558 558. A Cat who loved Hats

In the sewers,

Hats had been following a repeating sound. ~Where the hell did he go to?~

It had been an hour since he had started looking for Ajax and he was yet to find him. All he could hear were sounds.

But, soon he felt that the sound was getting closer so he ran towards it.

"AHAAA... FOUND YOU!" Hats jumped. But it was not Ajax.

"Owwww...."

To Hats' shock, it was nothing but a small potato-sized puppy. A goddamn spawn of a dog.

"What the hell are you doing here, little runt?" Hats asked the small puppy.

But the puppy was too scared and kept his head hidden between his paws. He was shaking in fear too. It didn't look like anything other than a simple furball in this position.

Hats sighed and went close. He patted the puppy with his paws. This only made the puppy make squeaky noises.

"Look up, kid." He said.

But seeing the puppy still not moving, Hats used another way. "If you don't get up then I will eat you. Do you want me to eat you?"

The puppy slowly lifted his head and peeked at Hats. His face looked colorless in fear.

"Bow?"

"Yeah yeah, I'm not gonna eat you. I'm on a strict milk diet these days. Anyway, what are you doing here? Where are your parents?" Hats inquired.

"Bow bow... Pow bow..."

"Ah, you dumb dog-child. They weren't playing hide and seek with you. Those kids threw you into the sewers and closed the lid off because they didn't want you. They aren't looking for you either. And since you don't have a mum, how are you even alive?" Hats inquired.

"Bow bow..."

"*Sigh* So rats scare you and you've been eating cockroaches here. Kid, you won't survive one day out of these sewers. Anyway, tell me the way to the Devil's Cafe." Hats ordered him.

"BOW!" the puppy energetically barked and proudly led the way.

~Thank god, I can finally get out of this place.~

Hats followed the little potato-sized puppy. He brought Hats to a wall with a ladder. On the roof was the sewer lid.

"So that's it?" Hats jumped up and threw the lid away. But then he looked back down. At the little dirty furred puppy. His face had a happy smile while his tail waved.

Hats didn't know but this puppy had been in the sewers for a month now and was very depressed. He couldn't find anybody to interact with either and seeing Hats made him very happy, although a bit scared too.

"Why don't you follow me out?" Hats asked.

The puppy tried to climb but fell down again and again. It could only reach the third ladder. But his face still looked happy

*Sigh*

Hats jumped down and grabbed the puppy in his claw. Then he climbed out of the sewer.

"Woof!"

"Okay okay, no need to say thanks. Now you go your way, I'll go my way." Hats put the puppy down and went on his way.

But, after coming a few meters away, he looked back at the dumb puppy stupidly smiling towards him. His face showed utter innocence. The cuteness was a plus too.

~This kid is not going to survive out here. The world of humans is even more filthy and cruel than the wilderness.~ Hats thought.

He again looked at the puppy. Now he had a better view as he was in the daylight. Puppy's fur had gotten dirty and his body looked malnourished.

For some reason, this made Hats remember his own past. Something that had happened a long long time ago. He had even forgotten about it.

[Flashback]

Hats was a normal neighbourhood cat once. But, one thing that made him different was his wide smile. It used to creep people out.

When he was born, his mother disowned him due to looking too out of the ordinary. He was forced out of the area where his mother and siblings lived. Hats then roamed the streets like a little stray Kitty.

Sometimes, a few good souls gave him food but other times he used to search the trash. His days were filled with sorrow and confusion.

~Why do they hate me? I never did anything bad to them.~ he used to wonder.

But, he kept on receiving hate as the time went by. Some humans even used to throw stones at him or try to kick him. Slowly, they also started seeing him as the bad luck cat and always chased him away. He couldn't even search the trash after that as it was mostly near people's homes.

So, he turned to stealing and causing trouble for the people. He used to steal food and all kinds of things. By far his favourite ones to steal were people's hats. That was because he felt like he was also a human after he wore them. After a few weeks, the people got too angry and planned to kill him.

A full hunt was launched to kill the little kitty. And they were nearly successful. Just when he was caught in a small cage and about to get shot.

A man appeared. He looked old and wise. He smiled loudly and caught Hats in his arms. He caressed Hats as if he were his mother. Hats had never felt this much loved in his life and decided to give his everything to this man. He would even die if it meant that.

"Ho ho hooo... what a cute little kitty? Do you like hats? Well, then I will call you Hats from now on. Come, I have millions of Hats in my home."

Somehow, the man also understood him and took him in. He took him away to a faraway place. Where lots of people called the man, GOD.

His days turned happier since then and he never looked back. He was thankful to God and still remained a bit disdainful towards humans, except for everyone from Phixheim.

[Flashback Ends]

Hats saw himself in the puppy. In fact, the puppy was even better than him as he didn't hate humans. Or maybe he was just stupid but still, he couldn't leave the puppy like this. Not when he had the power to do something.

*Sigh*

~I'm gonna regret this.~

"Kid, follow me." Hats said and also used his magic to clean the dirt from his fur.

"Woof"

The little puppy ran up to Hats on his tiny paws and followed him happily. He barked many times to ask too many questions. Hats was already regretting his decision.

Alexander came to the Curtis house after the whole ordeal at the Devil's Nest. Ajax was fine so they had nothing to worry about.

Izumi had also gotten worried about Alphonse.

"Who knew such dangerous people lived in Dublith. I guess I will have to help the police here. I don't want my children to live in such a place." Izumi exclaimed.

"Teacher, kid?" Alphonse asked. The last he knew, she couldn't have kids.

"Haha, I am healed now. Thanks to Lady Olivia. Ah, this must be Mister Alexander. I am delighted to meet you." Izumi enthusiastically greeted Alexander. In her eyes, now he was god because he talked with Truth and made him yield.

Alphonse looked at Alexander with stars in his eyes.

Central City, Underground

Wrath had brought Greed to Father for his judgment. Lust was also eager for this meeting because it was needed to be decided what would be done about General Universe.

They were now focusing on enlarging their transmutation circle because Creta and Aerugo were a part of Amestris now.

But, the General Universe was now creating too much trouble for them.
