9 Longevity Sect’s Saint

"Nangong Sect Leader, how powerful and prestigious was the Longevity Sect ten thousand years ago? Nobody under the sky would dare to disobey their command! However, today the sect has gone into turmoil. You are to blame to have bred such tyrants that bully their peers!" 

Ling Xiao rebuked while he glared at Nangong Xuan.

Jin Se was from the Longevity Sect. Back in the days, Ling Xiao had exhausted himself into cultivating numerous strong disciples. So it was only natural that he was infuriated to witness that Longevity Sect has fallen into ruins.

"Scoundrel!"

"What a rogue! You are not fit to address Nangong Sect Leader. Now get down on your knees for punishment!" 

Both Deng Tiande and Deng Yalin reprimanded Ling Xiao with murderous expressions. 

In their opinion, Ling Xiao's inferior cultivation was worthless. He had relied on nothing but some peculiar thunders. On the other hand, the Sect Leader's remarkable skills were unrivaled. He had destroyed the continuous rolling thunder effortlessly, and it certainly would be an easy feat for him to take Ling Xiao's life.

Nangong Xiao's eyes drifted towards Ling Xiao. His gaze was so deep and vast, it was like a starry night sky that could contain everything, making one impossible to break out of it. 

Despite that, Ling Xiao's expression was tranquil and calm, as if he was not at all affected.

A few moments later, Nangong Xuan forced a bitter laugh. As the corner of his mouth moved the slightest bit, a faint noise was sent into Ling Xiao's ears. 

"As you well know, the expansive sect attracts people of all sorts. In some way or another, competition among the disciples helps them to advance. I can't possibly be in charge of every matter, although I agree that today's incident was indeed Law Enforcement Hall's negligence. Let's not talk about that for a second, as there is something else I'm curious about. Tell me, how did you manage to break through the Sect Protection Formation?"

Nangong Xuan gave Ling Xuan a death stare after he had finished speaking. The look of anticipation in his eyes was simultaneously hinting an intention to kill.

It was as if he was going to put an end to Ling Xiao's life right there and then if he said something wrong.

"Don't be so tense," Ling Xiao replied with indifference as though he did not notice the murderous intent in Nangong Xuan's expression. 

"Longevity Sect's Protection Formation is named Longevity Apotheosize Formation, laid out by Sky Devouring Supreme and Longevity Supreme ten thousand years ago. It's said that its formidable power can slay devils and invest godly powers that even a high-powered supreme has no chance of escaping from it. Longevity Apotheosize Formation must be the main reason Longevity Sect can sustain for ten thousand years. After all, the Sky Devouring Supreme has offended many people back in the day…"

The corner of Ling Xiao's mouth turned into a bitter smile. However, he did not realize the horrified expression that washed over Nangong Xuan's face. 

The words that came out of Ling Xiao were Longevity Sect's deepest secret, known only by generations of Longevity Sect's Sect Leaders. How could a young man like him be aware of that?

"As to who am I? I'm Ling Xiao!" he simply said, but his voice hinted in an unrivaled dignity. 

"Ling Xiao? It can't be? Who are you actually?"

Nangong Xuan's eyes widened in fear as he cried out in alarm and inexplicable waves of emotions washed over him. He was curious about Ling Xiao's baffling identity. 

For someone familiar with Longevity Sect's history, the name Ling Xiao represented honor, pride, but it was also a taboo!

This was because Ling Xiao was the name of the greatest of all time from ten thousand years ago — the Sky Devouring Supreme!

"I am who I am. I'm Ling Xiao! Alas, the revival of Longevity Sect is still my destiny. You're talented in martial arts, seeing as you've succeeded in breaking through to the Grandmaster Boundary solely with the help of an incomplete Longevity Scripture. "How do you know about the Longevity Supreme Scripture? Really, who are you? Ling Xiao, Ling Xiao… It's impossible. The person from ten thousand years ago is dead. What on earth do you want?"

Nangong Xuan was completely and utterly terrified. It was even difficult for him to keep calm under his Grandmaster Boundary state. It was thus clear that Ling Xiao's words had a huge impact on him.

Although it had been badly damaged after the incident1 that happened ten thousand years ago, Longevity Supreme Scripture was the orthodox teaching left behind by Longevity Supreme.

The complete Longevity Supreme Scripture was a Supreme level cultivation method that could lead to the ultimate pathway of becoming a Supreme. However, Nangong Xuan had merely received a fraction of the Longevity Scripture that contained only the Pulse Unsealing Boundary, True Qi Boundary, Spiritualization Boundary, and Dragon Tiger Boundary.

So, he explored different ways on his own to attain Grandmaster Boundary. 

"Sect Leader, I have only one request. I want to become Longevity Sect's Saint! Please believe that I'm the best candidate for this role!" Ling Xiao insisted. He only took the chance because he knew Nangong Xuan was a man of noble character. He could trust a person who regarded Longevity Sect as everything. 

"Longevity Sect's Saint? How do you know all about this? Nonetheless, your pathway to becoming Longevity Sect's Saint will not be a smooth journey. The Elders would not approve of this, even if I do. After all, you don't have a strong cultivation base, not to mention this disastrous incident you've caused!" Nangong Xuan forced a smile. 

The title of Longevity Sect's Saint was established ten thousand years ago when Longevity Sect was the dominant power. The Saint would be the sole successor of Longevity Sect's Sect Leader. The position would be superior to every legacy disciple and the Elders, bestowing unto the person an authority that was only slightly below the Sect Leader.

In the past few thousand years, the authority of Longevity Sect had progressively deteriorated. Hence, the title of Saint was not given much more priority. Almost no one was aware of this position apart from the Sect Leader.

"Only I can become the Longevity Sect's Saint! The obstacles would be your problem. You're the Sect Leader, I'm sure you would be able to settle this trivial matter. You would have nothing to worry about when I have successfully become the Saint. I'll teach anyone who doesn't accept that arrangement a lesson that they'll remember for their entire life!"

Ling Xiao smiled widely. His sparkling white teeth sent shudders down Nangong Xuan's spine.

What an evildoer!

"Sect Leader, Sect Leader, how should we deal with this evil creature? Please advise!"

Those disciples were clearly baffled when Nangong Xuan and Ling Xiao spoke telepathically. Deng Tiande had no choice but to bring their attention back.

"Elder Deng!" Nangong Xuan fixed his eyes onto Deng Tiande. The latter could not help but shiver under Nangong Xuan's piercing gaze.

"Law Enforcement Hall that wields power to sect commandments needs to be strict and impartial, to distinguish right from wrong. It shall defend the dignity of Law Enforcement Hall, but not one's prestige. Do you understand?" Nangong Xuan demanded in a flat tone albeit the hint of sarcasm in his voice. 

Deng Tiande understood immediately that Nangong Xuan meant to provoke the Law Enforcement Hall, while at the same time wanting to absolve Ling Xiao of responsibility for his actions. Panicked, he blurted, "Sect Leader, not only did Ling Xiao desecrate the Supreme, but he has also injured the senior apprentices when they tried to tell him off. He even spoke rudely and arrogantly to me and you, Sect Leader. This man is a narcissistic, conceited rebel. Please punish him severely and accordingly. Otherwise, I'm afraid there'll be a public uproar!"
