Two Doves

"Brother where are we?"

The child who just learned to speak spoke those coherent to his brother.

"I don't know, brother."

They were in a locked cart, covered with tarps of grey as they pass through the road.

They huddled in a corner with a couple of other of his own, all as if they were resigned of their fate. The fear of the unknown would come any second, inching away to their destined location, eating at their minds.

One could slowly imagine what would happen when they could hear the screams of many with the movement of wings.

The tarp that was covering the cage that they were in was unlocked and another widow with her two sons were also in.

The newcomers checked their surroundings, seeing more of their kind stuck in this cage.

The crying of the baby in her arm and the child grabbing hold of her arm spoke.

"Where are we?" As the same words that came from his mouth into the younger one.

"Don't worry sweetie, it'll be all right."

her free arm that was not occupied with the other sibling moved in to caress his head. The smile of the child was genuine, unknown and oblivious of fate.

"Mother, can I hear another one of your stories."

She looked trouble and stopped to think. Her mind occupied with the inaudible sounds coming from the gloomy passengers.

"Do you know, about the Two Doves?"

"No, can you read it?"

"Well, there once was a dove born from her father and mother."

"He fell from her tree and was alone on the ground."

"All that are dangerous can be felt from this ground, the ground is a playground for the unlawful and can swipe away at children!"

"Oh no!"

The child uses his developing wings in attempts to cover his eyes. Using his hands to cover the remainder.

"Well, a kind and heart full man picked him up and placed him on the tree once more."

"Yay, tell me more!" Signs of excitement felt from his tone and vibrant actions.

"Well, that came at a cost. The parents did not recognize their own child in front of him, and attacked him, making him fall once more!"

He remained silent this time, his eyes showing most of the moods he can express. Sadness, Fear, Anguish. But the story continues.

"He fell from his nest...and wept tears, for his longing for his parents."

"His answer was called and a caring mother managed to pick him up and placed him in her nest.."

"There he had someone to call his sibling, a dove just like him."

"They lived happily for their years as they developed, the siblings unable to be apart from one another as if their hearts were attached."

"But a man, unknown to nature saw this and wanted to hurt them..."

"He devised a scheme to kidnap one of the pair and watch the other's reaction."

"He successfully does so waiting in a patch of bushes and snatching one of them."

"The other returned from his foraging to see the other was missing."

"Days go by, with no success in finding his significant other."

"It gave up, sad on its nest, watching as the stars go by as he wait, waiting for heaven to give him his wings."

The boy finally spoke after the story ended.

"How sad..."

"Yes son...but that is reality..our wings are for us to appreciate and care for one another, to link with others and our curves to be covered."

"It just shows how you have to search for your significant others to do so.."

The child hugged his mother and the mother does the same.

"Will that also happen to us brother?"

"What, no, definitely," whispering to his brother, clasping his hand more tightly on his hand.

"No matter what, I'll protect you, I swear on my wings."

"Okay, brother." He noticed how straightforward he was and spoke the same, not wanting for him to further himself from his level of comfort.

The ride remained bumpy as ever as one could imagine going in potholes and rocks.

But it all stopped. Everyone was not assured what to occur.

The tarp finally opened, revealing the caged cart to the light.

Everyone winced to see what was happening and saw a crowd of people with eyes watching an attraction at a carnival.

A plump man was near the barred door.

His brown hair and tailor coat with his eyes of greed.

Twiddling his mustache, he looked at the batch of the people.

He smiled, observing the group and went on a podium.

He cleared his throat. Announcing to the world.

"Let the auctions begin!"

Some people in the cart knew of the human tongue and immediately were startled.

At that moment, the bar was removed by two armored men with sturdy sizes.

Their faces were covered with their helmets and leathery armor.

Two other men moved in and in hand was the widow who cared for her children from the cart.

She departs from the child who held the infant.

"Mommy!" The child cries out, but nothing could be done.

They could only watch and stare what was happening.

All wondered where God's judgement among these people were doing such travesty.

People began being pulled out from the cart with obvious resistance.

But what could be done to be passed by these men of trained arms?

All that remained were the youths as all the adults were taken from the cart.

Among the small clutter of people, was a child with his brother, holding tightly among one another.
