6 Join

John's eyes popped open. Only to see the bright lights as he awoke. He threw his right hand up to shroud his face, to block out the blinding light. He waited for his eyes to readjust, and he lowered his palm. His eyes switched back and forth viewing all around, as if it puzzled him about the situation leading on.

Sam already lying next to him began to whisper softly.

"John, wake up. We've been going around talking to everyone. I guess this whole thing seems to be everywhere, and that there is a resistance against them. They're rallying up people to join."

As she stared at him, her blue eyes twinkled. John still fatigued and stuck inside his mind, not paying any attention to a remark she communicated to him. Which did not take her long until she became annoyed with him.

"John, did you hear what I said?"

John looked at her sleepily and answered.

"No hunny, I'm still waking up. What the hell is going on?"

Sam glanced at him as if it offended her. She rolled her eyes and again proceeded.

"I said we've been talking to some of the people here, they told us that this thing seems to be going on everywhere. Nobody knows what happened fully or what those things are. They also told us that the resistance is accepting anyone who wants to join."

John laid their showing signs that he was pondering. After a moment of silence, and with a dull face, he peered up at her, and in a rather bitter tone challenged her.

"Well are you asking if I wanna join or not?"

She glanced at him as if she was hurt and responded, "Noooo. Everyone else wants to, I don't want to and I don't really want you to either, but it's your choice. I'll be ok with your decision."

After a few seconds of thought, John leaned in, planted his lips against Sam's, stared at her and told her, "I'm enlisting."

***

A few days after joining the resistance military, they had the regime beginning to suit up and start their training. The service worked in a hurry and moved fast in their process.

Sean and Bryan didn't take long until they started to complain about always suiting and unsuiting, and about the strenuous discipline management they had to undergo. But after a few weeks of doing this all the time it would get to be annoying.

Within a few moments in, they began their weapons training, maneuver drill and fighting style exercise. Strangely enough, corporals and sergeants took notice of Johns' skill, for he seemed to be a natural fighter, a marksman shot, and already knew how to react. He was advancing much faster than anyone else in his platoon. The colonels gave him the squad leader rank. As he prevailed and proved himself, he attracted the leaders' attention. His squad and he were strenuously tested, and put through specialized tasks, prevailing and breaking all company records. Gaining the generals' approval.

As their graduation came closer, they promoted John in status several times. By the time of graduating they ranked him a sergeant. The rest of his friends all stayed privates, and at John's request, were placed within the same squad as him. Now behind John, Greag showed to have the most expertise, while Bryan and Sean were about equal in competence. They even showed to complain equally.
