19 When You Wish Upon A Star

[Upper Stratosphere]

Narrators POV

"I wish..." alone with the stars and the moon as his witnesses.

"I wish..." a small voice echoed through the silent night sky.

"I wish.." his hand in prayer as he spoke his plea.

"I wish Sera is here with me..."

As those words were spoken, a magic circle appeared on the ring, and out came a huge beam of light that shot through the heavens.

It pierced through the layers of the atmosphere.

As the light continued to shine even brighter, something unbelievable happened...

"YESSSS!" excitement ruled on our Hero.

*Crack*

"...Huh?"

The beam of light that once so bright now cracked as if it was made of glass and it broke into numerous specks of golden shards, only then for it to disappear.

"...What?" Confusion marked the used-to-be excited face.

"Maybe I said it wrong?... " doubt lingered in his voice.

"I wish QueSeraSeraph is here!"

Another magic circle appeared once again and burst into a beam of light only for it to...

*Crack*

"It can't be..." Fear surfaced in his heart.

"I wish for the whole Angelarium Clan Base to be here"

*Crack*

"I wish the girls were all with me!"

*Crack*

"I wish that Se-"

*Crack*

"I wi-"

*Cra-*

...

After numerous attempts to make a wish...

After countless trials...

Our Hero is once again in the pit of despair.

"...Why?" Tears came running down his face once more.

He looked at the ring on his finger with disbelief.

"Why?..." His eyes became a bit dull. He seemed to be unfeeling.

He clenched his hands so hard, that one could hear his bones crack.

He removed the ring from his finger.

Deep anger is held within his mighty hand and is about to throw away the ring.

Only a bit of clarity is holding him back.

He stared once again at the ring in his hand.

Engraved upon it are three shooting stars that are still emitting a silver light.

Somehow, despite his numerous failed attempts at making wishes, the ring is still glowing.

It seems to signify that it still has 3 wishes ready to be made and yet to come true.

Our hero doesn't understand the inner workings of the ring.

He doesn't know its lore and creation.

All he knows is that the ring, [Shooting Star] is a special rare item that cannot be obtained through normal means such as questing in YGGDRASIL.

It is a Gachapon item, a lottery item that gives out limited-time rare items for players to obtain.

That was why it was so precious to him.

He doesn't know how much Sera spent on the game just to acquire such a ring, only to give it to him.

Not only that, the [Shooting Star] is a magic item that can grant wishes.

As far as he knows about the YGGDRASIL game, the spells that the ring could grant are within the confines of gaming logic.

It could grant the user's wish by manifesting a spell within the system.

The super-tier spell imbued within the ring, [Wish Upon A Star], consumed a percentage of one's experience points to randomly generate an option for a wish. The number of possible wishes that appeared would be proportional to the amount of consumed experience.

Some wishes appeared more easily and wishes did not appear so easily, therefore it was horrifying magic where any carelessness could make the user waste a lot of experience.

The wishes one could make when casting [Wish Upon A Star] from the ring were randomly generated, much like the original spell.

But in the Anime and Novel from Overlord was different.

The ring's effects had changed with the transfer to the New World. It was now a spell that would grant its caster's wishes. It would still expend EXP, but [Wish Upon A Star] was now a spell that could make the impossible possible.

"But I'm more than willing to sacrifice as much EXP just so I can see her..."

"How come all of my wishes didn't come true?"

Is belief, desperation, intentions, and even faith not enough?

Was there a limit? a criteria? a price one has to pay for one's greedy wish to manifest?

Our hero descended slowly from the skies to the barren soil.

His ethereal wings hidden as if in toil.

Tears still falling down his cheeks, face full of turmoil.

His eyes shined from tears like gems of golden hue, so deep like ichors brew.

He knelt with his hands in desperate prayer.

Our Hero spoke in great surrender.

"I... wish..." He paused in silence, deep in thought.

"I wish she is well..." he spoke with a silent smile.

