6 Elementary Magic

The next morning it was already noon. Huo Ling felt extremely relaxed and in top state after sleeping for over twelve hours. He first ate some more bread with chicken. Although there was not much variation, it was very long sustainable. He also got a reusable cup of water and put the bloodstone in.

A dozen minutes later he had finished his meal and drank the blood red water. Soon though he felt like hitting himself again.

When he put it in the water, it had also given off the Ordinary blood points to the water. Although it wasn't worth amazingly much, it was still money. 'Hais, seems I have to find several bloodstones for different types of points, you can't force specific types out, only a percentage of the total. Maybe the shop has some?' The shop didn't only have blueprints for weapons. It also had a variety of stones, under which only bloodstones were available for purchase right now.

Huo also found the 'Blank Mana Gun Skill Blueprint' and something which rather interested him. It was a sword called Dragon's Fang. It was light brown in colour, unlike other swords he had seen. The sword was single-edged and one meter long. The back was straight and the sword had a curving edge. Together with some marking and a hilt shaped like a dragon, it looked really ancient.

The price was 10 Lifeforce and 10 Knight Slaughter Points. He was curious about both and he proceeded to check at the counter of the guild, he noticed a hologram with different kinds of things. Everything was zero, except for Lifeforce and Knight Slaughter Points. Lifeforce was at 0.19 huo Ling counted his kills and came to the conclusion that Ordinary beasts gave 0.01 and 0.1 for a Knight Ranked Beast.

The valley should have a little more than four hundred chickens left. That meant he'd have around 4.3 Lifeforce, not even half of what was needed. Huo didn't mind killing these beasts, although it was a tedious job, it would give him more food, money and he wanted to lower the numbers of the chickens.

He had noticed that the chickens wouldn't come up the hill, but the chickens near it would never roam as much as the others, staying within 4 meters of the foot of the hill. Huo Ling obviously wanted to find out why the chickens wouldn't come up the hill.

Currently, he had five mana and 102 fitness. From the rooster, he had gotten five Knight Rank, which was average. Right now, he could most likely kill six or seven chickens before running out of mana and having to run. So, he had to improve his equipment. First, he made a new weapon. He decided to use the claw of the rooster, to make a claw for himself. The whole finger of the claws of the rooster was sharp. When Huo Ling tried to use his dagger to cut them off, it failed. Thus, he had to use one of the roosters own finger to cut off the other. After he was done cutting the fingers off, he needed to find a grip.

Luckily, Huo Ling had a good memory and there was a lot of attention in the curriculum to a mix of biology and survival. This included what things to use to substitute things like rope and glue. Huo Ling wanted to make a grip of wood and use the leaves of a special type of bush for glue.

He first made a good fitting grip for his left hand and made three holes for each 'blade'. He glued them together with a 'glue' made by adding water to the mashed leaves of the Spidersilk bush. The wood in God's Domain was a lot harder to the point of it easily rivalling hardened steel. That was the reason no one ordinary brought their own weapons. Simply, they were totally useless. Children with rich parents, however, would be able to buy their child a weapon from one of God's Domains Layers which are considerably better.

After he made the claw and tested it, which made three deep claw marks on a thick tree, he went on to the next thing to do. At first, he had wanted to make a chest piece of armour from the feathers, but he soon had to give up due to the fact he had no way to hold them together. Still, Huo Ling decided to store them in his system.

Huo Ling had tried to store different things in the system's inventory, but his conclusion was always as long as it was from God's Domain, it could be stored. Next, he wanted to make the new skill for the Mana Gun. He bought the Blank Blueprint - which cost 10 Knight Slaughter Points - and decided which of the two ideas he wanted to implement. The first was a lot easier but had fewer usages and the second one was harder and could have a lot of potential in fights.

To unleash magic, you only had to go through two steps in the early stages of magic. The first step was to build the spell itself. Spellfoundations were made of symbols which were called Runes or Nodes. These symbols would usually stand in a geometric form or several of them at the same time. Fireball, for example, fell under level-1 spells and had four Runes. They consisted of four types of Runes: Restriction, Storage, Element and Forward.

A Restriction Rune is a Rune which made sure that the Fireball wouldn't immediately fly off or explode. If this Rune isn't powerful enough, it might cause accidents. It is also usually the first type of Rune created. A Storage Rune is a Rune used to storage the mana and power of the spell. In the last step, one would pour mana into this rune, causing it to overpower the Restriction Rune and 'activating' the spell. The Element Rune is a Rune easy to explain; This Rune will call on the element the spell is made of in the surrounding and absorb it, along with fueling this power with mana out of the Storage Rune. This Element Rune can only be cast by a caster possessing the fire element, as this Rune is made of pure Element. The last Rune, the Forward Rune, is one of a series, the Direction Runes. This Rune directs the spell to a location. In the case of a Fireball, it can only go forward. In more advanced spells one would have free control over the direction, even able to temporarily stop or accelerate. When the Restriction Rune gets overpowered by the Storage Rune, it will transfer the mana in the Restriction Rune to the Direction Runes. This will cause an explosive increase in speed and effectively lift the restriction.

Huo Ling first idea was to use mana to cut the connection between spell and caster, using a mana film. For example with the rooster, he'd be able to put out the fire surrounding the rooster. Without the fire having a Rune Foundation and instead, having a Beast Gear Foundation. The second idea was to use mana to rewrite part of a Rune Foundation.
