3 Mysterious Force

Thousands of kilometers west of Inanis Village on the border of the Allyian empire was a woman clad in plain black robes floating high in the air. The woman had bright blonde hair and eyes as black as the darkest void.

In the distance she looked at tall wall at approximately 15 meters tall that spanned as far north and south as the eye could see. It stood like a sentinel, casting a shadow against the ground as the sun sank past Gaia. In actuality she knew this wall shielded the Empire throughout the entirety of its western border.

Smirking, she turned to face four individuals all wearing robes similar to hers.

" I summoned you all here because Now is the time to strike, i felt "his" power emanate in the east."

As she said this all the robed figures gasped almost in unison.

"But Mistress, how can that be? "His" Line died with the previous Emperor, and all his descendants were hunted down to exterminate that line for good."

One of the robed men stepped forward and spoke this in a distorted almost mechanical voice.

But in response the woman hardened her gaze and stared at the robed man.

"Ha, your impudence knows no bounds, must I teach you another lesson in respect?"

The woman mockingly spoke while showing her razor sharp red nails. As the man saw the woman's nails he recoiled instinctively and stepped backwards returning to the group of other robed ones.

"I'd never misinterpret "his" power from another. If I felt it, its safe to say those other bastard ArchBishops felt it too. We'll have to make our move against the Empire now." The woman spoke with a determination that symbolized her belief in the matter.

After she finished the four figures looked towards each other and nodded. They all gathered in a circle around the woman and started chanting inaudibly.

A few minutes earlier on the ramparts of the wall A legionnaire by the name Alexus stood on guard duty as he had for months. Equipped in basic legionnaire attire, Leather armor, bracers, and boots, along with a single sword and round shield. As he did his daily patrol route which he could almost do in his sleep he came across a fellow legionnaire on the wall and decided to strike up conversation.

"Hey, brother! What brings you here business or pleasure? Haha!"

Amused by his own question he laughed heartily while he looked at other man.

As he looked at him closer he appeared to be very young no older than twenty.

Looking at the laughing legionaire the young man immediately stiffened up and pressed his right fist to his heart, which was the common salute in the Empire. Seeing this Alexus couldn't help but laugh again.

"Ahaha, boy I'm not your superior I just came to see what brought you here. There's only three type of people I've met that get transferred out here. The ones who want the easy life, those with a sense of duty, and those who get forced. My question is which one are you?"

Taken slightly aback by the question the the young man loosened up.

"Oh, well my father was a legionnaire who served here on the wall for a year when he first enlisted. I swore I'd follow in his footsteps to become like him, defending the Empire."

The boy spoke with a determination that Alexus has seen many times. Shaking his head he told the boy.

"A hopeful huh? Well kid sorry to burst your bubble but your kind don't belong on the wall. This wall hasn't been sieged in over a century."

Sighing Alexus couldn't help but pity the kid. While the kid had the heart he once had when he was young, he was naive. Despite that Alexus wasn't like him anymore. He's spent ten years on this wall and hadn't had to swing his sword at an enemy even once. That's what the wall was like in this era. Nothing like the Great Conquering that happened at the formation at the Empire.

"Look kid, I know you want to follow your father's footsteps but, if you really want to serve the empire and fight for its glory go join an expeditionary force. There's still plenty of untamed lands out there that rightfully belong to the empire."

Slapping the kid on the shoulder and walking away Alexus left the young legionnaire to his thoughts. Once he was a distance away Alexus nonchalantly looked over his shoulder, checking to see if there was anyone around. After he confirmed there was no one around a big grin came onto his face. Reaching into his armor he pulled out a wooden flask and took a long swig.

"Ah. Nothing like some booze to make this patrol go quicker."

Leaning over the wall and looking past the Empire's borders Alexus took in the wilderness. Beyond the walls was a clear cut forest for a couple hundred meters, but beyond that was a vast and dense forest. This was done to detect any enemy armies so they couldn't commit any surprise attacks against the wall. This was actually one of the main duties of the legionnaires stationed at the wall, making sure there was a buffer between the wall and the forest.

As the wind blew and the smell of the forest and nature filled his nostrils Alexus felt at ease with the peaceful bliss. He spotted a black butterfly fluttering over to the wall which Mystified him. It fluttered over towards him and landed on the ramparts as it landed it began fluttering its wings and spreading sparkling black specks. As these specks came into contact with the wall, first a sizzling sound was heard, then after a second the area around the butterfly began disappearing, no almost as if they were fading out of existence.

How could this be? The magical sensors stationed on the wall should detect any anomalies and fluctuations in magical particles around the wall. Just what in the world was that butterfly if not magic? To his knowledge there has never been documentation of a creature with that capability.

Completely baffled by the occurrence directly in front of him, Alexus struggled momentarily to remember proper protocol to matters like this. Sprinting away he Pulled a whistle off his neck which he blew while running away from the disastrous butterfly.

The whistle was a magical trinket which was connected to all other trinkets on its loop. Which essentially alerted all others stationed on the wall. Items like it were quite common among guardsman around the Empire.

As Alexus sprinted away he looked back and saw that the wall was continuing to disappear in both directions causing an open gap to appear in the wall that grew by the second. Terrified beyond imagination Alexus used all his might to get away. Soon the ground beneath him disappeared and he himself plummeted to the ground below him.

Watching this in the distance the woman in black smiled.

"The damage is done. Soon the empire's enemies will strike giving us our opportunity. Let's leave for now."

That day the Empire lost 2 kilometers of their boderwall in the matter of minutes.