"Far from the tragedies on the Earth, she dwells"

The same magic circle appeared again

"That she gets to eat all that is good..."

A bright light once again pierced the night sky.

"That she enjoys as she should..."

It shone brighter than it did before.

"That she does not tire from work..."

The ring on his finger began to shake.

"That she is kept safe from the dangers that lurk"

The light became more intense, more vibrant.

"Let her be surrounded by the warmth of her friends..."

A star on its engraving is slowly losing its shine.

"That she may stand, not break nor bend"

The beacon of light shot through beyond the horizons.

"May her dreams come true from now till the end"

In the presence of witnesses seen and unseen.

"With this wish, I declare my commitment to you."

Our hero made a vow.

"My lovely, sweet Sera..." a broken smile adorns his face with tears like rain.

"Through lifetimes and dimensions... I am yours, and I, you"

"Today, tomorrow, and forevermore... I'll be here waiting for you"

And with those words, he was done.

The light that shined so bright did not crack, unlike the previous ones.

What made it different? We will never know.

It seems fate still has a lot in store.

Ainz's POV

"That should be enough for now"

*Sniffles*

"Crying all night won't make her magically come back"

*Slap* *Slap* *Slap*

I slapped myself again 3 times to not lose focus.

I wiped my face covered in tears, snot, and sand using my dark cape.

I looked around myself.

I was once again, in the middle of the crater.

I checked on my [Map], only to see it has been updated.

The great island continent and the vast sea I saw during my sightseeing in the sky are now depicted on the screen.

"I don't remember the New World having this form of great land mass?"

"Did something happen? Is this supposed to be an AU or something?"

Confusion reigned in my mind.

I unleashed my wings once again to fly through the sky.

I set my eyes on one of the beaches on the far north of the island.

It seems to be bustling with life as the lights on the shores show.

"Time to do Mission No. 1: Reconnaissance!"

-----

[Meanwhile, on World of 2138...]

A bright light from the heavens, shot through the smoggy polluted night sky towards the dark murky earth.

It remained unnoticed through the eyes of man and technology alike.

The bright light carried a vibrant and pleasant glow.

A white feather seems to be the one guiding the light's journey.

To where might it be heading?

No one knows as no one seems to notice the contrasting sight of light and dark.

But it seems to be heading straight to the sleeping figure of a frail woman in a decrepit home.

Hello! Missed me? (◕દ◕)

I'm so not sleeping tonight with you guys on the watch! ಥ_ಥ

Many of you are going to haunt my dreams tonight for sure so I better keep my eyes open (⊙_◎)

And of course, I would like to thank the Academy for this award, the 'Best Dramatic Author Award'. I am truly humbled. Thank you so much ( ꈍᴗꈍ)

What do you think of today's chapter? Any suggestions? violent reactions? comment and review them all cause I welcome them all~

(~ ̄³ ̄)~

Anyway, thank you once again for the supporters of this work! Thank you for the positive reviews, the threatening comments, and the abundant Power Stones! (◍•ᴗ•◍)❤ You guys have truly outdone yourselves.

Hope you like it!

(Quick question: Do you want me to remove the Supporters List? or just put them in a column of 2 or 3?)

Some of you may think I'm doing it for the word count, but I really do appreciate each and every one of you who has given me their support.

It may seem frustrating to see the list occupy almost half the chapter length but just know that I keep my word count by at least 1k-2k words per chapter and I don't think that's gonna change for a long while. (─.─||)

As much as I want to be more descriptive with the ambiance and the setting of the scenes, it's really draining my remaining brain juice where I can't focus on my review but on making a chapter instead! ಥ‿ಥ

Besides, I'm a reader myself! I tend to skim or even skip important details of a chapter just to get on with the flower garden and go straight to the fruit farm (which are dialogues, that I truly enjoy (◍•ᴗ•◍)❤)

I'll edit the Supporters List in this chapter after I hear your thoughts about the list.

Have a great day!
