9 The last witch

She looked so thin that there was hardly any flesh on her body. Her skin was directly touching her bone, and most of her hair had fallen off.

'How is she even alive in this state?' Lucifer thought as he approached her.

She was wearing a torn off brown sack, and it was impossible to predict her age in the condition she was in.

He checked her status, and her name and race were kept hidden. It was possible for those that possessed special systems to hide or even temporarily change their status. However, to Lucifer, that was only a rumor until this point.

Her HP was 1/3480, and her MP was 1/3520, which meant she was barely clinging to life. Her total bar was incredibly high, so it was apparent that she was someone high-level.

For once, Lucifer wasn't sure what to do here. The question was, what if someone that powerful attacked him as soon as he saved her?

He had heard the story of a man who saved a snake out of kindness, and once it recovered, the snake bit the man instead of being grateful. There was no assurance that this case wouldn't be the same.

While he was thinking about what to do next, the old man walked in and observed her carefully.

"She is definitely not human. If we save her with what's in the wine vault, she might be able to help us get out of here."

The old man showed a purple and green potion. Those were the potions he picked from the wine vault. The purple one was a mana potion that could restore one's magic, and the green one was a recovery potion that could restore one's health.

"But can we trust her?" Lucifer asked what had been in his mind.

The two were still not sure what to do when a rough low voice ran through their ears.

"I... want to live."

In this nation where kindness for no reason was suspicious, where there was hardly anyone to offer a shoulder to the fallen or relief to the injured, which path shall he choose?

"This is a lot unknown to us here, but there is no point staying stuck here. Let's restore her health. Based on her answers, we can then decide if we should give her the mana potion on not."

After hearing Lucifer's words, the old man smiled, opening his arms. His gesture was saying something like, 'whatever you say.'

He then raised her a little bit and fed her the potion. As her HP increased, her hair started growing, and her skin started looking more and more younger and alive.

She was no longer the ugly sight like before. Instead, she changed into an unnaturally beautiful young woman. Her skin was fair, and her eyes were brown.

"How are you feeling?"

The woman ignored the old man and touched her cheeks. It looked like she, herself, wasn't sure what was happening to her.

"I'm alive?"

She looked at her hands, and as she did, tears started falling from her eyes. Lucifer was happy for her, but they were running out of time. The soldiers would reach up to them sooner or later.

"Yeah, but the church guards are coming for us. We need to get out of this place soon. Are you willing to help us?"

"I owe you my life, so of course I will. But before that, tell me what year is this?"

The old man helped her stand while answering her question. "It's the winter of 1671."

"So, it has been more than 600 years…"

More tears started falling from her eyes. Lucifer was confused, but by the looks of things, she was implying that she had been trapped here for more than 600 years.

"What do you mean, lady? Are you trying to say you have been here for that long?"

The woman nodded. "Umhmm."

The old man seemed to have remembered something as he was staring at her with great curiosity.

"Are you, by any chance, a witch?"

"I am. My name is Lunasia."

The old man looked surprised by the response. He started uttering words in disbelief.

"But how can this be? The church eliminated all the witches then, why would they keep one alive?"

"For immortality. Back then, they were experimenting on me. But since they weren't able to achieve any results after hundreds of years, they gave up on it and stored me here."

The old man looked like he finally understood, while Lucifer still looked confused as he had heard of witches only in legends and stories.

"Witches don't age with time. There were few of that species, but they were believed to be immortal unless burned or injured to death."

After explaining to Lucifer, he turned towards the women.

"I now understand why they chose you. Your level is low compared to the others. There are a lot of documents about you in that vault. What level are you at right now?"

"I think 16. I was only 14 when they caught me."

"That makes sense; most mentioned in those documents are level 30 and above."

Right in the middle of their conversation, they heard a loud bang. It looked like they were finally able to break through. Considering their numbers and resources, it wouldn't take long for them to reach up to them.

"Let's talk more once we are free. For now, let's get out of here. It's a shame that we are leaving everything here behind, but we won't be able to get out of here carrying much."

Lucifer prepared himself. He knew that the escape from here would be hard even with her on their side. He wasn't greedy and power-hungry enough to die for wealth.

"Heh! Use your infinite arsenal, boy. From what I know, this should allow you to store anything in your system just on touch."

Lucifer walked out of the room and touched a pile of coins. And upon clicking on the infinite arsenal with his other hand, he was given an option to store.

He clicked on it, and upon doing so the pile of coins disappeared from the floor and was stored in his arsenal as 2453 gold coins.

Lucifer looked toward Michael. He was astonished by the miracle that just happened in front of him.

The old man smiled in response and continued speaking. "Now, go to the gear-shaped icon and activate logging, notification, and suggestions."

He did as the old man said. There were several other options along with those, but at the moment he had no time to test them all.

Once he activated the ones old man mentioned, he could see the status and name of most of the things out there.

There were items like, the moon pendant, sharp slicing sword, ordinary golden knife, and so on mixed with the gold. He could see them all, even the description of wines and potions.
