51 Possession

“I know a stupid question from the looks of it, but…” Ashraf paused, his hand running circles on my back, “are you okay?”

Did he know I puked? Could he smell it in the air? Hear it, perhaps?

I suppose my guise for bravery was quite brittle. All it took was the sight of one dead...human.

Why was the human there?

“What happened to the Rakshasa?” I asked, my sight fixed on the limp body of an old woman. Her skin was all wrinkled and pale, her arms had no jewelry except for the blue glass bangles on both of her wrists. She wore a simple plain saree of blue.

She looked so...normal.

Except, ofcourse, the giant hole in her chest where her heart should be.

“It’s...gone,” Rei said. Gone? The body was right there. Sure, not the giant dog-wolf that she and Ryu were fighting but this was what was left behind. This was not on the ground before.

“Gone as in dead or gone as in escaped?”

“Dead. Gone for good,” Ashraf answered in a soft tone.
