11 Building a base

The design was pretty simple but also quite genius. The first hut which they were building was positioned on top of one of the widest roots around the lake.

It was going out of the ground, growing high into the air and then slowly descending under the ground.

Yuzzem had to cut stairs into the bark of the root to get to this spot.

During it, construction one of the yuzzem was standing out of the group. He was giving out orders to all participants in construction where to go and what to do.

He had orange fur and was little smaller than the other yuzzem. I also saw that he had a big white spot around his left eye.

I approached him. He was really surprised and startled seeing me.

"Oh, greetings boss," He said and lightly bowed. " I hope you don't mind that I'm ordering the look and placement of our future. housing."

"No, actually I'm really pleased. It would be a pain in the ass for me. I was never talented in these things." I laughed. " I would like to just ask how do you plan to build it and I will eventually adjust some things."

His eyes shone with excitement and he immediately started to explain his design.

His plan was to use this first hut as an entrance to our camp and that from this hut would lead only one way into the encampment which would be positioned higher and placed on branches.

For that route, he would ask others to cut other stairs into the trunk of the tree.

He wasn't worried about the plant because scouts recently found out that local trees were really sturdy. There were found trees with big chunks of wood ripped out and all that the trees have done was that they covered the damaged part with a small layer of new bark and continued unaffected in their existence.

In this part of his plan, I had to interrupt him because I had a small reservation and that was the transport of goods because we would have to carry everything on our back to get it up into the camp so I came up with small innovation.

I ordered to have one hut built on the lower part of the trunk so we could construct some moving platform by which we could be lifting up all the materials.

He was surprised with my thinking about the future infrastructure of the camp and altered his whole plan so we could use moving platforms not only for getting materials into the camp but also between individual huts.

By his talk about the upgrade of his design, I realized the planned size of the camp. It would end up with more than 15 huts. That was a really bold plan since the time of the battle was getting closer.

I told him that but he said that I don't have to worry because at that time we will have all required materials moved into the already built huts and we would be able to isolate us from things on the ground and live for some time in the trees without the need of descending.

I thought that he was exaggerating but I kept my mouth shut because it was getting dark and I wanted to know his plan today.

He continued to talk. Mostly about his design for a temple where they would be praying to me and sacrificing things to me.

That part little bit disgusted me because the vision of goat slaughtered just to please me is just too barbaric and also big waste. Because of this, I told to the builder to inform the others that I don't want to see live sacrifices on my altar.

He nodded and understood that I don't want to talk about this topic and rather started to talk about other specialized buildings. Those were a warehouse, meeting square, workshops, living houses and hut for mage's work.

I was very surprised by the number of designs and also for the interior of individual huts.

He started to talk first about workshops. They were divided into working sections with big space and for dispensing part.

At that moment I realized that till now yuzzem were living in some sort of communistic utopia. Everything was for everyone and for free and everyone was equal. It was nice but it was impossible to work once the yuzzem population reaches a certain point. I had to create some currency and concept of wealth.

It wasn't urgent matter at this moment but sooner I make it the better.

I also thought about creating social classes but it would be pretty unfair to say someone "You are now poor and you are now rich and should rule for me." I chose to leave the creation of social classes for the natural process to occur. The capable ones would become rich and the incapable ones would not. But this would slowly happen in next generations so I wasn't concerned for now.

While I was wondering about this the builder was talking about his design of warehouse but I was deep in my thoughts so I wasn't listening and was just nodding. This was my habit gained from school and I was really good at it so he didn't suspect me from anything.

I actually grasped so things which he said and it was just all about the arrangement of various good which would be stored in the warehouse.

From that, we moved to square and then to mage's hut and in the end to huts designed for living.

Everything seemed fine in my eyes so I didn't complain about anything.

Before we finished our talk about the layout of the camp it already got dark. I finally started to pay attention to the progress of the construction just to estimate what will be finished in a time of the battle and I was pleasantly surprised. The first hut was already done and yuzzem were now cutting the stairs into the trunk of the tree.

Before I went to get myself some food I turned to the builder.

" Just out of curiosity, do you have a name?" I asked the builder.

"No, boss. None of us have. You haven't given us any."

"Fine, you shall be from now on known as Bob. That is your reward for what you are doing here."

Bob was so happy that I was thinking if he was normal. "Oh, thank you oh great Gr... I mean, boss"

"No need to thank me," I replied with a smile and inconspicuously moved backward to avoid clawed hug.

I quickly turned away and looked if scouts brought back some food and ended up with the big green berry from the pond next to our camp.

I have eaten half of it and gave the other for disposal. Somebody took it only after we ran out of meat.

After dinner, I was really tired and took blanked from my backpack and went into the hut to sleep. I was really grateful that we finally had some safer housing.

Next day I have woken up to the sound intense work. I was surprised that I hadn't woken up earlier because through the hut were yuzzem often going with materials like branches, reed and some ivy.

I thought that I must have been really tired that I have ignored all that noise.

I packed the blanked into the backpack and left it in the hut.

I went out and looked around. As always there was fog which limited my view. Today must have been a sunny day because of the lighting.

I have seen once again a group of yuzzem working on the construction. But from last time I saw them only part of stairs leading from the hut where I slept was cut into the trunk of the tree but now It was already done and the next platform was being built.

Their speed of work really surprised me and also pleased. This way the plan made by Bob would come true.

Before I could think about what we would build next I was approached by the big black yuzzem who was often working as my bodyguard.

"Boss, I have come to report one injury."

"What happened and to whom?"

"One of our guards was attacked by some big flying insect. His injuries aren't serious but he would be dead if he hadn't called for help and other guards hadn't scared the attacker away."

"Uff, I'm relieved that he would survive. Move him into the hut and ask mages if they can't do something for him. If they can't use some bandages from my backpack."

"Ok, fine I will go and find the mages," he answered and was going to turn away but I stopped him. "Wait, before you go tell me how did the insect look like."

"Yuzzem who saw it reported snake-like creature with big yellow eyes and wings like a dragonfly. It is supposed to be over 1 meter long. It flew away"

"Damm, a flying predator was something that I hoped won't exist in this place. We will have to find a way to repel them as soon as possible."

I let the big yuzzem go and went to find Bob to warn him about this event.

On the way, I unintentionally activated system icons. At that moment I realized that at this time I should have enough faith points on upgrade.

I immediately fully activated the system.

A row of familiar letters showed to me.

[ Name: Grimm

Health: 99%

Mana (Mp): 400/400

Faith points (Fp): 118

Faith points (Fp) needed for upgrade of the system: 100 INTERACT WITH THIS TO UPGRADE!!]

I activated the upgrade and my faith points went to 18 and quite a few new pieces of information appeared in the system.
