38 Chapter 38 Getting Back Up

Varen slowly opened his eyes to a constant beeping noise that was ringing on his right. He felt his chest was heavy and slowly looked down to see MJ and Gwen sleeping with their heads resting on his chest. Varen looked around on the room he was in and realized that he was in a private hospital that Orion owns.

Varen wanted to get up but he did not want to wake up the sleeping beauty's, since it seemed that they were really tired. They most likely stayed up due to their worry.

Varen smiled softly and rubbed the girls heads. Just then the room door opened and who was standing in the doorway was none other than Felicia, who had two pair of clothes in hand.

Felicia: "Your awake!"

She said with a relief in her voice, and loud enough to wake up Gwen and MJ. The two tired girls rose their heads while rubbing the drowsiness from their eyes. It took them a moment to register that Varen was now awake, and way they did they both hugged him at the same time.

MJ: "Your finally awake, idiot!"

Gwen: "You had us worried sick!"

Felicia walked up to the side of the hospital bed and sat down on one of the chairs. After the two girls let go of Varen she leaned in and kissed him on the cheek.

Felicia: "You really did make us worry."

Varen: "I'm sorry. How long was I out for?"

Felicia: "...about a week."

Varen: "A week?!"

MJ and Gwen nodded in confirmation to what Felicia said.

Felicia: "When they found your body it was burned up so badly that you could even see some of your bones. You dont know how scared I was when I heard this from the paramedics at the scene."

Varen: "That's probably why I was out for so long, my injuries this time were bo mere gun wound that I could heal quickly. Where is everyone else at?"

Felicia: "Your mother and father went to go and get something to eat, they were starving from not leaving your room for the longest time."

Gwen: "Peter also stayed for a long time. He refused to leave even when we told him to go get something to eat."

He must feel guilty and is blaming himself for what happened, that idiot.

Varen: "I'm sorry girls, I was not able to tell you about what I wanted to say when I told you to meet me."

MJ: "Dont worry about that! You can always tell us later, besides we all fully believe that your Nightwing. After all, you healed from what would normally kill a man in a weeks time."

Varen: "Hahah, I guess that's true. But that was not everything I wanted to talk about."

Gwen: "Then you will tell us later, for now you need rest."

Varen: "I've been resting for a whole week, I'm fine."

Varen said as he pulled the needle out of his arm.

Varen: "Do you girls have some clothes I can change into?"

The girls did not get a chance to answer since three people walked into the room.

Peter: "They dont, but I do."

May: "Why are you out of your bed?"

Varen looked toward his family and smiled.

Varen: "I'm feeling 100% already."

Ben: "I'm sure hes fine honey."

Varen: "Hey dad, it feels like I haven't seen you in forever!"

Varen went and hugged his dad.

Ben: "Well I have been stuck managing your company you twerp!"

Varen: "And that's why your the best dad ever!"

Varen then hugged his mom.

May: "You really had me worried Varen! I thought I told tmyou to be careful."

Varen: "I know, sorry ma."

Varen finkshed hugging May and was now standing in front of Peter. Peter looked down and Varen could see that he was feeling guilty.

Varen: "What? Are you blaming yourself for what happened? Are you upset that you couldn't do anything to help me? Well of course you couldn't, because you are weak!"

Peter seemed to flinch at Varens words, like he hit the bullseye.

May: "Varen! How can you say that?"

May was going to continue scolding Varen but she felt a hand hold her back, it was Ben.

Ben: "Let them work it out."

He whispered into May's ear which was able to convince her to stay out of it.

Peter stayed silent as Varen stared at him. After a while Varen sighed.

Varen: "*Sigh*...I guess your just going to have to get stronger, get stronger so that you dont have to stand there powerless and helpless, as you watch the ones you want to protect get hurt."

Peter clenched his fist very tightly, he swore that he will get stronger. Varen sighed once more and patter Peter's shoulder.

Varen: "Peter, do you know what makes someone Spiderman?"

Peter seemed confused at the question.

Peter: "Being me? Getting bit by a spider and getting powers."

Varen flicked his forehead.

Varen: "Wrong!"

Peter rubbed his forehead in pain.

Peter: "Ow that hurts! I dont get the question!"

Varen: "Being Spiderman is not whether you have powers or if you know how to fight, although that would help a lot. Its whether or not you can get up after being beaten so bad you want to die."

Peter: "Getting back up?"

Varen: "You have the powers, the smarts, and the mask. But can you get back up over and over and over again?"

Peter: "..."

Varen: "How high up have you been Peter?"

Peter: "What?"

Varen: "Is the DC monument the highest you have been?"

Peter: "Yeah."

Varen: "Did you jump from that height?"

Peter: "No."

Varen: "You have to take a leap of faith Peter. Everything is a leap of faith, all you have to do is learn to let go."

Peter: "You want me to jump off a skyscraper?"

Varen: "You can if that's what's gonna help you, but I did not mean that literally Pete. You'll figure it out when the time comes."

MJ: "Wait! Peter is Spiderman?!"

We all turn around and look at MJ.

Varen: "Oh yeah...I forgot to tell you. It shouldn't be so surprising though right? I mean after all you found out about me?"

MJ: "I guess that's true...but why aren't you two so surprised?"

Gwen and Felicia: "We already knew."

MJ: "What?!"

Felicia: "I was the first to know about Varen being Nightwing and Peter being Spiderman."

Gwen: "I found out when Varen came and ate with my family."

MJ: "So I'm the last to know?"

MJ looked toward Varen. For some reason Varen was feeling a little guilty.

Varen: "Yeah, I never really had a good chance to tell you."

MJ: "*sigh*...whatever. You have to tell me everything later."

Varen: "I will."

Varen grabbed the set of clothes from Peter and headed into the bathroom to change.
