As soon as I sat down, one of my male co-workers came up to me. “Nicole, Jason wants to see you.”

“Oh? Okay. Thank you.”

I was near Jason’s office when I noticed that he has someone with him inside. I knocked on the glass window. “Jason? You called for me?”

The man with him slowly turned to look back. Yet again. It’s no other than Jerk. So early in the morning and yet, here he is, disturbing workers.

“Nicole, take a seat! I just can’t believe Lieg’s story here. Was it true that you got mad at him two days in a row?” Jason asked while suppressing his laughter.

I sat on a chair nearest to the wall, the farthest from Jerk. I took a deep breath before speaking. “Yes, Jason it’s true. No offense to Sir Lieg here, but I believe that we were out of work grounds when the incidents happened.”

Jason laughed again and Jerk was just smiling there in his seat. Here I am, confused as to what I should do or react. I was thinking about just leaving them here but I don’t think I can.

“Is there anything else I can help you with, Jason?” I, a little bit sarcastically, said.

Jason tried to stop himself from laughing before speaking. “Thank you, Nicole. You may go back.”

I nodded at him before I got out.

“Bro! I can’t believe an employee really went against you! Hahaha!”

“I know, Jason. It’s refreshing for me as well. She really is something else.”

I frowned. ‘Something else’? Really? You are such a Jerk! Ugh, it’s too early in the morning for this kind of thing.

Lunchtime came but I still wasn’t finished with my work. So, I just opened GrabFood and thought of what I should eat when my phone rang.

“Hello? Who is this?”

“Nicole! I need you in my office, now.” Then he hung up.

Who is this? Whoever he is good luck with him. I’ll just order my food. Soon, the delivery man arrived with my food and so finally I can eat. I was preparing my utensils when someone shouted at my back. I almost threw the food that was on my table.

“MISS NICOLE SIRENCHO! DID YOU NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT I SAID IN THE PHONE A WHILE AGO? I NEED YOU IN MY OFFICE!”

I immediately turned to look back and my eyes widened. “Si-Sir Lieg!”

“What? You’re just going to look at me? GET INSIDE MY OFFICE NOW!”

I jumped from my seat and hurriedly went to his office. I didn’t know that it was he who called a while ago! He didn’t introduce himself and I didn’t notice his voice. I didn’t know that when Jason called me in his office, it was a sign of a bad omen. Tsk

I was surprised when I entered his office. It is so messy! It’s like a hurricane or tornado came in and wrecked the place. What in the world will I do this time? He has a secretary who can help him with his things.

“My secretary is absent today and I need someone to help me arrange these papers. First, I need those papers on the flood arranged according to their department. After, wait for my next instructions.” Jerk immediately barked orders at my back. I wasn’t informed that being a secretary was an added job description and duty of mine. But, I can’t really comment or protest since he is my boss and I’m just a new hire.

While I was arranging the papers in the receiving area of his office, Jerk’s phone suddenly rang but I just let it be. But, it rang again and I could see his face crumble up. It’s obvious he doesn’t want to talk to whoever is calling. Or, it’s also possible that he doesn’t want someone disturbing his working pace.

He stood up and fixed himself. He caught me staring at him. “Nicole, don’t just stare at me! Do your work. If anyone looks for me, say that I am at an important meeting. If my landline rings, don’t answer. Lastly, keep your phone with you so I can text you with other instructions.” Then he left the office.

I just finished the third department when the door suddenly opened.

“Sorry, Mr. Lim is out on a meeting. Please come back next time and maybe get an appointment scheduled. Thank you. Have a good day!” I said while continuing to arrange the papers in front of me.

“Wow! In just a span of a few hours, you look like a trained secretary of Lieg!” Jason said while clapping.

I looked and smiled at him. He’s a breath of fresh air after how many hours I’ve been here in this office.

“Jason! You’re here! Je-Sir Lieg is out. He went somewhere.”

“I know. He met with his mom. I also know that you’re here. He visited me in my office before leaving. He told me to watch you because he said, and I quote, ‘might do something with my things.’”

I stopped and frowned. Ugh, that Jerk is really something else. He even put Jason here to watch over me.

Jason cleared his throat before continuing. “Actually, I just wanted to visit you and see how you were doing. I know it was kind of sudden when he called you a while ago. It’s my fault actually.” He then looked away from me.

“Your fault? Why? What did you do?” It’s very intriguing.

“He texted me, asking for your number. I gave it and asked what he’ll do, and got a reply saying he’ll call you. Then, he sent a follow-up text saying that I don’t need to bother telling you that he’ll call because he believes that you will recognize his voice.”

My eyes widened. My gosh! This Jerk is really stupid! It’s a phone call. It’s hard to distinguish the voice even if a person memorized the voices. I immediately got my phone and looked at the call log.

“Is it this +6399XXXXXXXX his?”

“Yep.”

“Oh. Is it his personal number?” I asked while saving his number as MR. JERK.

“Yes, it’s his personal number. I don’t get why he didn’t just page you through one of the team leaders. He really made an effort to get your number and call you personally.”

Wait. Oh yeah. He can just call me through the office line or through Jason himself. Why did he have to strain himself?

“Nicole, I don’t know what he was thinking but all I know is to look out for whatever happens. Knowing Lieg, he may or may not have something up his sleeve.”

WHAT? Jason could read minds? My gosh! I need to be careful around him!

“Hahahahaha! You are so funny, Nicole! Come, let’s have some snacks before Lieg gets back. I doubt he’ll let you go on time just by looking at the mountainous paper works he has.”

Well, I am tired. I left the stacks of papers and followed Jason outside the office.
