1 Facing Hardship

"Hurry!,the boat is about to leave!"Musyoka shouted.

"I'll be there in just a few minutes!"I hurriedly put on my sandals and rushed towards the lake.Trully, luck was not on my side.By the time I was arriving the boat had already left.I tried to wave at my friends so that they could come back for me but they were long gone.

This meant I had to wait for the next boat, making me late for school by two hours.l hoped that the teacher on duty Mr Karimi wouldn't be around.Without any doubt I dreaded him.He had trashed me severally for arriving to school late.I hardly arrived at school on time.He used to thrash me occasionally thus I already got used to his strokes of cane.

He had given me last warnings.If i were to arrive late , I risked getting a suspension.This would not be good for me . Memories of my late parents bring me sadness.Ever since my parents passed on life has been unbearable.Indeed,it was not easy.It was like domesticating a wild animal.Ever since i was sent to the village to live with my aunt .Life here had been a living hell!

I have to wake up early at five inorder to finish my chores before I leave for school.Thus, occasionally I arrived to school late.After school,I have to go help my aunt milk the cows and then cook supper afterwards I finish by washing the dishes.I neither have enough time to study nor finish my school assignments.

My aunt neither cares for me nor for my studies.She thinks that studying is a waste of time,Complete rubbish! l always wanted to be a disciplined girl but under this circumstances I could not.It was to much for me to handle.

Finally the next boat arrived.I hurriedly got in so that I could occupy the best spot.Thinking about my parents death always brought me to a sombre mood.Why did it have to be me?Was this how my life was going to be?Was there something I could do to change my fate?
