4 Chapter 4

"I can't believe I won," Anna said dazingly, making me giggle.

"I told you so," I replied smugly.

"Yeah, yeah," she rolled her eyes and we both started squealing like school girls.

"I'm so happy for you," I said, grinning as I engulfed her in a bear hug.

"Thank youuuu," she said, as she rocked us left and right.

The ground was now almost deserted as it was just Anna and me as I looked around. We had stopped for her prize. She got a certificate and 10000 dollar check, that'll be deposited on her account. Not to mention the one month internship with Wren.

You mean Mr Hudson? Here goes my mind again.

Yeah, yeah. Mr Hudson. He had introduced himself as Wren, so should I call him by his first name or not?

"Anna?" I heard a familiar voice interrupt my chain of thoughts.

Anna furrowed her brows as she turned and saw someone behind me.

"It's really you, I thought it was someone else," I heard the most irritating voice on the planet say as I groaned loudly.

Please let it not be him. Please, God please. Not today.

I turned and as always, God had no intention of coming to my aid.

"Dixon," Anna said curtly, obviously irritated with the new company.

"You really haven't changed at all," he smirked looking at her up and down, "I thought after breakups girls tend to become more beautiful," he snickered at his own comment.

"Right now, I want nothing more than the licence to kill," she mumbled loud enough for me to hear. I snickered.

"I could say the same thing about you, Dick-son," she replied in a bored tone but with enough menace to drive the point of hatred clear.

"Sassy as ever," our nasty intruder chuckled, "I wanted you to meet someone," he leaned closer to her, "maybe you could try and learn a thing or two," he whispered.

He was making it hard for me to not punch his guts out. I shot him a death glare but somehow he chose to ignore my presence.

"Go away Dick-son, before I knock your teeth out," I said through gritted teeth.

"Back off Tennyson," his glare was on me now, then smiled and fixed his suit.

A girl in a beautiful red dress came and stood beside him. "Baby, what are you doing here? I was looking for you," she said in her sweet soft voice enough to cause him diabetes. Where was she and why didn't I notice her before?

"Sorry darling, I found some old friends," he smiled sweetly at her, seriously it was disturbing to see that smile on his face I so desperately wanted to wipe off, "meet Anna and Grace," he looked at us, his sweet smile replaced with a mocking smirk.

"Your friends?" she looked at us and gave us a genuine smile, "Hello, I am Maria," she offered her hand to me first, making me furrow my brows.

"Grace," I mumbled. Maria beamed at me then offered her hand to Anna. When Anna introduced herself, Maria's sweet smile was gone and she looked at Dixon questioningly.

"Yes," he replied smugly and I saw Maria smirk at him then took a double take at Anna.

"Oh so you are the not so famous ex of his," she said, still smirking, "are both of you together? I heard from Dixon, the reason behind your breakup."

I was all ready to pounce upon that bitch and show her place. It would just take me a minute to snap that flimsy neck of hers. Too bad I didn't have my torque wrench with me.

I took a step forward, all ready to show that bitch her place. She has no right to mock Anna's sexuality. No one has the right to mock anyone's sexuality.

Out of nowhere, I felt someone snaking their arm around my waist, holding me in my place. Now, who the fuck has the death wish?

I looked up at the new intruder, ready to punch the person and found Wren smirking at me. How I wish to wipe that smirk off his face right now.

By kissing him?

Um, no. Maybe. No.

I gave him my best don't-mess-with-me-right-now glare. His smirk only widened and he winked in return.

The hell is wrong with this guy.

I looked towards Anna and found a golden beauty beside her. She had beautiful golden brown locks that complimented her hazel eyes. She was wearing a pinstripe jumpsuit paired with black pumps. A bold red lipstick stained her lips. She was beautiful. Even her aura shouted perfection. What's it with people jumping out of nowhere?

"Trouble in paradise?" the new girl asked Anna.

"Um, no," Anna replied, and what was that. Is she blushing? Anna? Blushing? Please don't tell me I'm witnessing a live example of love at first sight!

Someone tugged me closer. He held me dangerously close to him and I could feel my heart beat increasing at a tremendously high pace.

"Well, I feel something is wrong Gwen," Wren said referring to the girl besides Anna.

Oh, so her name is Gwen.

"Hey, Maria," Gwen chimed, and looked at Anna fondly, "Do you have some business with my Girlfriend? I must say, Wren and Anna both are fantastic chefs, they might be able to cook something from plastic too, yeah?" she added.

A giggle escaped my mouth at that. I looked at Gwen and she winked at me all the while smiling.

"Yeah, surely Gwen. I wouldn't mind trying that too," Wren chirped in, "Anna can assist me in that experiment, yeah?" he added.

"Um, yeah. Sure," she was still flustered with everything going on.

