Cobalt was eyeing Ren with a kind of bemused look. And it was a bit odd to Ruby how she'd come to actually be able to tell apart some of the looks on a Grimm's face.
The world sure was a mysterious place. If someone told her she'd be in Mistral, sitting at a table with the shrunken form of a gargantuan Grimm possessing the soul of a reincarnated boy she went to school with, she would have...well she wasn't sure what she would have done really. But she knew she would have thought they were crazy, or at least very very drunk. Or both.
A thought occurred to Ruby as she looked at the boy Grimm, "Hey Cobalt," she spoke up, and he turned his attention towards her, his glowing slitted green and red eyes meeting hers, "Can you eat food? Like, do you get hungry at all?"
Ren stopped what he was doing and turned towards them at her question and eyed Cobalt's small form inquisitively, "You know, that is a very good question," the pink eyed boy commented, crossing his arms and leaning against the cooker, "You'd make a fascinating case study Cobalt, and let us learn much about the creatures of grimm."
Cobalt tilted his cute little head to the side and Ruby held back a laugh at the absurdity of it all. That an evolved Manticore grimm, a legendary one even according to Professor Ozpin, with a stinger that could kill a grown huntsman in mere minutes, could be so cute was utterly absurd, "..I don't know actually if I can eat food," he replied. He looked a little lost actually, like it hadn't even occurred to him before, "I've never felt hungry at all since I reincarnated, heck, I don't even need to sleep beyond mental fatigue, last night was the last time I went to sleep properly in over a month."
Ren hummed in interest and nodded his head, "I see, it does make a little sense, the creatures of grimm are ageless after all, practically immortal if not killed, and we know now that they are practically beings of magic, created by the god of darkness," the oldest of the current three mused, "Still, I can't imagine going without the simple pleasure of tasting good food for so long."
Ruby found herself nodding along, "Yeah, I can't imagine not being able to eat cookies!" oh the sheer horror. It made her want to cry in sympathy for poor Cobalt. No wonder he always wanted to be comforted with his head between her and others girls boobs.
"Well, if you want to try it out later, just let me know," Ren spoke up again towards Cobalt. Ruby lifted her hand into the air and clenched it into a fist looking towards the ceiling making a vow. She'd volunteer her boobs to comfort poor Cobalt and save him from the despair of never eating cookies again, "I'll make anything you want."
Cobalt chuckled, "Well, thanks for the offer Ren, it means a lot, I'll be sure to take you up on it," he replied, "If for nothing else than curiosity at least."
Ren nodded, "That's fine with me," he said in return before turning around and picking up his plate of pancakes. Cobalt shook his head in amusement and Ruby withheld a gasp as she saw the mass amount of pancakes, rising up like a tower in the air, "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to enjoy this before Nora potentially wakes up and comes to steal them from me. I rarely get the chance to enjoy pancakes, but she'll definitely be going through some kind of withdrawal burning out all the power you zapped her with last night Cobalt, I don't think she's ever taken in that much power before. But, I can never be sure with her." and then he made his way into the living room and plopped down on the couch with his massive stack of pancakes.
"..I think that's the most I've ever heard Ren speak," Cobalt snorted, "And to think, it was about pancakes of all things."
"Yeah, turns out Ren is just really zen most of the time, but has a lot going on upstairs in that noggin' of his," Ruby replied. "So, what's your plans for today?" she asked, and did her best to hide her eagerness at having nobody else around to steal his attention. Weiss stole him up into her room with her yesterday before they could finish their talk...and Nora was very greedy when it came to getting his attention even back two weeks ago, and she'd definitely hogged him all to herself last night.
...Ruby wasn't jealous at all that he'd made Nora's semblance evolve and then spent over three hours running amok with her, before sleeping in her room with her. Nora was just being way too greedy, that was all!
"Well, we never got to finish what we were talking about yesterday," Cobalt noted, he held up his paw and she saw his claws shimmer green and suddenly, sharp sparkling jade like crystal was layered across them. So cool! "You wanna experiment with my crystal power?"
Too much excitement filled her too fast. "Yes!" she eagerly replied, and Cobalt yelped a bit in surprise when she grabbed him up and cradled him to her chest, "Let's go to my forge!"
She'd set it up the second day they were here. She needed a place to look after and upgrade her baby after all!
-----------
When looking at it objectively, Cobalt was kind of overpowered Ruby thought. She walked around a large pillar of crystal he'd formed inside her makeshift forge room, looking for any weak points, or thin areas to start trying to smash into, but..there were none. It was perfectly dense, to the tiniest point. She wasn't sure just how tough this stuff was, but, it wouldn't surprise her if it wasn't that far off from the hardness of diamond. And it was so pretty too, even without being exposed to sunlight, it glowed minutely and sparkled.
