121 Chapter 121: All According To Plan Part 2

After spending a few moments reflecting on his victory, Arias left his office and approached Mercy whose desk was right outside.

She seemed absorbed in her secretarial duties, which was odd given the circumstances. He was sure she knew Lex was arrested as it was all anyone talked about that day.

He was also sure the two spoke so he could only associate her attitude as her trying not to come off as suspicious.

Since she wanted to play the game this way, Arias showed a smirk and played along. Acting as he would usually when about to leave.

"I'm going to call it a day, the markets are in chaos because of Lex's arrest. Now I have to worry about getting investigated because I did mention that he and I might start a partnership." Arias sighed and shook his head as if the situation also impacted him negatively.

If only Lex could see this man lie so freely after all he did.

Mercy was jumpy on the topic concerning Lex, her attitude though remained as feisty as always.

"I don't care about your rich boy problems. Maybe don't get caught next time." Her sarcasm and attitude always entertained Arias, there's just something so fun about putting hardened people in their place.

With her though, his approach was even frightening, as the target he chose was her heart.

Be it words or how to act, he knew enough about her personality to know just how to react and treat her with little room for error.

Whether she liked it or not, she would at the very least find herself infatuated with him and his overall character.

He leaned against her desk ever so slightly and placed his blazer on her monitor, obstructing her view and causing her to frown before he replied. "Well if I'm in problems, who's going to pay you?"

Mercy quickly removed his blazer from her monitor and placed it on the desk angrily while glaring at him. "I don't care about your money."

Arias smiled at her reply and picked up his blazer, turning to leave.

"I know you don't, it's why I chose to keep you for myself rather than give you to Lex. As annoying and unrefined as you are, you're still valuable to me." He revealed in a mild tone before walking away, leaving Mercy's thoughts in disarray.

Although far from a romantic compliment, it was basically the equivalent to someone like her.

As for why he followed this approach, Arias chose the topic of money to use because he knew the few times that Lex got arrested, he left his assets in her name.

And every time he got out, she handed them back without fail. Such loyalty was remarkable and unexpected but the facts didn't lie.

She could have easily taken over his company and refused to hand it back, risking making him an enemy but he also knew that didn't faze her. Because by working for Lex and accepting his assets, she knew many would try to go after her life.

The way her mind operated was truly a mystery. It made Arias wonder if she really did all this out of love for Luthor… or she just enjoyed her simple life and simple wealth, it's not like she was underpaid in the first place.

'What an interesting bunch of people I have around me.' Arias thought as his figure disappeared into an elevator.

He knew it wouldn't be long before news broke of the plane crush and Luthor's death was announced.

As for his assets and wealth, after stealing Luthor's knowledge, a worrisome caution he anticipated was confirmed.

If Lex were to die, his will stated that Mercy would get everything without fail.

Thankfully, all his assets and wealth were already now in her name, otherwise the revelation that he wanted to leave everything in her name may shake her spirits.

The last thing he needed was her getting overly emotional. But as a precaution, Arias took out his phone and logged into Lex's personal network.

Upon confirmation of his death, his will was to be automatically released to the law firm that handled many of his dealings.

So, to ensure that Mercy had no love left for Lex, he first edited the document so that it stated that all his wealth was to go the many children he secretly fathered.

A lie of course but one they had no way of proving. Best of all, this secret was enough to make Mercy hold a great hate for him.

With the funds in Mercy's name, even if lawyers attempt to get them back, they would have no case. And best of all, he knew for a fact that Mercy would sooner die that give the money to women Lex casually slept with.

As for whether or not they could tell his will was edited, they couldn't. Lex's paranoia made him safeguard this closely and his lawyers were aware.

All in all, it was full proof. But in case of failure, Arias knew all of Lex's codes so the moment he saw that things were going south, he could transfer as many funds as he could to offshore accounts.

From top to bottom, Arias's strategy guaranteed that he wouldn't come out of this without some gains.

Like clockwork, just as the elevator reached the bottom floor and it's doors opened, his phone buzzed and a notification that read "breaking news" appeared.

Arias just smiled and knew what it meant so he tucked his phone away and walked out, his blazer cooly hanging off his shoulder.

"Onto to other matters."
