5 5:Last day of school

The accident was years ago, yet Alex remembered it like it was yesterday. he saw it every time he blinked, he relived it every night in his sleep.

The cops never found the guy that caused the accident. His mom did her best to keep living, living for Tom but Alex could see the pain in her eyes he could hear her crying at night. it was like someone tore a hole in their lives.

A hole they couldn't fill no matter what, Alex was in class doing his best to stay focused. His natural silver hair cut short and the light seemed to shine in his skin.

His best friend Aiden looked just as bored as Alex. They had been best friends since elementary somehow always in the same classes. Aiden was the smartest guy Alex knew but Aiden had another side to him. He had a wild side yet no matter how wild he got his grades never seemed too drop.

The bell rang and the teacher stopped talking as all the student stood and left the classroom. Alex did the same as Aiden followed they walked the halls ignoring anyone and anything around them. They entered the cafeteria taking there regular seats.

Alex looked around the cafeteria looking from table to table stopping on his old table. Only basketball players are allowed at that table school tradition. "you miss it?" Aiden asked as he saw where Alex was looking. Alex shook his head before turning back to his friend. "what about you?". Aiden thought about it for a second before shaking his head. "It was fun but not what i want to do in the future."

Alex nodded before turning to the table full of only beautiful girls he looked at a blonde they both made eye contact before she waved.

That beautiful blonde made her way away from her table and straight to theirs, before confidently sitting across from him next to Aiden. Alex sighed as he saw her his other best friend Amy. Their parents referred to them as the Trio it had been so since they met in the second grade.

Before Tom died he and Aiden were stars of the basketball team. Days before the game Aiden broke his arm . Amy joined the cheer leading squad to cheer them. Sadly after the accident he quit the team and Aiden did the same. But Amy kept on cheering doing her best to get them to rejoin the team. Aiden seeing her patted Alex on the shoulder "see ya later Lex, I'll meet you at your mom's office after school." Alex nodded knowing things had been tense between Amy and Aiden recently.

"Lex I'm not here about basketball, we're going to graduate this year I was just wondering what college's we're all applying for." Alex sipped his juice while thinking of the best way to tell her he ended up just being blunt.

"we're not." Amy rolled her eyes at his answer "Look I know you're super smart and all but it's not like scholarships are just being thrown your way."

"No Amy I'm not applying for any colleges I'm taking a internship at Downey Industries Aiden for accepted as well." Amy's eyes widened remembering the plan they head both set.

" It's hard enough for me to get into a college as it is, now you both want. to leave me and apply for a internship? " Amy pouted as she glared at Alex.

"Amy we haven't talked in forever ever since you and Aiden broke up things have been wierd. But in case you forgot we had a plan."

"I know we planned to graduate early but" Amy was cut off by Alex.

"no buts you're just as smart as Aiden and me it was your idea to act dumb around everyone else. It's your choice no one is pushing you to graduate early." Alex walked away leaving Amy lost in thought.

Alex zoned out the rest of the school day he released a long breath when he heard the bell ring.

The final bell rang bell rang releasing every student from south side high school. Alex made his way to his locker removing what very little remained inside of it.

He stated at his locker door setting pictures of Amy Aiden and him. Amy had decided every year no matter what lockers they got she would hang pictures of the trio as freshman.

Alex smiled before tearing the tape and removing the pictures. Closing his locker door he saw Amy walking towards him with a grin on her face.

"I thought you had cheerleading practice." Alex swung his book bag over his shoulder.

"I quit" Amy laughed

"You what?"

" I quit you were right I'm done acting. from now on I'll just be me and since i already have all my credits I'll graduate early ." Amy shrugged her shoulders as she wrapped her arm around Alex's.

" I usually am" Alex smiled as Amy playfully punched him in the arm. " No but seriously I'm glad you decided to move forward it seems that The Trio is back together."

Amy frowned at that as she thought about her relationship with Aiden. It was her fault they broke up she spent so much time with the cheer squad she started to neglect him. " Do you think he still loves me?" she asked in a small voice that Alex barely heard.

"He never stooped I've kept him as busy as i could but he does need you we both do." Amy nodded as they both walked the halls leaving behind a part of their lives.

Clearing the last steps and leaving the building Alex felt his phone vibrate. It was a message from his Aiden.

He turned to Amy and sighed she looked at him puzzled waiting on him to explain what was going on.

" I have to stop by my mom's office Aiden just told me he would be a couple minutes late but he'll meet us there." Amy smiled and nodded knowing that the school and office weren't that far apart if they were they wouldn't be walking but driving.

"I never asked but what will your parents thinks about you graduating early." Alex Asked Amy as they walked the sidewalk taking their time.

" They won't mind, actually they'll be quite glad they've been asking me to graduate early for quite some time but i always said no. I wanted to cheer but I also didn't want to leave the both of you behind. We're the Trio well at least until we find you a girlfriend."

Alex gestured to the building as he noticed they were at the office he made his way up the stairs to the door entering the pass code. He opened the door heading towards his Mom's office grabbing her brief case and immediately leaving locking the door behind him.

He saw Amy waiting at the bottom of the stairs smiling as she talked to Aiden. The sound of an explosion a sound that was no doubt heard around the city. The ground quaked as Aiden grabbed Amy just in case something happened Alex swiftly made hos way down the stairs standing next to his friends.

Alex knew that there was a lab a street over from his Mom's office and whatever they were working on something that could potentially change the world . The smoke rose in the sky as Sirens went off. The smoke drifted out as it finally formed into a cloud. Slowly the cloud started to pulse like a beating heart sending out waves of energy that slowly drifted out. But the waves got bigger and the cloud pulsed faster and faster until finally it exploded releasing a final wave bigger than the rest.

That last wave shot out like a rocket as it seemed to be doing its best to cover as much ground as possible. The furthest it got was a block before it slowed to a stop covering anything in sight.

It didn't take long for people to fall unconscious the energy wave affected everyone in a block radius including Alex and his friends. The last to fall was Alex and the energy wave seemed to notice that as it focused on him before pushing all the energy forcing that energy inside his very being his body began to glow blue. His body seemed to be absorbing the energy yet Alex being unconscious felt none of this his body trembled before his breathing slowed and the glowing stopped.
