4 Magic Jamming

Huo Ling thought up a plan and went to sleep. Tomorrow would be the third morning of his journey in God's Domain.

After waking up before daybreak came, he briefly ate four loaves of bread and another apple and went to work. He had already printed the layout of this valley in his head. The valley was oval shaped. It was mostly flat but in the middle was a hill around six meters higher than the rest. This was where the rooster was constantly.

Currently, Huo Ling was at the outline of the valley. He planned to use his rope to make a trap bound to a tree. Chicken would walk in a circle of rope, Huo would pull the rope, chicken would get hung on the tree from its feet.

Huo Ling had learned to make basic traps at school so there were no problems making it. Just before dawn, Huo was done and sneaked into the valley to lay the trap as deep into the valley as possible.

Ten minutes later a figure was sitting on a tree branch with a rope on it. He was holding a rope with his left hand, a gun with his right hand and the tip dagger was put slightly into the tree. A dozen minutes later his first prey was caught. The trap worked smoothly and the chicken was quickly finished with its fire extinguished by the Mana Gun and a slash of his dagger.

Huo Ling caught another three in the next two hours. Due to a mana shortage, he couldn't keep catching chickens. Mana would be restored with 1% of your maximum mana each minute. He kept this up for a total of seven hours and caught a total of six chickens. After waiting another two hours he didn't catch another one and Huo realized he wouldn't catch any more chickens that day.

He had absorbed the chickens' blood with the bloodstone. The Bloodstone now showed an orange coloured 84. The chickens didn't come anymore, so he started absorbing all the mana of the bloodstone and made it his own. To convert it to mana or element essence you hold it into your hand. First, insert mana, then form a bubble around the mana inside the bloodstone and pull the mana bubble out. As this was his first time he took ten tries and it cost him a little less than an hour to get dry everything out completely and he now had a Mana pool of 4.36 already fairly close. For the last 16 points, he only needed one chicken if lucky, two if normal and three to four if unlucky.

To absorb element essence one would fuse one's mana with the element essence inside the bloodstone and then retract it. As for warriors, it was the fastest. Just put the bloodstone inside a cup of water and one minute later, get the bloodstone out and drink the water it. Of course, the water would now have a blood red colour but comparing absorbing everything in one gulp to absorbing everything in one hour, it had its merits.

It was close to the evening when he was and he was extremely hungry, so he decided to cook a few of those chickens above a fire. He got a bucket of water from a small stream in the Valley. He then proceeded to make chicken fillets out of the two chickens. He then started a fire and cooked the chicken in a pan of water above the fire. A little smoke wasn't abnormal, where chickens would burn fire and accidentally set something afire.

Huo Ling wasn't dissatisfied with this life at all. He only needed a few more Ordinary points. He had learned that the average person needed twenty days getting one hundred Ordinary points. Knight points were a lot harder to completely fill, with the average being three to four months.

After he ate he went to sleep. The chickens weren't coming here so there was no reason not to. While eating he pondered over what path to take. Warrior or Magician?

'If I choose warrior I'll be a perfect anti-magician if I make sure my mana keeps up a bit it'd be practically perfect. However, my power would be a little lower than other warriors as I put some of my points in mana.'

'If I choose to be a magician, I'll be very vulnerable against warriors, particularly in the beginning.'

'... What about both?' Although Huo Ling thought this he quickly dismissed the thought. There had been some people trying to choose both. For example, there was a person who had invested points in fitness mainly, little mana and solely the metal element. When battling he would make a cover of iron to support him. The result wasn't too good. Magicians could counter him with all kinds of things under which lightning which was the most devastating.

Ordinary to King ranked beasts in the First Layer only had seven elements. Myth ranked beasts might have different elements, though that hadn't been confirmed. The seven elements were: lightning, fire, metal, water, earth, wind and wood.

Huo Ling decided to put Ordinary points into mana and Knight points into fitness. The rest could come later anyway.

The next day he laid the trap once again. He waited on the same tree. In his hand was bread with cold chicken. Huo Ling had cut the chicken fillets which were leftover in strips for later. If he could keep catching chickens he'd be able to hold out at least for another forty days with this eating pattern.

Of course, Huo Ling didn't plan to stay here for forty days. Currently, he was debating if he wanted to try to kill the rooster after he'd finished his Ordinary points. He decided that if an opportunity arose he'd take it and if not, then he would just travel. 'Not all Knights would have four hundred Ordinary subordinates to back them up, so it should be easier.' Huo Ling thought with a grim expression.

Huo Ling was not too sure on what to do after this. He didn't think he could find teammates willing to fight with him. He had upgraded mana, but to use the mana gun in front of other people wasn't a good idea.

During the day Huo Ling caught another two chickens but only got fourteen points. He felt quite unlucky as he was only two points away. Luckily, half an hour later another target appeared.

Huo Ling pulled the rope. The chicken got caught, but it didn't spit a fireball. Instead, it sneezed and lit itself up. This instantly burned the rope and it fell down. Huo Ling could easily finish it off now, but then the chicken let out a shrill screech. Huo Ling swiftly finished off the chicken and absorbed its blood. He could already see the rooster coming at him. The rooster wasn't a normal rooster of course. The rooster was at least as tall as a human and it was constantly lit afire. From what Huo Ling could see it had orange coloured feathers.

As soon as Huo Ling saw the rooster storming at him he quickly grabbed pushed everything in his back and threw it in the cave, it would only help slow him down.

When Huo Ling shot his mana gun the first time he immediately noticed it didn't disintegrate the fireball shot at him, but merely delayed it for half a second. He remembered he could increase the mana he fired. However, he would be able to shoot a lot less. He would have to dodge more causing him to slow down. Sooner or later, he'd be doomed. When another fireball came at him, he shot his gun but this time with double the amount of mana. He saw the mana immediately dissolving the mana foundation for the fireball and hitting the rooster. The fire surrounding the rooster wasn't affected though, as it didn't have a foundation.

When Huo Ling saw this he decided after this ordeal was over, he had to experiment with different kinds of 'Magic Jamming' as Huo Ling had called the skill. Now he only had the 'skill' Dissolve. He had remembered one of the blueprints and although he couldn't see the requirements, nor the cost he had to wait for it. He could see the name though and that was 'Blank Mana Gun Skill'. Unfortunately, it didn't give a detailed description but he knew as long as he had a valid idea he could employ this skill in his Mana Gun. He already had a few ideas though it had to come later.
