Chapter 219: The Dangers Of Heroics Part 5

Arias, his face hidden beneath the cold steel of his helm, allowed a smile to creep onto his lips. The girl standing before him, despite her tender years, held a conviction that was unyielding and fierce. She had quickly recognized the futility of their situation, understanding that Kid Flash was beyond saving, and had wisely chosen to retreat. Yet she was shackled by her own beliefs in self-sacrifice.

She believed that her power was a gift to be used for the benefit of those less fortunate, even if it meant risking her own life. This belief had set her on the path of heroism, but she was yet to experience the true horrors that such a path could lead to.

Arias found himself intrigued by her. He saw in her an opportunity to "educate," to shift this alignment of hers in ways that would challenge her very nature.

"What's your name?" Arias asked, his voice flat and emotionless. His figure seemed less imposing now.

The girl, still reeling from the recent events, was taken aback by his casual demeanor. The young man known as Kid Flash was dying in the background, his agonized cries echoing through the air. The scent of blood hung heavy in the air, a grim reminder of the life that had been lost in Green Lantern.

A part of her wanted to plead with Arias to let her help Kid Flash, but she held herself back. She knew that he was beyond saving and that any attempt to move him could exacerbate his rapidly deteriorating condition.

Finally, she managed to muster up enough courage to answer him. "Kara… Kara Kent."

Upon hearing her name, Arias quickly accessed the Leviathan network through his suit and confirmed his suspicions.

"So Clark's unremarkable farmgirl cousin is an alien as well," he mused aloud. "It's not something many would consider, even if they knew his identity. It's almost as if he doesn't want any attention from her."

At the mention of Clark's name, Kara's eyes widened with visible concern. If Arias knew Clark, then he also knew about Clark's earth parents, who had taken him in and helped Kara adjust when she arrived on earth many years later.

Arias noticed her growing worry and could see the deep affection she held for Clark.

"Well then," he said, "this changes my initial plan for you."

Meanwhile, not far from S.T.A.R. labs, chaos reigned supreme on the streets. Panic had ensued following an explosion at the labs, and people were scrambling to get away from the area.

Unfortunately, their escape was hindered by some villains who had been held at the labs. They didn't just want to escape; they wanted to wreak havoc on the streets. Among these villains was Silver Banshee, who was currently engaged in a fierce battle with members of the junior justice league.

Silver Banshee cut an eerie figure with her skeletal appearance and long, flowing white hair. Her skin was a ghostly white, which contrasted sharply with her dark, hollow eyes. She left a trail of destruction in her wake as she moved through the streets with violent and chaotic force.

Among the young heroes locked in combat with Silver Banshee, Miss Martian relayed a telepathic message she had received from Kid Flash. The message sent waves of worry through the team, hitting Robin particularly hard.

"Miss Martian, ask him what's going on!" Robin instructed telepathically, his figure nimbly dodging the large objects Silver Banshee was hurling towards him. "I can't; I can't get through to him; it's like he's..."

"No. Don't jump to conclusions yet. He's probably just unconscious at worst. We have to hurry over, but..." Robin refused to entertain any negative thoughts so soon. However, given the dire situation they were in, it wasn't a stretch to assume that Kid Flash might have encountered an opponent far beyond his capabilities.

Just then, a swift gust of wind swept past them as a figure flew through the air at incredible speed. Superman had arrived on the scene, and without a moment's hesitation, he landed a powerful punch on the unsuspecting Silver Banshee, sending her hurtling into a nearby building.

He hovered in mid-air and turned his attention to Robin. "You and your team focus on evacuating the people. I'll handle things here."

Superman seemed eager to end things quickly, but before he could fly off, Robin quickly informed him, "Kid Flash rushed into S.T.A.R. labs and went silent. I think he might be in trouble."

Upon hearing this, Superman turned his gaze towards the labs. Using his super hearing and x-ray vision, he tried to see what was happening inside. Although his sight couldn't penetrate the deeper floors of the labs, he didn't need to look far to see a horrifying sight.

In a lone room heavily damaged by debris and small fires sparked by flickering lights, he could clearly see the disfigured remains of Green Lantern. Not far from him was Kid Flash, who was in a state bordering on death. His weak heartbeat echoed clearly in Superman's ears.

Without wasting any time, Superman attempted to fly towards the labs but was abruptly knocked out of the air by a powerful green beam and sent crashing into a nearby tower.

"You're finally here, huh?" A voice filled with anger echoed through the chaos. Atomic Skull emerged from a path of destruction, leaving behind devastated streets and numerous victims who hadn't been able to escape fast enough.

At that moment, Hawkman and Hawkwoman arrived at the scene as well. Wielding their maces grandly, they charged at Atomic Skull and hit him in the chest, sending him crashing into nearby vehicles.

Superman burst out of the building he had been launched into just moments ago and spoke urgently.

"Hawkman, Hawkwoman, keep these two busy. I have to..." Without finishing his sentence, Superman zipped through the air at breakneck speed, rushing towards the chaotic scene he had witnessed earlier.

Unbeknownst to him, though, a familiar foe was lying in wait.
