12 Mission That Changed Everything

Just as the general had told them. It gave them everything they wanted for this mission. Sean and Greag went hog wild, especially after they were allotted the opportunity to scrimmage inside the secret weapons department. John went a more subtle way. Greag suggested to John.

"John you should get a machete again, and it seems to fit you well."

John looked at him, smiled followed with a slight chuckle. He took his advice and grabbed a blade. Knowing that he was correct.

Everyone loaded up into the vehicles and got prepared to go. The general walked over to the guys and asked.

"So, you only want to stick with your normal squad I see. Well, I think you know what you're doing. Do you plan on using the gunships or needing any air support?"

John, while he was still putting on his armored shoulder pads, glanced at the general and said.

"I'm going by car, but I would like to have high altitude bombers in the air for support, and can I request an armored tank sitting in the rear for ground support?"

The general looked at him with amazement and replied.

"Whatever you need, we will supply it. They limit us on the man power, but you aren't asking for much, and you seem to know what you're doing."

The general turned and walked away.

"Load up you guys."

John ordered out loud to everybody, as he was putting his helmet on, and stepping into the driver's seat of the first car. He grabbed the key, twisted it and cranked the motor over until it started, hearing nothing but the slight rumble from the engine as it purred, and the whistling turbo like sound. They all put their automobiles into drive and lined up in front of the large metal gate. Everyone paused there and waited for the operator to announce the ok. Once the door swung open, they each punched the gas in a race. Smoke was fluttering from the tires, as they were burning out on the concrete floors.

The two cars went racing through the door, down the long corridor and out on the road. Everybody watched as the bunker inside the mountain disappeared behind them. John radioed to everybody.

"Keep on me. We're doing this fast and strong. It seems to work best. Now keep your fucking eyes on those radars."

They all reached the control board on their armrest and loaded the coordinates they had received from command to the GPS on the car and drove off into the sun.

***

John began to question after driving for a few hours.

"We should be arriving soon."

John radioed to Greag, We're only a few minutes away according to this?

They arrived shortly after him saying that, to a large dilapidated town, with nothing but dust blowing through. They saw buildings half demolished and deteriorated apart. Old rusty cars that were scattered throughout the streets and backyards, some which were tipped over and smashed.

"Damn this city looks like they hit it hard." Sean uttered over the radio.

John replied over the transmission, "Yeah I see it looks like they must've been one of the first cities to have been attacked. I don't even see any dead bodies or skeleton remains anymore."

"Hey watch your corners you guys, it's getting tight in here." Greag announced over the radio, his voice filled with unease. "We will drive in as close as we can. Then we must continue by foot. Once we get to the school, we'll secure it and wait for the tank to arrive. We have high altitude bombers above waiting for orders." John radioed commands to Sean and Greag.

"Let's hope to fucking god that they don't accidentally bomb us, like how you see on the movies." Greag joked back.

"Shut the chatter we're here." John responded to everyone.

John slammed the brakes on his automobile, and came to a gliding stop, with soot kicking up. Greag came flying in past him and stopped hard, dust was tossed up everywhere. His tires screeched from drifting across the blacktop surface. John stepped out from his car and glared at Greag, as he waited for him to get out of his drivers seat. As he emerged, he looked over to John with a smile from cheek to cheek. Only to see that John was shaking his head in disappointment at him.

"Dumb ass." Sean shouted out to Greag. Knowing that was indeed what John was thinking too.

"Ok enough horse play you two, let's get this job done." John snapped.

Both quickly became serious, grabbed a hold of their weapons, and followed behind John as he started to stride towards the school entrance. As John stepped up closer, he acknowledged that the mirror doors had the glass shattered. They stepped in through the entrance, and their radars on the heads up displays, located inside their helmets went haywire.

"According to our radars, there's something all around us right now." Sean announced.

"I know I see this. Keep your eyes open. There's got to be a reason for this." John answered back.

He signaled for his squadron to investigate the separate rooms down the hallways. John himself proceeded into a different chamber, down the corridor on the left sector from him. His rifle pointed out in front of him in alertness for anything that could pop out at him. He paused, when he picked up a startling noise coming from the room, and as he watched a shadow from around the entrance. He paused, so he could collect himself and then hopped up to the opening cautiously, with his rifle trained in front of him in bracing. John took a breath and stepped in the head of the passage. Inside he spotted two women holding on to a few children in fear.