Maria's small nostrils flared making her look like an angry chipmunk.

"We didn't mean to offend you Mr. Hudson," Dixon said cautiously. As far as I can remember, he wanted to be a chef too. He stole Anna's recipes while they were dating and broke up with her. Anna was devastated. Since then she stopped dating and trusting people.

Seeing her now, all blushing and flushed against Gwen, I guess it's time she should open up.

"Mr. Button-" Wren started.

"Sutton." Dixon corrected, furrowing his brows.

"Mr. Mutton, I would really appreciate it if you'll be respectful with ladies, especially," he looked at me with a secret smile on his face, "someone this special to me."

"Yes, yes Mr. Hudson, it was rude of me, I would like to apologize to Anna and Grace. Me and Maria were only jesting," Dickson let out a nervous laugh but not any of us laughed with them, he awkwardly cleared his throat and got saved by a phone call.

They hurriedly left, with their tails between their legs.

We erupted in fits of laughter as soon as they turned their heads.

"Oh God, that was something," I said, earning a chuckle from Wren.

Anna was still not saying much. I wondered what was wrong with her.

"We didn't get introduced properly. Hi, I'm Gwen," she said, extending her hand for me to shake.

"Hi, I'm Grace," I said.

She turned towards Anna who was lost in her own world.

I nudged her on her side.

"Um, yes?" She asked. God what is wrong with her?

"You okay?" Gwen asked her out of concern.

"Uh, yes. Just a bit disturbed by that," she said waving it off with a smile.

"Ah, I understand. I know Maria, that girl is a total bitch" Gwen said, nodding in understanding.

"It's Anna, by the way," Anna said, finally introducing herself.

"Oh, I know that already, congratulations on your win, you were amazing, you got yourself a new fan today,"

"Thank you,"

I was watching their interaction with quite fascination, they both looked so into each other.

"Damn I am famished. Do you guys have any plans for dinner?" Gwen asked.

"Not yet," I replied since I was sure that Anna had lost her tongue somewhere today.

"That's great. We're just heading off to this restaurant on the outskirts of the city. Why don't you join us?" She asked, her eyes pleading for me to say yes.

You don't even know them enough. My mind chided.

At that moment, I don't know why but my gaze shifted to Wren and something clicked. I know I didn't know them quite well. Hell, I didn't even know Wren's name until morning but it was something about this guy. It was like I knew him all my life though I just met him yesterday.

As if noticing my gaze, his eyes flickered to mine. They held warmth and comfort of someone who knows you too damn well. They held safety and promise. Promise of I don't know what.

My gaze slowly glided to his lips, they offered a big smile that seemed too inviting to resist.

Kiss him.

Wait, what? No. No. Nononono. No.

Kiss him.

As if on cue his lips parted and he took a step closer to me.

Wait, when did he move away?

"Come," his voice was a mere whisper but enough to convince my hazy brain and more than enough to speed up my heart rate.

I weakly nodded my head, not trusting my voice.

Reluctantly I tore my gaze from his lips and looked at Anna. She was already looking at me. She blinked once and I knew she was okay with the idea.

"You can share the location so we can meet you at the restaurant directly," I told Wren, as we walked off to our respective vehicles.

He nodded and said that he would send it on my number.

"So, what's the matter between you and Mr Chef?" Anna asked as she nudged my shoulder with us.

"Nothing," I shrugged her away.

Really, nothing?

"Oh yeah, and I'm Angelina Jolie,"

I groaned at her response. How does she accept me to answer that question?

"I've only met the guy yesterday, not even 24 hours ago and thus gradually, nothing is the matter between us," I say curtly, hoping she would drop the topic.

"I know what you mean Grace but feelings are feelings after all. They don't creep up with a warning beforehand. All I know is that you've been on your own for a long time time. I think, it's time you let someone in," she said, draping an arm around my shoulder and pulling me closer to her.

She's right. After dad, I never had time to make new friends or socialize, let alone date someone. Am I ready to step into that lane? Obviously I can't deny the fact that Wren is attractive but I'm not looking for some fling if that's what he's looking for.

I sighed internally. This feeling business is exhausting.

"Leave that. Tell what was the scene with Gwen there? Um...sure...um...yeah?" I asked her, wiggling my eyebrows.

She brushed her arms away and started rubbing their palms. She's nervous, I see.

"I don't know what you are talking about," she said, looking anywhere but me.

We reached the car and I climbed into the passenger seat and turned towards her.

"You definitely know what I'm talking about,"

"Why did they come to our rescue out of nowhere?" she asked, in an attempt to change the topic.

"No, nope. You're not getting away with this,"

She started her car and we drove away to our next destination. The restaurant.

Much to my dismay she did not answer my question.
