I'm going to become an adventurer!

Drole was the barkeep and owner of The Crooked Tap. A small tavern in the town of withersdale. His days were mostly passed with a regulars shuffling in and telling stories of the kingdom. There was two exceptions: When travellers passed by whether it be adventures, traders, or minstrels. Or when Sinbad stole enough coin to come buy some more drink.

Sinbad was far from being a bad person, he just had a way of causing a commotion wherever he went. To Drole, Sinbad was an constant pain, but through the years had come to grow fond of him. Much like a how a Shepard would be fond of his sheep. He had his use, but if he took eyes off of him for 2 seconds, his stupid sheep would be causing trouble again. One of the only reasons Sinbad was still served was because he helped throw especially rowdy customers out from time to time. Today however, took a very different turn.

"Drole!" The barkeep's head whipped up from his absent minded cleaning of a cup as he saw Sinbad stride in. "Today is the last day you'll see me!" he said confidentiality while marching towards the counter.

"Sorry, what?" Drole said, unsure if the good news he had just gotten was indeed true.

"I SAID, I'm leaving. From now on, I'm going to go become an adventurer!"

"Are you serious?" chuckled Drole "You, and adventurer? haha, that joke will keep me smilin til next week!"

Sinbad's face turned unusually serious as he slid something under his palm across the counter. "I'm not joking."

"oh..." recoiled Drole as he inspected the outstretched hand. "Well I suppose this is goodbye then."

Sinbad quickly turned on his heels, as he left a slightly flustered old man staring blankly at the key that was left behind. "Keep it, I don't need my old place anymore." Before Drole could say anything back, the door to the tavern swung shut, leaving behind the tavernkeep, and his old life.

As Sinbad exited the door to the outside, everything seemed to have a new aura to it. It was a clear bright morning with the crisp scent of morning dew still lingering in the Spring air. With a quick step of his feet, he was off! The destination was the north end of town, where the only 2 story building lay: The Adventurers Hall.

It did not take long for him to weave his way through various merchants, livestock and kids before reaching the goal. Before him lay the doors to his new life. A life full of adventures, danger, rewards, money and everything that came with fame. There was no hesitation as he lay his hands on the handle and swung it wide.

Although Sinbad knew about the guild, this was the first time that he had ever stepped foot into it's building. The inside was brightly lit by the many windows lining the walls, as well as a few chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, although since it was day, none were lit. 2 pillars rose from the center of the room to support the upper floor, that was presumably past a door on the far wall. Scattered around the room was various tables and chairs, mostly vacant but with a few individuals talking amongst themselves in a corner table. Along the wall stood a board with various pieces of paper stuck to it, but before he could take a closer look, a friendly voice called out.

"Hello there, are you new here?" A woman in a simple yellow dress called from behind a counter along the back wall. "Please, come right this way."

Sinbad quickly walked over to the counter and said confidently "I wish to become an adventurer!"

"Alright mister, that would be 10 silver to join."

"Why so much?" groaned Sinbad as he reached into his pockets. Although he saved up a decent amount of cash before deciding to start his new life, he did not expect his wallet to take a blow right from the start.

As soon as he handed the lady behind the counter the ten coins, she immediately reached under her counter and brought up a mystical looking device. it had a metal base with a rectangular slot on the bottom. There was a needle hanging slightly above the groove, and above that, a sphere of various pulsing colors, surrounded by a ring of gold with magical scribbles inscribed.

"Please place your hand on the orb and wait until I tell you to remove it" said the woman.

As Sinbad reached out his hand, he could feel a sort of vibrating energy emminating from the stone, but as he touched it, it was as smooth as a well oiled blade and as still as a rock. After a moment he saw some movement, the ring started to spin, and the needle was frantically moving up, down, left and right until...

*ding*

"You may remove your hand now" said the woman as she picked up the object in the slot of the base and handed it to him. "This is your adventurer's card, please take good care of it, as it identifies you as a certified member of the guild. If you lose it, you will have to pay another 10 silver to get it replaced."

"Congratulations, you may now look at the board to take jobs that look desirable to you." The counter lady explained, "Furthermore, if you would like, you can join a party with other adventurers and take on jobs together. You may not get the entire reward to yourself, but it would enable you to take higher paying jobs, which would boost your rank in the guild faster."

After thinking it over for a bit, Sinbad replied "I think I'll try joining a party, if I don't like it, I can always leave after we finish our mission anyway."

"In that case, if you would like you can sit at one of our free tables." explained the woman, "There's a adventurer who's recently been asking to join a party, but all others haven't wanted to increase their party sizes to accommodate him. Usually he comes in around noon if you would like to wait."

And with that, Sinbad sat down and expectantly watched the door as he waited for the one who he was going to share his first adventure with.
