a decade so I thought she would know about it." I looked back to Lily who was looking around confused.

"Why don't you try a Homenum Revelio at the locket?" I suggested.

'Maybe she would help me figure out a way to explain so that I won't be caught in a lie so easily.'

I watched Lily do charms after charms and soon the detection charms became more and more complex, none of this stuff was actually shown in the book and I was slowly realizing that the magical world is a lot more vast than I thought.

'As it should be, there should be magic in China and other Asian countries too, the books barely covered England with a superficial note to the rest of Europe. It was mentioned that Vorlemort traveled all over the world in search of new magic and that's why he was absent for many years, so the world must be vast.'

"A Horcrux?" Lily looked horrified at the locket as she took a few steps back.

"So the Department has books about them?" I asked.

"Ye-," She answered back dazily before she choked as a pained expression overcame her.

"Lily-" I shouted as I walked towards her but she held up her hand and sat down on a chair.

"Oaths-" she replied, and then she closed her eyes and took several deep breaths to calm herself down.

"Alright so I'll talk and you just listen okay," I said and she nodded again.

I looked at the anxious expression on Sirius and Marlene's faces as they figured out this was a lot bigger than they thought.

"First let's get this out of the way, never speak of that word in front of anyone, Horcrux, the word for a simple term describes an object-" I pointed towards the Locket, "-which is made into a vessel, to harbor a piece of someone's soul." They looked equally confused but a part disturbed not fully understanding the implications but Lily's face was grave as she was staring at the locket.

"Sirius knows a bit about the soul as Dumbledore explained today-" Marlene shot Sirius a confused look so I explained, "-a soul is one's piece of Identity, it's who you are, and also is the origin of someone's magic, the Killing curse-" Sirius's attention shifted immediately, "-does a very simple job of severing the link between one's physical body and the soul. But even an unforgivable could never harm a soul, so you should see how difficult it is to cut a piece of your own soul out and place it into an object."

"You mean someone willingly cut a part of himself out so he could place it into an object. Why? Why would you do that?" Marlene asked.

"It's simple, Partial immortality-" I explained as Sirius gasped and looked incredulous.

"Immortality? Like the Flamel's?" Sirius asked.

"Stop being an idiot Siri, how could you compare this abomination to the pinnacle of alchemy," Lily cut him out as I nodded.

"Alchemy, another branch of magic that has vanished from Hogwarts." I sighed and continued, "Anyway, By making a Horcrux-" I pointed towards the locket, "One can tether your soul to the mortal world, so even if you die, your soul would not pass on and you could use other means to come back to life, like rituals or possession, or alchemy..." I finished.

"Possession-" Marlene whispered, "Is that what this thing was doing to Alex?" she whispered furiously glaring at the locket.

"Wait Alex? Alex had the locket?" Lily asked concerned as she put an arm around Marlene.

"Yes, but she's fine I checked-" I put my hand up in a placating gesture, "-the locket was just draining her magic constantly and putting negative thoughts in her mind, trying to steer her towards Dark magic that would have just jumbled her emotions more, allowing it to slowly take possession of her body for small bursts of time but it would have taken it months to reach that level."

"How do we destroy it, the killing curse can separate a soul from the vessel right?" Sirius asked glaring at the locket and pulling up his wand, Lily looked like she wanted to say something but stopped and looked towards me imploringly.

"Sit down Sirius," I walked towards him and handed him his glass of Firewhisky which he downed instantly.

"Calm down, no the killing curse won't work, as you know the killing curse can kill anyone or any creature because it was developed to put down old magical creatures painlessly-" I said as he deflated, "for it to work I would have to decode it's arithmancy equations and then modify the spell to work on objects, and before you could say anything-" I stopped noticing his anxious look, "-I can't do it because Arithmancy eludes me, I tried hard last year but the magic behind creating a spell or modifying higher-level spell is beyond me, especially a spell that is as complex as it deals with soul magic."

Everyone sat down and calmly processed everything before Marlene stepped up and went towards the bar and bought out the bottle of Firewhiskey along with two glasses and started pouring it down.

"How do you know all this Blaise? Why do you know all this Blaise?" Marlene asked, her face blank.

"Because I found another Horcrux in Hogwarts!" I said as everyone's neck snapped towards me.

'Alright at least they believe me, now don't know if I should involve Dumbledore or not, there are so many fanfictions in my head with him getting bashed that I'm confused if the original Dumbledore was good or a secret Dark Lord.'

"You found a Horcrux in Hogwarts?" Lily asked aghast.

"Yes, it was hidden in a secret room I found last year," I replied.

"Okay, I'm gonna faint..." Lily muttered, "What the fuck is Dumbledore allowing students to allow into the school, and who even brings let alone knows how to make a Horcrux, right, how did you even know that it was a Horcrux?" Lily asked

"I didn't... I mean not until now, I suspected it was one that was why I was going to learn the Homenum Revelio charm to confirm my thoughts, so I researched it."

"But how did you know about the locket-" Marlene asked confused, "-You couldn't have figured that out just by looking at changes in Ares, hell I thought she was rebelling cause she was growing up... you mentioned divination... what did you see? What happened to Ares in your vision?" she asked looking afraid to hear my answer.

"Divination doesn't work like that, you don't look into a cup of tea and see the future, divination is a rare magical branch that is very temperamental, there are very few controlled uses of Divination and you have to have an aptitude for the subject..." I said and Lily nodded.

'Alright now time for some bullshit and drama to sell the story... I don't think they suspect anything anyway-'

"Anyway, I have these flashes of visions sometimes and I can see these pictures sometimes, that's how I found Harry and Daphne on the tower, I didn't believe it at first but-" I bit my lip and shook my lips noticing that they have put their guard down, "-forget it, so when Sirius was telling me about it I had another vision where I saw Kreacher with the locket which was very familiar to me, you see-" I picked up my wand and waved it towards the locket and it slowly levitated in front of all of us.

"Does anyone recognize this locket?" I asked.

"No"

"Never seen it"

And a shake of head from Marlene rounded out the three negative responses so I twisted my wand as the locket turned around and they could focus on the 'S'.

"This shows how bad the legacy of Slytherin is tarnished, this is the Locket of Slytherin," ignoring their widening eyes I focused my attention on the locket and continued, "... it was famous for being the only magical object created by Slytherin that could allow its wearer to be able to use the noble tongue, and use Parselmagic."

I wanted to know if it actually was true but all my observe was telling me was that it was a Horcrux and nothing about the original purpose of the locket.

"Yeah, yeah don't give me that look," they were weirded out by the way I spoke about Parselmagic.

"It's a very exclusive branch of magic only available to heirs of Slytherin, being a Slytherin it's a torture for me to see this artifact and see what it has become." I sighed and continued, "Anyway, I am saying this because I suspected that the locket was a Horcrux because the other artifact was also of similar stature..." I looked at the locket again and said, "Rowena Ravenclaw's Diadem"
