How it began

"Ok, good, now hold it like this. Hoho, you're doing this really well. Good now gently squeeze the trigger." Jake's grandfather said as a loud boom rang across the field.

Jake himself looked awstruck at the cloud of smoke he kicked up with his shot. He was only 9 years old and found it amazing he could do something like that.

But when his parents found out that his grandpa allowed Jake to do that, they strictly prohibited any further gun-ed from him, which forced Jake to leave guns alone for a while. But as soon as he got his own computer he began playing fps games and researched guns, may they be historic or modern.

He is now 16 years old, goes to high school and has made a fairly normal life for himself. He has not many friends, but also isn't a total loner, as he is really close to his seat neighbour in class, Daniel, or just Dan as Jake calls him. They play games together every other night and have themselves a good time, after school.

But that peaceful life soon stopped one morning.

*BEEP*BEEP*BEEP*

Jake was woken up by his alarm, which was way too loud. So he quickly scrambled to shut it off, so it wouldn't wake his parents, who were still sleeping. After unsuccessfully hitting the snooze button for the third time he just decided to pull the plug.

He then left his room to brush his teeth and then went to make himself breakfast. Well at least that was the plan, but on his alarm clock he saw that it was already too late and therefore he skipped eating breakfast, speedran brushing teeth and then ran out the door. But when he stepped outside, where the busstop was, he wanted to cry, as the bus was already driving away, without any hope of catching up.

"Shit, guess I'll have to go to school by foot now." Jake cursed, but his smile soon brightened as he saw another figure running after the bus just a few metres away. It was Daniel, so at least he won't be lonely when walking to school.

"Hey Daniel, how's it going." Jake said to the out of breath teenager in front of him.

"Hey Jake, also missed the bus huh?" Daniel answered while breathing heavily.

Jake nicked and they began walking.

After a few minutes of walking Jacks Phone suddenly began vibrating in his pocket.

"Huh a message from the playstore. 'This game may interest you: Gun...'. Well the rest of the name doesn't fit in the message anymore, but I guess the playstore knows me well by now." Jake said.

"Well, if that game is good for you, I guess it'll be for me too." Daniel answered. "Should we play after school?"

"Sure man, well if the game is any good." Jake replied.

After another few minutes they arrived at school and sat in their class. There, because they still had some time until the first lesson of the day began, they connected to school internet and downloaded the game, that Jake had been recommended.

Jake and Dan clicked on open in synch and so too promptly got a weird feeling around their chest, like something was shutting off their lungs. And so they fell unconscious, to the shock of their class, to the floor.

*tick*tick*tick*

On the wall a very decorative clock did its work dutifully and ticked, ticked and ticked. It was only more aggravating for Jakes sister, who was sitting beside his hospital bed.

Her brother has now been unconcious for more than two whole days and it didn't look good.

Neither did Daniel, who lied next to Jake in the hospital room, have good chances at waking up any time soon.

Their pulse was very low, their breathing weak and their brain activity minimal.

Jakes sister took a last forced look at the pitiful state her brother was in and stood up to leave and go home. The visiting time was over anyways.

The door slowly closed as she was led outside the room by a nurse.

*klanck*

The door shut. That's when suddenly Daniels and Jacks heartrates went up, followed by the brain activity and their breathing quickened drastically, before falling back to a normal state.

""wheeze""

Synchronically Jake and Daniel sat up coughing and frantically catching their breath. They hadn't even registered where they were, when the nurse who led Jake's sister out of the room, burst back into the room and was shocked to see her two patients awake again, against all odds. She rushed out again to tell the doctors.

Jack and Daniel meanwhile had a whole different problem, which was that they for one, found themselves in a hospital, and for the other they had halucinations. Because what they saw before them was not a wall, not a nurse or even a doctor. Rather before them sat in the middle of their vision some kind of HUD. But what is even more concerning, is that the title they saw was all too familiar.
