23 A Safe Place

"Where did I go wrong? Why did they detonate the nuke?" Lying at the bottom of the ocean, Gamera watched the ships floating on the surface. They were far away, barely visible. Sunlight hardly reached the bottom of the ocean.

"I understand why they blew up the Kaiju. I would have done the same myself. But they definitely knew I was here. I could handle the Kaiju so they didn't have to interfere." Gamera didn't move when he tried to do something, his body was in great pain. So just lying there and doing nothing was good for him. If the people launch another attack, he won't be able to stand it. He was now completely defenseless.

Turning his head, he saw the Kaiju's dead body. Little is left of him. Because he was actually "hugging" the bomb, he was blown to pieces. Gamera could have become the same if he had not reacted in time. He was surprised he hadn't gone blind. It must be because he covered his face with his hands. But he lost his hearing and sense of smell.

What else confused him was that he wanted revenge, but he didn't know who or how. He will not be able to find the one who gave the order. Destroying ships and submarines makes no sense. And in general, he could not cope with aliens without people. He still needed their support to survive. He will not be able to create a portal to the planet of aliens and bomb them. Come to think of it, is his presence necessary to win?

Homer forgot how many people he saved or how many cities he saved from destruction. It's hard to cheer yourself up at such times. He could only lower his head and wait for these feelings to pass. If he had the strength, he would be angry and show people that this cannot be done. Fortunately or unfortunately, his body was not in a state to even generate such emotions.

"I have to get out of here. If they find out I'm alive, they'll set off another bomb. But this time out of fear of revenge." It was necessary to gather strength. So Gamera began to check what was working in his body. Moving his limbs, he found that only one arm remained in normal condition. The rest of the limbs hurt a lot when moving.

"Where's my tail?" Gamera found his little tail unresponsive to commands, so he assumed the worst. "I'll miss you my friend..."

Little by little he started to move. He wasn't worried about being detected by GPS (or whatever they had attached to him). No device could survive this. But underwater movements will not go unnoticed, especially when ships are sailing overhead. "At what speed do torpedoes move?" He was quite worried.

Another problem was that he needed the Kaiju to recover. Now he wanted to go back to the site with the radioactive waste, but there wouldn't be enough for recovery. The body needs building material for healing.

Approaching the Kaiju, he gripped the largest piece of the body in his teeth and pulled him to his safe place. Constantly looking around, Gamera slowly swam. Fortunately, there was no second bomb. It is not known why they did not fire again. Maybe they didn't notice him? It is impossible. Perhaps they thought they would blow it up again if necessary. Or they think that Gamera will now be afraid of people and will not come near the shores.

You can think about it for a long time, but until you ask, you will not know the truth. This whole situation is the price of Gamera's unwillingness to reveal that he understands human language. He could just tell everything and there would be no problem. But even so, he did not want to do it and did not regret his decision. He survived, and that's the main thing now.

It took forever to get to safety. All the while, ships sailed above him, watching and tickling his nerves. He seemed to be constantly under the gun's sights. When he swam to the spot, he breathed a sigh of relief.

The reason he thought the place was safe was because of the radioactive waste itself. If people dare to detonate a nuclear bomb here, this waste will scatter all over the ocean. Life in the ocean is unlikely to appreciate such a development.

Here he could calmly recover, starting to eat the Kaiju. He didn't need to rush anymore, so he stretched this process out for a whole week. The only thing that bothered him was the drones that sometimes followed him. He didn't want a GPS sensor attached to him again. Being in constant contact with people was good in the beginning, but now it was already a problem.

To prevent people from attaching a GPS, he tried to stay awake and follow the drones. Sometimes he pretended to be asleep to see if people would dare to do something, but the drones still didn't come near him. After many days of struggling with sleep, he fell asleep.

[Time skip: 6 months]

Gamera woke up to the feeling of the Kaiju's presence. Another attack began. But Gamera didn't move, he just watched. A few days later, he felt a surge of radiation, and after that, the sense of the Kaiju's presence disappeared.

"Looks like the humans have decided to blew up the Kaiju. They don't have any Jaegers yet, or did the Jaeger lose the battle?" These questions did not worry him much. Even if he wanted to intervene, he couldn't. His armor hadn't fully recovered yet, so he didn't want to go and fight. Without armor, he wasn't sure he could survive a nuclear blast. But that wasn't the main reason, he just didn't want to. He is just a person, and the negative emotions that were in him will not pass quickly.

A week later, he felt another burst of radiation, followed by another a few days later. These explosions surprised him greatly, but later he realized that people had found a portal at the bottom of the ocean and were trying to close it.

Soon after, the humans detonated another nuke on the portal, and after that it was all over. There is a limit to how many bombs nature can withstand. One cannot constantly pollute the environment without consequences. There's no point in bombing the portal if it doesn't work. If no one can live on the planet, then what is the point of fighting?

All the difficult events that Gamera experienced made him stronger. He was about 80-90 meters tall. With this height, he could handle the first Kaiju better, especially when his entire body became much harder and stronger. After these changes, Gamera felt that the next time he was hit with a nuclear bomb, it wouldn't be such a problem. He may be hurt, but he certainly won't lose his fighting ability, especially after absorbing all the radiation from the explosion and from this place.

Soon he needed to leave this place. It has almost exhausted itself. Gamera didn't want to completely absorb everything or he would lose his beacon for navigation. A few months later, he surfaced completely renewed and stronger.
