10 Trip Home, Start Subracting

Through the night, the expedition seemed bumpy, and though the cars showed night and thermal vision on the windows, after the sun set down. It still made for a dark and hard drive home.

A few hours went by, John glanced down to his speed, seeing it read one hundred forty-eight miles per hour. He was also watching the radar on the opposite edge of the windshield from the velocity. He saw nothing other than Greags vehicle showing up behind his. So far, everything was going well.

John peered at his GPS on the window, reading the distance they had left.

"Only forty-six miles to go" he communicated to the others.

They greeted him back with "Woohoo, almost home bitches." Which was accompanied by laughter.

A few more minutes went by, Sean radioed over to John.

"John, I've been wondering this, and I think Greag has been too, but how is it you suddenly know how to do all this? Like you knew how to kill both those creatures and the one you took it down so fast we could barely see you move."

John stared at the windshield as he thought for a moment, and then replied.

"Honestly, you guys.... I don't know. It was like I knew it all along. The weak spots how to fight all of it."

Only silence returned.

John saw that they were only 20 miles (32.19 km) from the base. As he went to announce this a warning displayed across the windshield, and a red blip showed up on the radar. Then another, and then several others. They were galloping toward them. Sean shouted over the transmission.

"Fuck we got company you guys. We're not losing any more people." The passengers in the back of John's car were shaking and praying.

They put the pedal to the metal on the cars, speed climbed. Greag looked down at his momentum and yelled over the radio.

"Holy fucking tits, were going one hundred sixty-two miles per fucking hour and climbing. Woooooooo." John had noticed they were losing the blips from their radars and said to the patrons in his ride.

"We're in the clear."

In a split-second, it sent John's car soaring and flipping through the air, crashed down onto the ground, and then began rolling uncontrollably. Casting one passenger out from the back end side window and landed face-first into a nearby rock. It contorted her body into itself. Her feet were bent backward and touched the rear of her head.

One of the roller creatures that was awaiting underneath the ground in front of them, hopped out from its pit. Greag noticed this and cut his wheel to the left, back towards John, sliding across the grass and almost losing handling of his vehicle. Finally, after he gained control, he sped back over to John. Taking notice of a roller standing right outside John's car. Growling and drooling as if it was pissed. It was showing signs that it was about to smash onto the automobile. Greag could see that John appeared to be unconscious, and that his remaining two passengers seemed either paralyzed or dead.

Greag drove straight at the Roller, the creature not acknowledging that he was coming for it. He smashed right into the rear. Metallic plates were projected in all directions from the site. Its blood splattered, and its body was tossed into the ground. Greag, dazed, hopped out of his automobile. Looked back to see all the people in his car were ok, walked to the roller and inspected it.

"It's dead." He shouted back to Sean.

Realizing that his ride only had minimal damage, including a dented bumper. He then ran over to John's car, noticing that John was already recovered and trying to get out of his car. All of his passengers were unconscious or deceased. He looked over to his left to spot the remains of a mangled lady's body, that was smashed against a rock. After being thrown from the vehicle, it wasn't much to look at. John was inspecting all the people from his vehicle, dead. No one had survived the crash other than him.

"They're all dead" John shouted back to Greag.

Let's get out of here before more of those Roller things arrive.

They walked over and loaded up inside the only car that was left and sped off like a bat in hell. With Greag driving, they hit nearly every bump in the road, and could not see any further than what the night and thermal vision from the auto windshield could display.

"We're almost there now." Greag announced to everyone, fatigue present in his deep tone.

"The GPS is saying that we're only a few miles from the base." He continued, followed by a yawn.

John took off his helmet and talked to the civilian passengers, attempting to comfort them.

"Well, I'm sorry we never introduced ourselves to you, guys, I'm Sergeant John Stewart. We're almost back to a safe area."

He stared at them, waiting for a second to see their reactions and continued.

"So tell me about yourselves. What did you do before this whole thing happened four years ago?"

One kid started to talk initially, but rapidly as if he was nervous.

"I was in summer school when this all happened. The cops came in and escorted us all out of the building to a safe area. I found that my parents were killed shortly after the attack first happened."

As everyone was conversing, Greag pulled up to the front gate of the base and radioed to command to have them open the door. The large metal blockade swung free just as. He drove in down a deep passageway, bright lights illuminated the area on both sides of them as they went in. The door closed behind them, quaking the ground as the gate slammed shut.

They traveled down this long corridor until they arrived at what appeared to be a courtyard. There they saw soldiers positioned in every corner, behind turrets and sand bunkers. A soldier was up ahead of them, waving a light wand, motioning directions for a parking spot. Greag drove over to where he was aiming and parked there.

He shut the vehicle off, and everybody unloaded out of the car. Each one stretched his or her fatigued and tender muscles and accompanied behind the soldier to a metal man door. They had to stand by for the door to swing open and pursued behind the guard through the new pathway.
