38 The chains

It has been a month since the day Claude killed the glasses man. The manor of the head was built again but this time it was smaller compared to before.

When the people came from the capital city of viscounty. It was said that the glasses man was killed by the beast because of angering the beast. The village chief was arrested in the case of bribery and using his position for ulterior motives. The case was closed pretty easily as the wife of a sword saint was killed. No one, not even the viscount, wanted to anger a sword saint and especially Ares due to some unknown reasons.

Ares had started to train Claude and Eren again. He has not recovered from Ellen's death but after hearing how Claude killed the glasses man, he was showing signs of recovery.

He still likes to stay at home instead of going and doing his duties as the head knight. The soldiers of the village are training on their own and doing their duties. Whenever a problem arises which they were not able to solve they ask Claude's help. After the show of strength during the day of judgement Claude's image has significantly increased in the eyes of soldiers though they still are scared shitless of him. They all came from common origins and most of them had a messy life equal to or greater than Claudes.

Claude at first was not willing to help them but decided to do anyway because if he won't help them they will ask his step father and Claude didn't want to make Ares work. At least for now.

The most change occurred in the village. They were just not willing to become the testimony for the case but were also willing to fight against the officers of viscounty. They have learnt their lesson and were scared shitless. If you ask them now that who is better :- An angel or Claude, they will willingly agree to Claude. After all, for them Claude had a tier 4 beast under his control, along with the Aura of Pride which showed these weak willed people his supremacy.

Claude has been cultivating mana non stop after that day. He only stops cultivating when he trains swordsmanship or while meeting the Flames Roar pride. Except for that he only eats, sleeps and cultivates. He doesn't have any hurry to reach the green core but what he wants is something he will only get after reaching the green core.

Right now he is having a spar with Eren. Eren is also depressed not because of what Claude did with the glasses man but due to Ellen's death. Eren thinks that what Claude did was absolutely correct even though he still had something in his mind.

" What did mom tell you before dying ?" Eren said with dead eyes. Claude was shocked hearing that because he knew that Eren still had not completely believed that Ellen was dead. It doesn't require a genius to understand Eren's expression which seemed to be waiting for a certain someone. For him to say these words were his acceptance over Ellen's death.

" She told me to look after you. You are innocent and soft. You are like glass, hard to touch but easy to break." Claude answered after a few seconds.

" She told me the same thing. She told me to stay with you. There's a demon inside you who can only be kept on a leash if you are near your loved ones. Me and everyone you think of as a family are your chains that have binded you from falling into insanity." When Eren said that Claude was shocked.

After thinking about it for a bit Claude agreed on what Eren said. Even though Claude has his memories of the past it doesn't change the fact that he views things differently. He is always cautious and paranoid. If not for the fact that he is at least believing in some people he might have truly become a cruel demon.

Claude smiled when he realised that Ellen understood it before him. Seems like either you are related by blood or not you can't hide many things from your mother and there are some things which she knows about you better than you do.

" That's why I want you to think about what you said on that day. I won't stop you because I don't want to interfere with your personal life as I am expecting you to do the same for me. I am not telling you to become a fool, I am just telling you not to let the people who love you go and even if someday they leave you, I don't want you to stop trusting people. I want you to have these chains, as many of them, to stop you from falling into insanity." When Eren said that he went towards the direction of the house with the sword master foot technique.

Claude went deep into thoughts. He was having an internal conflict right now. The reason for the conflict was whether he really wanted these chains or not. He wondered whether these chains were good or bad. At the end he decided to think about it afterwards as his father said no one is right in this world, the one who is truly right is the one who is less wrong. He just has to think about the goal, he can think about how he wants to walk towards it while walking on it.

Claude currently didn't want to make his life any more than this. Even though he is not showing it he is still mourning for Ellen's death. He still believes that if he had just done this or that he might have been able to save Ellen. But in the end he can't do anything now.

He went home and after having dinner and coming into his room he decided to cultivate. Today he felt like he would finally break through the brown core rank.

He sat crossed leg and started cultivating. As expected he felt the same block as the time he felt when he was 5 years old.

He added a steady pressure to it while cultivating and finally the block broke and Claude fell limp on his bed losing his consciousness but this time he didn't fight it and let it happen.

When Claude finally opened his eyes he was again greeted by the same scenery. He was standing on the clouds in between Clouds and the sea. The same type of crack opened and a fair skinned, long pure white haired reaching his waist along with his navy commander like jacket appeared.

" Hello Clau–"

Before the man can even greet Claude. Claude went running towards him and hugged him.
