SUMMER

The morning is cold. Another boring week has began. I open my eyes. I hate my days in Seattle. Am an intern at a company that my boss- actually former boss sent me. I don't know why he would choose me, a new intern to come and work for such a famous company. For an intern, am too busy for my liking. I love to work, yes. But not sending tea for everyone. Yet that seems to be all over I do I in the famous company.

My phone rings. Diane. What does she want??? I wonder. I didn't want to report to work today. but I guess I have to. I mute the call and take a shower. I grab my money purse though it has a few notes.

At work, the atmosphere is tense. Different from the usual, everyone is quiet. No one calls for tea or a snack. "Is everyone okay?" I ask. Diane looks at me. "The boss is back," she says, "And he wants to see you." I hold back a smile, slightly delighting at the possibility of freedom. I will tell him that I don't want to work her. Am sure he will understand. When the elevator opens, I sigh. I knock at the office door. "Come in." The air in the office is vibrant, fresh and minty. The person is out of my sight and I Scan the office for any sight of him.

"What is it?" the deep voice asks."Well sir.." I break off, not knowing his name. "Kane," he offers. "Yeah. Sir Kane....." "Only Kane. Not Sir or Mr," he says, still out of my sight. "Oh. Okay. Well then Kane. I don't want to work here. I rather you get someone else to help you," I say and square my shoulders.
