Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me.

"Timun Mas, it's time for lunch. You can continue your reading later."

Miranda popped from my side, taking the book that I held. The Origin of Magic was the name of the book.

"Child, this book is too advanced for your age. Even I read this one when I was in the beginner class."

Since the day of discovering magic, I almost spent my time in the orphanage library. I was also surprised at first, knowing the orphanage even had this place. However, the library was a perfect place for me to research more about this world.

"Nah, earlier is the better. And knowledge is power." I said in a patronizing tone.

"You said it now, child. When the time comes, don't come crying to me that the academy bores you to death,"

I just laughed at Miranda's statement and followed her to the dining room. I did not know what to think about Miranda at first. A nanny? A sister? A friend? It would be weird though for an adult like her to have a toddler as a friend. However, Miranda herself did not see me as a child, but an equal companion.

When she had a problem, she came to me to ask my opinion. Later, she would ridicule herself for asking opinions of a toddler, yet she still followed my suggestion. She also did not coddle me as she did to others. The way her eyes looked at me like longing for someone she long knew. She did not look at the actual me. And that bothered me a bit.

The dynamic of our relationship was that weird. Since our first meeting, Miranda would always appear in my vicinity. Helping me with things I did not need help; giving me full of her attention. Her actions made the other children, especially the older one, gave me a stink eye.

Sometimes, I would only politely nod at her and asked her health. I never asked her anything to avoid the ire of older children. It was not because I was afraid of bullying, but suspected Miranda's real intention. She was too kind to me, an orphan from an unknown origin. Or she already knew my parentage in this world?

So, it was the best for me to keep close of her; keep your friends close and your enemies closer. There was nothing to lose for me. The old matron lady even said that Miranda wanted to become my private nanny. That I immediately accepted. Aside from library, Miranda was my other resource about this world. At least, she was useful, and Miranda offered herself to me.

I finished my lunch quickly and went back to the library. Stacks of books were waiting for me on the table I left before. I was quite a sight. A toddler who barely reached anyone hips sat on the chair with a desk full of books that set high.

What could I say? I was desperate about this world; about magic; about the way to back. I did not want to stay longer in this world. My gut feeling said something wrong would happen to me in the future. The same feeling I got before I transmigrated here.

I continued the last book I read, The Origin of Magic. The book did not state the origin of magic forthright, only told the definition of magic and its classification.

Magic is the foundation of energy that existed in this world. In fact, solar energy constructed by magic here. Because it was the energy, it was not visible. There was an exception though. A human could make magic visible.

Human magic constructed by two types of energy. They were spiritual and physical energy. These two must in synchronize condition for the human to be able to release the magic. When a human released those energies, it would become magic and visible.

'You can't release magic when you die, or one of your energy disabled then,' thought me.

Spiritual energy depended on the maturity levels, the state of minds and emotions of a person. The higher you had them; the higher was your spiritual energy. So the older you became, the higher spiritual energy you had. There was also no heredity on spiritual energy.

Different from spiritual energy, physical energy was an energy that protected human's body from harmful energies. Because it was for protection, physical energy could deflect other energies away.

Physical energy had five types when released. They were earth, water, fire, wind, and lightning release. Your development of type depended on your spiritual energy. There was also another type of releases, such as wood and metal release. However, it rarely achieved. It required for the person to master all types of release. You might not achieve it even if you were already master them all.

'What kind of type will I get, huh?' pondered me.

I closed the book and looked out the window. The sun was still high. At least, I got the basic theory of magic. Then, I put my hand on the next book I would read. How to activate your magic.
