“You should still be at the hospital, Justice.”

“Nah. Fixed up and released. I know sunset was always our thing, but I wanted us to share the sunrise, the beginning,” I said, looking out at the pink sky striped with orange and gray.

“It’s beautiful.”

“You’re not even looking at it.”

“I know.”

He was looking at me, and then we kissed.

“We have a lot to do,” I said afterward. “We have to make our official statements, plan a service for Faye, make sure Ruthie gets a commendation for reading that tabloid of hers, and recommend Glass for a promotion. If I come clean about skipping therapy down in Florida, I’ll be on suspension a while. I want to be better for you, Archie. I want to do that part right, too.”
