39 Chapter 39 Old Man

​Varen came out of the bathroom freshly changed. He then stretched his body out since being in bed for a week can really rust your bones.

Varen: "By the way mom, did anyone see you bring me here?"

May: "Nope, I made sure that no one knows who took Nightwing. I got rid of any press and nosy police men in the area.

Varen: "What about higher government officials, such as-"

Varen was not able to finish since he was cut off midway.

Fury: "Such as S.H.I.E.L.D? I'm afraid that's too late Mr. Parker, or should I say Nightwing?"

Fury had opened the door to Varens room and was already inside. Varen looked toward Fury and narrowed his eyes. It seems like his identity has been revealed earlier than expected. Oh well, does not really matter.

Varen: "Hello Mr. Fury. It's nice to meet you again. It seems like you have finally found out who I am, although I have to admit it was earlier than I expected."

Fury: "You are very impressive Mr. Parker. To be able to hide your identity from S.H.I.E.L.D like that and so well, there are not many people that can do something like that. If it was not for your mother not being careful enough, we would have never found out."

Varen: "Well once you saw that Orion was the one to come to Nightwings rescue, it's not so hard to deduce that there was a connection. After that all you had to do was connect the dots."

Fury: "You make it sound so simple."

Varen: "I apologize, would you like a medal for figuring it out?"

Varen and Fury were having a staring contest while everyone else was standing behind Varen.

Fury: "Do you mind if we talk business once more?"

Varen: "Why is there a need to discuss again? I thought I made it clear that I dont like being bound and taking commands."

Fury: "And what if I told you that you would not be bound by contracts and obligations?"

Varen raised an eyebrow at this.

Varen: "Explain."

Fury: "This world is going to face dangers that us humans can not handle. All of our weapons and bombs wont be able to save us. What we need is people with gifts, people that want to do good, that want to help the world. You are already helping the world Mr. Parker-"

Varen: "Call me Varen. Mr. Parker is my dad."

Nick nodded and continued.

Fury: "like I was saying, you are already helping people. Why not help people on a greater level?"

Varen: "I help people whenever they need help, I wont suit up only when there are government problems, Nightwing is the hero of New York and her people. Not the Governments puppet."

Fury: "The government may seem like a huge dick sometimes, but I assure you that they have the worlds best interests in mind. Stark sees this which is why he agreed to join."

Varen stayed silent for a moment as he was deciding what to do. He honestly did not see it that bad to join the Avengers, after all they do a lot of good. The one thing that bugs him is the future Sokovia accords which broke apart the Avengers on the first place.

Fury: "Tell you what, come with me to go meet someone. After that, if you really dont want to join the Avengers then fine."

Varen: "Who are we meeting?"

Fury gave a smile and walked out the room.

Fury: "You'll see."

Varen turned toward his family behind him.

Varen: "I'll be back."

Felicia: "Ok, dont forget that you wanted to talk to us."

Varen nodded.

Varen: "I wont."

May walked up to her son with a guilty expression.

May: "I'm sorry honey, it's all my fault that they found out-"

Varen: "Its ok mom, I dont blame you at all. I knew I wouldn't be able to hide from them for ever. Now I'm going to go with the pirate for a little bit then be back. Can you prepare for my TRIP?"

Varen put emphasis on the word trip, since his mother knew about him going to Wakanda. It's been a week and his date to meet with the King has arrived.

May nodded with understanding while Fury raised an eyebrow at him being called a pirate.

Peter: "Can I come?"

Everyone looked toward Peter.

Peter: "I want to be an Avenger too!"

I look at Fury to see how he responds.

Fury: "This is not some club that anyone can just join because they want to. Spiderman is good at keeping the neighborhood safe, but world issues? I have yet to see it."

Peter looked down dejected.

Varen: "I've seen it. Spiderman will save the world one day, I can assure you."

Fury was silent for a moment then made his decision.

Fury: "Fine, I will think about it. But I have to talk to tour brother alone."

Peter practically jumped up with joy at the words, he might get to be an Avenger! Varen chuckled as he followed Nick out of the hospital and to his car. It was a normal looking black SUV. They got in and drove for about 40 minutes to an old looking gym. Varen couod make a guess as to who they were going to meet and was honestly a little excited.

They entered the gym hearing what sounded like a punching bag. They walked toward the sound and found a man punching the bag so hard it flew off the chain it was being held by. The man sighed and walked to another sand bag that was on the floor.

Fury: "It seems like that's the trend with you, always breaking a sand bag when I come in."

So I finally get to meet the famous Captain America! He looks just like Chris Evans, cool!

Steve: "Its nice to see you again sir. I guess it's just a trend now."

Steve smiled as he started to punch the bag again.

Fury: "I got someone I want you to meet."

Nick gestures to me as Steve stops what hes doing and looks at me.

Steve: "And who is this?"

Fury: "Hopefully a new member of your team."

Varen: "I don't take orders."

Steve: "And may I ask why not?"

Varen: "I like my freedom. I dont need others telling me what to do."

Steve crossed his arms and stared at me.

Steve: "Who are you?"

Varen: "Varen Parker."

Steve: "Who?"

My eye twitched when I heard this. Well I guess its reasonable that he does not know who I am, after all he has been frozen for a long time.

Fury: "Think of him like Tony Stark."

Steve: "That rich playboy?"

Fury: "He is also Nightwing. I trust you read the file on him?"

Steve: "There wasn't much on it. So your Nightwing?"

I nod to him. I extend my hand and we properly shake hands.

Steve: "So your joining my team?"

Varen: "First of all, no. And even if you guys were to convince me, It would be my team."

Steve: "Will it now?"

Varen: "Of course, why does it have to be your team? I get that you were in the army like, way back when, but you were frozen for a long time. You are barely getting used to the ways of our world now."

Steve: "I'm adjusting."

Fury: "And how did you know he was frozen?"

I rolled my eyes at the both of them.

Varen: "Oh please, do you seriously think that S.H.I.E.L.D is the only one that can do research?"

Fury: "But that's classified information."

Varen: "Uh-huh, so is the tesseract, what of it?"

The two were silent. After a while Nick sighed and rubbed his forehead like he was getting a head ache.

Fury: "Look, even if you joined the Avengers, Steve would still lead it."

Varen: "Why?"

Fury: "Because I said so."

Varen: "Like I said, I'm not joining...but I also said that I will help you on missions. I dont mind tagging along and helping the Avengers do their missions, but I'm not and Avenger in name. You are not able to control me in any way. I do what I want, when I want."

Nick thought about my offer for a while. After a long silence he sighed.

Fury: "Fine. But if we were to see that you crossed a line of any kind, then we wont hesitate to treat you as an enemy."

Varen: "That's fine by me."

Fury: "What about Spiderman?"

Varen: "Hes his own man, I wont be making decisions for him anymore. He can join if he wants to, but know this. If he were to ever be used as a bargaining chip to threaten me...you better believe that I would destroy shield and leave nothing but destruction."

Fury: "Then it's a good thing we would never do that."

Nick is not gonna lie, he felt a chill go down his spine. For some reason, he believed this teenager.

Varen: "Then we wont have a problem. I have things to do today so I'm leaving, it was nice meeting you old man!"

Varen said this to Steve who laughed. I guess he found it funny. Varen walked outside and made sure no one was watching and he flew up into the sky and to the direction of his NightCave.
