14 New Magic Rules

As Nate and others were training the field, Baldy was sitting in his office with a guest. Covered in a full robe and a hoodie that covered his face up to his nose, an air of mystery surrounded the room.

Baldy respectfully presented a cup of tea at the table and awaited the response of the seated person.

"How's the training going? Are there any talents the guild should know about?" A feminine sweet was heard as the hooded person took the tea in her hand. With the voice so sweet many would mistake her a for a sweet little girl but Baldy was standing beside her with few drops of sweat appearing in his forehead.

"Yes, 80 have moved to 2nd stage training and among them 5 are mages. Their comprehension ability isn't bad either. All of them have already derived a single spell out of their innate one and they are already working on their second one. If they manage to survive, I'm sure they can reach 5th stage mage in a decade." Baldy said with a hint of pride in his voice but still sound polite in front of the lady.

"Alas, time is what we lack the most. The legacy camp isn't the only one with new mages, in fact even outside of the camp we have found that many kids have awakened their magic. Although they were late in their awakening, their talent in magic isn't lacking. But still, they need at least a few years worth of training before they can become useful." The lady in the hooded robe replied and dug into her robes with her left hand and took out a file.

"What's this, my lady?" Baldy took the file in his hand and asked the lady.

"A report from the magic council. They want to change the magic system of measurement. Read it yourself and teach those kids as well. The time to commence our plan is near, and we need all the help we can get. This war won't show mercy to old or young and we can do nothing but prepare them for the worst." The lady in the hooded robe said and disappeared from the seat as if she was never there.

Baldy was not surprised to see the lady vanish in thin air and proceeded to his seat while wiping away his sweat. After looking through the file, he nodded in agreement and moved towards the training field where Nate and others were training.

"Bang...Bang...Bang...

AHHHHH

Splashhhh"

Different kind of noise entered Baldy's ear as he entered the training field. Nate's accuracy had been growing a lot and could finally connect half of his fired shots. Olly began to train his physical body which complemented his attribute and fighting style.

Same was true for Annie, Nadia, and John as they continued to use their spells against the wooden dummies. It was rare to see kids of young age give out their all in such harsh training but to Nate and others, this training was easier than physical training.

"Okay, kids gather around. I have a few words to share with you. You can continue your training after that." Baldy said as he called out Nate and others.

"Mr. Baldy, is it something important? If not I'd like to resume my training." John said. John was one of those kids who didn't give much attention to other things that were related to him or affected him in any way.

"Not much, I just received some news about changes that the Magic Council is going to implement soon. The changes are huge but isn't much surprising as many people had been talking about the issue long before the sub-level division were added." Baldy said and flipped the file to read out the content.

"The main change the Magic Council wants to implement is that magic will now be divided into two main branches one being Warrior Branch and other being Mage Branch. Warrior Branch will be comprised of internal magic casters and Mage Branch will be comprised of the external magic caster.

The sub-division between the stages will be removed as they provided little help in the advancement of magic and also could not be applied to many mages as the sub-division was based on the number of spell derivatives one had and mages could derive more than 10 some cases less than 10 before they managed to awakened their next innate spell." Baldy then closed the file and looked towards Nate and others.

"Sounds logical, but it doesn't seem that much important Mr. Baldy. Is there more to it." Nate said as he analyzed the changes brought by the Magic Council. Both external and internal caster used mana from the air, the only difference being how they cast their spells. Sub-division of stages was flawed as well since there was no way of determining the sub-levels.

Nate had heard sub-level depended upon the number of spell derivatives one had but some spells couldn't be derived into more than two or couldn't be derived at all. It all depended upon mage's comprehension and intellect.

"Of course there is more to it and that is the division itself. Magic users who were one are now divided into two, Warriors and Mages. It means the Magic Council itself will be divided into two entity. Internal Casters and External Casters have always been different and had their own circle even though they were tied down by a single title. Internal Casters focused more on a melee attack with swords and spears instead of wands, so Warrior is a good title to call them with.

Setting the titles aside, the Magic Council could break apart or maybe it might develop into a stronger organization. No one knows but the changes brought by them are what we need right now. There are other things as well but it doesn't concern you kids so I'll keep them to myself for now. That's it, now back to your training." Baldy shooed away Nate and others and went back to his office.

Nate and others shrugged their shoulders and went back, whatever happened at Magic Council were none of their business and the changes they implemented didn't affect at all. For them, only their title had changed and it held true for only Olly and John.

...

After a day of training, Nate and others went to enjoy a cold shower and wash off their fatigue. Olly was one of the slowest ones to come out of the bathroom and looked around to search for John and Nate. In the second phase of training, it was only five of them and two being girls and three were boys. Olly, Nate, and John had grown closer as friends as they together most of the times. Same was true for Nadia and Annie as both were girls and had similar interest despite having opposing magic attributes.

He didn't have to search for long as he saw a couple of head sticking out from the roof of the building. It was one of the best places to enjoy the stars during the clear night. Climbing the roof, he saw Nadia and Annie as well, which was rare as they would usually stay in their room and have girls talks or whatever.

Nate was at the edge with one knee on his chin looking at the horizon. John, Nadia, and Annie were laying on their back as they gazed the stars in the sky. Everyone was lost on their own tiny world as they didn't talk and enjoyed the cool breeze of the night.

"Yo, did someone died or something? Why do you all look like people who came back from a funeral?" Olly said as he found his own place to lay down and look at the stars.

"Nothing, we were just talking about future and everyone just got lost on their own thoughts," Nadia replied as she was one of the cheerful ones and one of the talkative ones as well. Annie had temper similar to her attribute but never went out of her way to mess with other people. She enjoyed hearing Nadia as she nodded on things Nadia had to say.

John was the silent type who didn't like being bothered and had few things to say. Nate was also a silent type but talked a lot once he found an interesting topic to talk about. But he would usually refrain from starting a conversation.

When they sitting together it was usually Nadia and Olly who would talk and everyone else would just nod their head indicating they were listening as well.'
