1 The start of a fire

The busy night streets were filled with people at different stalls and kids running around, men and women were behind the stalls, chanting over and over to get the attention of customers that were shopping. The sources of light were the poles that had fires burning furiously at the end, and at the very centre was a large fire-pit on a large wooden platform. Guards were placed and every stall keeping watch on the activities around the market area, from a balcony a young girl gazed down at the sights of the people. Her eyes lit up and reflected with the light down there where everything was busy and people were in a bright mood, her mouth formed a longing smile as she watched silently. She was surprised by the sudden noise of a knock at her door but she chose to ignore it and go back to watching, "princess, your mother the queen is here" she faintly heard, her eyes lit up again smiling brightly. Just as the girl was about to go inside, the loud noise of yelling interrupted her attention walking back to look down at the market place where she had been observing. She gazed down with concern to see guards going to the platform, some waited at the bottom of the stairs while others went to the edges of it on the ground. The young girl noticed that people either started running away from the market place with a look of fear or gathered in front of it with rage or cheers, the sight of this confused the girl. A cart pulled up right in front of the stairs and guards dragged out about ten people, young and old in front of the fire pit. Some of the people screamed while others cried and struggled. Some people in the crowd yelled in anger while others cheered in happiness. As a guard started to speak to the audience of people, a pair of hands were placed on the girl's shoulders startling her. She turned around to see her mother frowning down at her, "this is where you were, why are you out at this hour honey?" the woman asked in concern, the young girl smiled and pointed down at the market place, "I was watching the people mommy" the girl replied brightly. The woman stared down at the crowd of people and sighed, "Come, we have to go back inside it's your bedtime" her mother said covering the view and picking up her daughter starting to walk inside. However before her mother closed the balcony door, the girl peeped behind her shoulder to see a guard turning to one of the people on the platform and watched as the person backed away in fear, it confused her. As the girl was placed on her bed she looked up at her mother frowning, "why were those people the guards took out of the cart sad mommy?" the girl asked as she climbed under the blankets of her bed, for a long time her mother stayed silent staring at her warmly. Eventually her mother smiled, "even though I wish you could know what our world was like before, unfortunately you will need to learn that tragedy in the future..." Her mother replied as she untied her daughters tied up hair. The girl tilted her head in confusion, "what does tra-jetty mean?" the girl questioned with curiosity gleaming in her eyes. Her mother sighed smiling "how about I tell you a story about what our country used to be like?" the mother asked stroking her daughters head, the girl's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "Yes please!" the young girl replied giggling with excitement and anticipation, her mother smiled adjusting herself on her daughter's bedside. "Years ago, this country once had species of all kinds living together, playing together and even worked together. The many kings and queens all ruled together as one for many years after they united all the species together, I was one of them." She started. "Really? were you one of them mommy?" the girl asked sitting up, "yes, each of the kings and queens had magic and special abilities that were...special. The gods gave them incredible powers different compared to their own kinds abilities, the strongest out of all the kings and queens was your father, but one day, your father got sick and changed" the mother said frowning. "How come? isn't daddy healthy?" the young girl asked frowning, "he became sick by...never-mind, I might tell you when you're older, anyway when he finally got better he split up the kingdoms and made our home the empire. Families and friends were then separated and people became sad," the mother explained with a sad smile, "I don't like that story…" the girl pouted with tears in her eyes as her ears drooped. The mother smiled and patted her daughters head and laid her down on her pillows, "I don't either, but you can change it all…it will be hard, but just remember that if you never give up and always stay strong my dear sweet Misty you can change everything" her mother said kissing her daughters head. "goodnight mommy..." the girl smiled as she covered herself more with the blankets, "goodnight sweetie..." she replied smiling. The mother waited until young girl fell asleep, she stood up when she finally slept heading to the door. "I won't tell you the full story yet but once you are older I promise…i just hope that your story won't end up in such a sad way either..." her mother said as she quietly left the room closing the door softly.
