1 Chapter 1- The Day of the Demon

She shot up, eyes wide in shock. Those nightmares would never stop. Those images of demons in her mind... she shook off the thought. As she ran her hands through her dark red hair, she looked up at the calendar. April 17th. The day of her familliar summoning. How had she forgotten?

She leaped out of her bed, rushing to her wardrobe. What to wear, what to wear... ah-ha! As she grabbed the pale green dress, she slid on her scratchy tights and fastened her tight corset. As the dress slid onto her tanned body, she looked in the mirror. Her golden eyes shone back at her, nicely complimenting the dress and her hair. Slipping on her nicest shoes and headband, she bounded out her bedroom door. Today was the day she had been waiting for for a long while.

Waving at her roommate hurriedly, she rushed towards the kitchen. The woman seemed to smirk at her. "Hey, Berry, you forgetting anything?" Berry looked back at her, eyes confused. She laughed, "You don't work today, hon, and the event starts at midnight. It's only 8."

Groaning, she looked over at the clock. Seeing the time, she sighed, sulkily walking towards the kitchen. "This is why you need an alarm clock in your room." Berry looked over to her in scorn. "But you do look pretty for getting up so early."

Berry blushed at the compliment. Not the time for flattery, but it seemed to work. As she calmed back down, she wandered over to the living room, flopping onto the couch. Her partner came over, putting Berry's head on her lap and started to pet her hair, untangling the oddball curls.

"Well, since you are up... can you do me a favor?" Berry looked up, already knowing what she would say. "Okay, fine, I can go tend to the plants." Lifting her head up, she walked out to the backyard greenhouse.

Sighing, she felt the magic flowing through her and extending towards the plants. The plants became well again, the bluebells opening their buds and the sunflowers rising back up. It was simple magic to Berry, really. She'd been doing this for years, ever since she was taught how to. She wasn't a useless witch. Brushing her hands along the smaller plants, she smiled as the lightflies danced around her. Tiny rainbow lights everywhere would cheer anyone up.

Exiting the greenhouse, she noticed the spike trees lean towards her. Must be time for another feeding. She summoned a frog for each of them, gently placing them on the branches. She ran inside as the blood started flying, being greeted to Blink. Blink was her roommate's familliar, a small warlion with horns and a glorious black coat. Petting his horns, she glanced around the living room. Where was she? "Araya?" Berry called out.

Shrugging, she made Blink's food fall into his bowl, which he gratefully scarfed down. She was probably in the shop, since she was running it today. Walking out the door, Berry wandered over to their shop. The House of Plants and Other Oddities. Hearing the door chimes chime, she looked around. The familiar scene made her feel better, seeing Araya summoning storms above rows of plants and dusting the counters nonchalantly. The beautiful rainbow of plants was amazing, even now, seeing the plum purple jokersnappers, the cranberry red firesnaps, and the holographic higapetals.

Araya looked up, "Today is your day off, why aren't you at home?"

Berry shrugged, grabbing her apron. " I wanted to work. Let me live."

Araya giggled, letting her go behind the counter. However, the day was more boring than usual, nothing really happened today. Which was unusual... but it was probably fine.

Finally, it was time for the familiar summoning. Sighing with anxiety, she shakingly bowed at her parents' altar, praying for luck. For some reason she believed something horrible would happen... but she tried to shake off the feeling. It was just her familiar summoning, what could go wrong? She felt a hand brush through her hair. She turned around, seeing a smiling face behind her. Araya. Giving her a hug, she felt her body relax. "It'll be alright, I promise. There's no need to worry." Berry smiled, choosing to believe her.

It was time.

She walked up to the summoning altar. Seeing the cloaked figures appear around her, she concentrated her magic into her feet, feeling the magical energy within the altar. The crowd stood around, people she knew were watching. The cloaked shadows started the chant, causing the altar to light, a deep green glow emitting from it. Berry felt her magic overflowing, she felt it flowing into an increasingly bright light in front of her. Her extension. Her familliar. She could see the shape starting to form. Hooves were visible, as well as horns. Berry closed her eyes, overflowing with power until the light faded.

Silence. As Berry slowly opened her eyes, she was expecting to see a four legged creature of some sort. But this... was something from her nightmares. The demon she had always seen, the one who always looked her straight in the face... was directly in front of her. Everyone was silent as the thing opened it's eyes, one being golden, one being brown. It was her familliar, there was no doubt about that. It looked around, it's height making everyone shake as it bent down to it's short summoner.

"Hello...," He said, in a deep but airy voice, "why am I here? Why did you summon me?"

"Uh... uhm... I am your summoner, yes, but you seem to not be a familiar... you see, this was supposed to be a familliar ceremony... so why are you here?" Berry shakingly replied.

The demon let out a huff. "Well, if that's the case, I guess I'm your familiar."

Berry's world went dark as she collapsed with a thud on the wooden floor. This... was going to be an adventure.
