7 7 - Hogwarts Express and Sorting

After introducing ourselves neither of us struck up conversation.

I'm guessing she's not the conversationalist type, not that I'm complaining, I mean look at me.

It was an hour in when Myra suddenly stood up, due to the fact neither of us did anything in the past hour I looked at her.

"I'm going to the restroom" I nodded briskly before turning back to my book.

After leaving she thought to herself, "why did I feel the need to explain myself?"

Once she came back the compartment fell into it's usual silence with the occasional flip of a page being heard.

I don't actually need to read, if I really wanted to I could just flip through each page then review it in my mindscape allowing me to memorise it all in minutes but it's a good distraction to pass the time.

After 3 hours in silence which was an oddly comfortable silence instead of an awkward silence where nobody knows what to say, the compartment door opened revealing an elderly witch pushing a cart full of goodies.

"Anything off the trolley dears?"

Myra looked up at the elderly witch and said "I'll have two chocolate frogs and a liquorice wand please."

After giving Myra her order and Myra paying the few sickles and knuts the elderly witch turned to Leo, "What about you, what would you like?"

"Uh.. I'll have a bit of everything I suppose"

Myra just stared at him with her emotionless gaze.

He didn't know what she was thinking but he felt like she was judging him. "..What? I'm not sure which ones I like yet and i'm hungry."

She just looked away and took a bite out of her liquorice wand.

After 5 hours of no talking it was surprisingly Myra who broke the silence.

"Are you muggle raised?" she asked with her usual impassive gaze.

"Yep"

"But you're an Ignis"

"I am"

She just stared at him again.. "Ignis is a pure blood family." she said slowly

"I do believe I knew that"

She remained silent for a while before simply saying in a half statement, half question tone, "orphan"

His intelligent response was "mhm"

And so a comfortable silence reigned the compartment again.

2 hours later and they finally reach hogsmeade station.

Myra gracefully moved up from her seat with grace that could only be accomplished with practice while Leo got up from his lying down position and stretched in a.. slightly less graceful fashion before both new students left the compartment and left the train.

'Firs' years, Firs' years, over here over here come on now' said a man with a mane of black hair who could only be described as giant.

'I've gotta admit the movies really didn't do him justice he is a lot taller than I thought he would be.'

After walking down through a muddy path which Myra looked at with almost obvious distaste.. well as obvious as the emotionless face could show, they got a bunch of boats where the giant of a man shouted 'no more th'n four to a boat, four to a boat come on'.

Leo stepped into a boat followed by Myra, a brown haired, brown eyed girl who looked nervous and a dirty blonde, light brown eyed boy who looked slightly excited.

The boats slowly glided through the lake where they saw a few tentacles moving out of the water in the distance which only proved to increase the nerves of the 11 year old students. Myra's emotionless face was proved different from her body posture where her knuckles were white from holding the boat so tight while Leo just looked on with a bored expression.

Leo briefly entertained the idea of shaking the boat and scaring Myra but something told him that she was the type to hold a grudge.

After a few more minutes, Hogwarts finally came into view and every student, Leo and Myra included had a look of awe on their face.

'The movies really don't do it justice, it's as if my magic is excited just looking at it and it just can't be shown properly through a movie.'

Reaching the other side of the lake and climbing out of the boats, after Hargid knocked on the door thrice, the large entrance doors opened revealing a stern looking woman wearing emerald green robes.

I waved at her and she gave a small nod of acknowledgement in return before turning to the rest of the students, "follow me" she said eventually leading them to an empty chamber with distant voices coming from the Great Hall.

Turning back towards the students she said,

The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory, and spend free time in your house common room.

"The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your house points, while any rule breaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup, a great honour. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever house becomes yours.

I inwardly scoffed when she said our houses will be like our family, That's been proven wrong pretty much every year Harry Potter was here, not to mention, house points are useless, it's not like your employer will check how many points you lost and gained at Hogwarts before hiring you is it?

Anyway, we were finally lead into the Great Hall and unsurprisingly, the movie didn't do it justice, it's better in every way, it's bigger, grander and the ceiling makes the movie look like a cheap magicians imitation.

The Sorting Hat opened its mouth did the whole

Oh, you may not think I'm pretty,

But don't judge on what you see,

I'll eat myself if you can find

A smarter hat than me.

You can keep your bowlers black,

Your top hats sleek and tall,

For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat

And I can cap them all.

There's nothing hidden in your head

The Sorting Hat can't see,

So try me on and I will tell you

Where you ought to be.

You might belong in Gryffindor,

Where dwell the brave at heart,

Their daring, nerve and chivalry

Set Gryffindors apart;

You might belong in Hufflepuff,

Where they are just and loyal,

Those patient Hufflepuffs are true

And unafraid of toil;

Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,

If you've a ready mind,

Where those of wit and learning,

Will always find their kind;

Or perhaps in Slytherin

You'll make your real friends,

Those cunning folk use any means

To achieve their ends.

So put me on! Don't be afraid!

And don't get in a flap!

You're in safe hands (though I have none)

For I'm a Thinking Cap!

Well, it probably did, I was too busy looking around.

Finally our names were slowly called and only a few really stood out because I didn't remember them from canon.

'Myra Greengrass'

The hat was put on her head and after around 30 seconds finally shouted out "SLYTHERIN!"

'Ryan Goldstein'

'Huh, Goldstein? Isn't that one of the 3 wizards with a magic core in its 2nd transformation?

After only a few seconds of being on his head it called out 'RAVENCLAW!"

Martha Dibble

She was the nervous looking girl in our boat.. "HUFFLEPUFF!"

Luke Shacklebolt

Hmm, as in the auror shacklebolt?

The boy in question had dark brown skin and was tall for his age

'Apparently so' "GRYFFINDOR!"

And finally, the one, the only,

"Leo Ignis"

There were a few whispers when my name came out

'Like I thought, my name is pretty famous, hmm I wonder how I can exploit this'

I strode confidently towards the stool and slowly put the Hat on my head.

'Aha!'

I couldn't help but flinch internally,

'What have we got here? A strong thirst for knowledge, not particularly brave and while willing to be loyal, have nobody to be loyal to. Plenty of cunning, willing to use most things to your advantage and always has a plan before stepping into a situation, you'd be a great slytherin.

I mentally thought 'Ravenclaw please'

'Oh? But Slytherin could lead you to greatness, no doubt about that.'

'Ravenclaw is the most useful to me so that is where i'll go.'

The hat chuckled 'How Slytherin of you'

It then sighed, 'Very well, RAVENCLAW!"
