68 Side Chapter : Daughter (1/5)

So! To make this world feel more alive I have decided to make these side chapters that will show what is going on away from the MC. These will always be followed by an actual chapter so it doesn't feel like I'm just dragging stuff out.

Anyways! I hope you enjoy the little side chapter.

>>>><<<<

It's been several years since I ran from home...

I can't believe all this time I was taught to kill people, to murder them in cold blood by the one who is supposed to be...my father.

While little girls dressed up and played house, I was learning martial arts and how to read people's actions before they could even act upon them.

The first few years of leaving home were rough, I could barely speak a word and even now I find it hard to talk.

It's lonely...

Living on the streets of Gotham has taught me a lot about life, but what exactly am I living for?

Wouldn't it be better for someone like me to disappear?...

Every time I sleep, I can see that man's face again.

I remember every detail of how I murdered him and how it was so easy to take his life...

Am nothing more than a killer?...

>>>>>First Person End<<<<<

The night of Gotham City is always gloomy, it's the time where the filthiest of creatures come out to play.

Humans.

Gotham City is riddled with crime and corruption that it's listed as one of the worst cities to live in even though it's home to one of the richest men in the world, Bruce Wayne.

However, it is also home to one of the greatest superheroes to have ever dawned a cape and he's been doing all that he can to keep the city safe from evil.

A lot of people hate the superhero, but they had to admit that he was the reason why criminals thought twice about doing illegal activities in the dark.

As much as people hate him, there are people that love and look up to him, and one of them happened to be Barbara Gordon.

Barbara was obsessed to the point that she wanted to fight by the superhero's side and with a lot of training she eventually dawned the name Batgirl.

People were surprised to see a woman wearing a similar outfit to Batman fight crime. However, she quickly became a force to be reckoned with, proving to the masses that she should also be feared in the night.

Currently, she was out patrolling the streets by herself on her motorcycle as Batman and his other sidekick was somewhere in Washington DC.

*Vrrooom* The engine of her sleek yet powerful motorcycle roared as she zoomed through several red lights, racking up tickets that she will never pay for in her life.

She was actually on her way to check out a rumor about Penguin being alive.

'The information came from a reliable source, but it doesn't make sense...Penguin was confirmed dead at his lounge. Could someone be trying to pick up his mantle?...' Barbara thought as she parked the motorcycle in the alleyway.

Once she stopped, she'd pull out her grappling gun and used it to get on top of a tall building to get a good look at the place deemed as Penguin's hideout.

It was stupid to leave something expensive like her motorcycle unattended, but luckily like Batman's batmobile it was outfitted with an anti-theft system. The thieves that wanted a big break found themselves either unable to get close or hit with several volts of electricity.

Seeing this made one person in particular curious, an 18-year-old Asian girl with long jet black hair and brown eyes. Her clothes were ragged and old, but it didn't ruin her beauty which in the past made crooked men try to make a move on her.

However, these men were unable to even catch her shadow as she moved with the quickness of a cat. The girl preferred not getting into an altercation, but if one managed to get in her way then....well they were in for a wake-up call.

Today she happened to see someone dressed in a strange outfit leave behind a motorcycle that basically became a miniature fortress after she left. It would be a lie to say she wasn't interested in it, but after witnessing several people being hit with volts of electricity made her think otherwise.

Her attention was then turned on the person in the strange outfit and she decided to chase after them. She had no reason to follow them, but something deep inside told her that she would regret it if she didn't.

And so she followed using the skills taught to her by her father while staying back enough to not be caught.

The person being followed was unaware as she was too focused on her mission.

"Hmm...It just looks like the standard restaurant...but that's exactly how Penguin operated..." Barbara muttered to herself while observing the building several blocks away.

It was a fairly new restaurant named the "Zero Below" which didn't do justice as the place was anything but cold.

It was a two-story building situated near Penguin's last hideout and it reeked of high society. Barbara had checked the schematics of the building before she left on the computer in the Batcave, but nothing stood out, so her only choice was to check it herself.

She could have dressed up in a dress and go in as a civilian, but unfortunately, the place requires people to be 21 or older.

Of course, she could bypass this with a fake ID, but doing that would be illegal.

Well, she's already doing something illegal...

After formulating a plan in her head, Barbara leaps across the rooftops to get a closer look at the restaurant. When Barbara was recovering from her head injury, she decided to give her suit a few upgrades. Her cowl was now outfitted with night vision and an interesting feature that Batman had been working on for some time which he calls Detective Vision.

The feature is helpful when doing things such as sneaking into a supposed criminals lair.

"I think there is an air vent that I can get into right about....here," Barbara whispered as she locates a vent on the roof. She then carefully opens it before making her way down into the dark tunnel.

'It seems like Ethan is still on the lose...Is he really as bad as Batman makes him out to be?... He wouldn't have saved my life if he was a bad guy right?... Hmm, something for another time. I need to stay focus.' Barbara continued her descent into the vents, moving as quietly as possible. She could hear a lot of noise which came from the music and people chatting as they enjoyed their night.

"Nothing so far...Let's go further... wait...I hear something." She muttered as peeked through a nearby vent to see two guards in front of a elevator far from the main area.

"So, what do you think? This place is better than that lounge or whatever you call it right?" One guard said.

"It's definitely something. I'm not freezing my balls off anymore that's for sure." The other guard replied.

"Hahaha...but who would have thought his nephew survived that fiasco."

"You ain't kidding. I don't particularly like the guy, but because of him we still have jobs."

Barbara listened in on their conversation for a bit longer, but only the first few minutes of it gave her information, the rest made her want to bleach her mind.

'So, it's his nephew? To be honest I want to leave it at that, but something tells me that I should go see mor-'

"But you know...whose that creepy guy with the white mask that stays by his side now?"

"Word of advice right now...don't stick your nose into places you don't belong...otherwise...a talon...will come for your neck."

"Is that a threat?"

"No..." One of the guards stopped and looked directly towards the air vent Barbara was in.

"It's a warning..."