This stuff made into jewelry would probably be worth a ton of lien.
Sweat accumulated on her bared upper chest, the room was already sweltering with the doors shut and the forge blazing with heat. Though, for once, she hadn't needed to waste fire dust to get it going. Cobalt had just breathed fire and lit it up for her!
She'd had to take off her hooded cape simple because of the sheer heat that built up so quickly, leaving her in just her corset and skirt. Not that Cobalt had seemed to mind at all, the little opportunist.
But yes, Cobalt was pretty overpowered. Not only could he grow to a massive size and shrink as he pleased now. He could also fly. Create these incredibly dense and hard crystals, and breath both flame and massive amount of electricity.
A house with him wouldn't even need lightning dust to power appliances, he could just power the appliances himself. It made her think back to when Professor Ozpin was explaining magic to them. He had mentioned that he had lived back then, in the age of magic. And had referred off handedly, to the current era as the age of dust. 'Does that mean, Cobalt's already moved past this age?' Ruby idly wondered.
Shaking her head, the silver eyed girl turned towards Cobalt where he was sitting on one of the work benches. She raised an eyebrow in interest when she noticed he had a paw raised into the air and seemed to be focusing pretty intently. Small bits of black smoke, like those of a decomposing grimm swirled around his claws and converged into a sphere, growing and growing till about the size of her head, before it puttered out and dispersed and Cobalt let loose a sigh of annoyance.
She'd been planning on asking if to carve up the crystal for her into smaller pieces, but curiosity got the better of are, "What are you trying to do?" Ruby asked.
He tilted his head to the side to look at her and shrugged his shoulders, "When I absorb Grimm, I get a bit of their strength when I absorb all the smoke stuff they leave behind. But it's pretty miniscule all things considered, which is weird I thought since I absorb all of it," he explained, raising her interest, "And well, Weiss showed me how good she'd gotten with her Glyph Summoning thing and it got me thinking. That big ass wyvern at Beacon could summon other Grimm, so maybe I can do something like it as well."
Ruby's eyes practically sparkled, "That is awesome!" she gushed and zipped over to him, "How's it going so far? What kind of Grimm can you summon? It's not just a ton of Beowolves is it?" she rapid fire asked.
Cobalt chuckled and swiped his paw through the air, conjuring more of the grimm smoke, "..I feel some kind of connection and I feel like I'm on to something," he replied, "If I'm right, I should be able to summon all the Grimm I've killed and absorbed."
Ruby's eyes went wide as something occurred to her, "...Didn't you get that lightning beam thing you used on Nora from a Sea Feilong?" she asked. She hadn't even heard of them before until Professor Ozpin had filled them all in on it last night and why Nora's Semblance had grown stronger and why she was running wild on an energy high never before seen from her, not even from Ren.
And, well, they were absolutely massive monsters. "Yup, I ambushed it and killed it when it wasn't paying attention to me, otherwise I probably would have had a hell of an uphill battle to take that thing down." Cobalt replied, turning around and concentrating on the smoke around his paw again.
That was....awesome! She could just imagine how helpful it would be if Cobalt could summon them all like a big army, and the help it would be in protecting the world. And with each single new Grimm he'd kill, they'd gain one more ally.
She idly imagined Cobalt in his massive form standing at the back of a massive grimm army of beowolves, nevermore, ursa, beringel, goliaths and all manners of other grimm and directing them into battle against another big army of Grimm. Ah, so cool! She had to hold back a squeal.
She hook her head and put it out of mind for now, she still had things she needed to get gone! "Hey, before you do that, can you cut up that big crystal you made for me? It's too big for me to really do anything with it right now." she asked.
"You sure are a needy girl." he stopped what he was doing again to tease her, "What's the magic word?"
What a cheeky butt he was sometimes. But, rue the day Cobalt! She, the great Ruby Rose, prodigal leader of Team Rwby had learnt how to deal with you! Smiling cheekily, Ruby bent forward a bit and squeeze her arms around her chest, pushing up her breasts within her corset and making her cleavage look even bigger, "Pleeeaaaasse." she 'pleaded'.
Cobalt blinked and just stared at her in bemusement. 'What, did I do it wrong?' Ruby wondered. That was one of the things Yang used to pull when flirting with guys. And she knew Cobalt liked her boobs, he said so!
Cobalt chuckled, shaking his small head, "Sure Ruby." he replied, and hopped down from the work bench and made his way towards the crystal pillar that was nearly ten feet high and five feet wide.
His claws flashed green as he conjured crystals atop them and with a powerful thrust that shook the entire room and sent crystal shards flying everywhere, he did as requested.
Idly dodging around the flying crystal shards, Ruby fist pumped. It was just a delayed reaction! Cobalt would come to fear the Ruby Booby!
...Or well, love it, but still!