"I found some kids and a few women here." John called over the radio.

Only to hear Sean and Greag both reply they discovered individuals themselves.

"Let's get everyone to the main lobby. We'll get everyone accounted for, and then we'll figure out what we'll do next." John ordered over the radio.

John twisted and looked at all the people that faced him and instructed them.

"Follow me."

He spun around, danced to the door, and stepped around the corner. His eyes scanned back and forth, inspecting outside the doorway before he exited the suite. He proceeded down the corridor to the lobby that they first entered through.

As everyone conglomerated to the center, John was counting the number of individuals.

"Well it looks like we're going to require a bigger ride." He jokingly suggested to Sean which was standing next to him.

"Command we need pickup at our position. There's more people than expected. So send an aircraft for about two dozen passengers." John radioed.

He only picked up a muffled, static, gurgled response return. He continued trying to hail them, but their feedback only showed to come back distorted and unreliable.

John stepped over to the officers and asked them.

"So what the fuck is going on with my radio signal out here, we've been sent out to get you guys. They said your reconnaissance is crucial, and that you have info on these things. And now we can't seem to get a hold of command to pick up more transport."

The soldiers' faces turned pale, fear was stricken within their eyes.

"These soldiers know something." John thought to himself.

"What the hell aren't you telling me? What the fuck have we gotten ourselves into?" John barked at the officers.

They looked at each other and instructed John to follow them to a quiet area. As John agreed, he hand signaled for Sean and Greag to keep an eye out, and followed them into a nearby classroom. After closing the door behind him. John turned to the others and roared. "Okay. Now you better talk."

The tallest soldier in what appeared to be a gray officer's uniform, stepped forward acting as if he would say something, but held his tongue. The other soldiers also kept their mouths shut, as they stared off in space in suspicion. John impatiently yelled at them. "You better start speaking up right now. If you have any information on what every the fuck is going on, then you better say it."

His veins protruded from the sides of his neck and head. The officer looked up at John, and seen his anger, he opened his mouth and said.

"Ok I'll tell you, but this information is tier one top secret. I could get court martialed for telling you this These creatures are not what we think they are. I don't know the details, I just know they're not this alien race or anything we thought they were. We have a team of secret scientists working to discover what these things are and their weaknesses. We've found them nearly impossible to kill, but they can die; and they are an ancient group of creatures. This one scientist has evidence to show they're an ancient group of beings from the gods of an ancient race, and their only motive is the balance of the universe or some shit like that."

He was looking at John, seeing the confusion that was plastered on his face and continued on.

"I know this is hard to believe, but this is one secret that's been hidden from humanity for thousands of years. Earth is not the only or even first place humans have been too. There's so much more to all of this. The last thing is there are also these god-like creatures and those things are their warriors."

John was speechless, with a dullness left upon his face. The officer tried to continue, only to have one of the other soldiers stop him.

"No, don't tell him anymore. I will tell you, the radio thing is the reason we're all still alive. There is a blocking tower for long range radio transmissions in the center of town. You have to destroy that to send out your radio signals. Again. It is the thing that's protecting us from letting those fucking creatures from knowing where we are. They seem to be able to listen in on our long range radio signals. They're more intelligent than expected and like our officer said, they are invincible. They just don't die."

John stared at the soldier for a moment, as if reading into him, and replied.

"That's a lie, I've killed several of these things already. That's why they sent us."

He paused. The soldier's eyes grew with anticipation, he continued doubtfully.

"I guess we're the best they have."

The officers stared at him with an utter surprise in their faces. Their upper brows raised

With nothing further to be revealed, they all retreated from the room to the central lobby. John shuffled over to Greag and Sean. Hauled them off to the side, aside from the other's ears, and whispered.

"So there's a lot more to all of this than we could imagine.... But I found we need to get to the center of the city to shut off a radio blocking device. They said it is the only thing protecting us, from those creatures from learning where we are as of now though. We require the crafts to get everybody out, and can't do that without the radio."

Sean replied, "It's a risk but I agree. So let's go do this. We can use the soldiers' help while the others remain obscured."

He looked at John and then to Greag, and saw the perspiration stream down the sides of their faces. They both nodded their heads yes.
