2 Receiving The Power

As I walked with my class to the auditorium, I couldn't stop wondering what my power would be. Would I get pyrokinesis? Or maybe telepathy? The closer I got to the ceremony the more nervous I became. What if I got a bad power? What would I do? I'd be through! No one would accept me! I would never be able to join the military like my father had!

As we were lining up in the hallway outside the auditorium, the cascade of questions wouldn't stop running through my mind. I was so close to the moment I'd been waiting for me entire life.

After a moment, an unfamiliar teacher walked out of the entrance to the auditorium and said that we were going to start going in. Shaking from my nerves, I began to walk towards my seat, listening to the sound of the graduation music. As soon as I arrived, I collapsed into it and began praying to any and every god I could think of, hoping anyone could help me fulfill my dreams.

Once everyone had taken a seat, I nervously glanced at my surroundings, taking in the sight of my massive class of over a thousand students. I was rather close to the front, being rank 78, yet there was still a long wait ahead of me.

We started the main ceremony with a long, boring speech from the director, quickly followed by another speech from our valedictorian, and a third from our salutatorian. Once the speeches were finished, we began the part we had all been waiting for.

Countless powers were seen before I was called. There was everything from the basics like strength, and control over the elements, to the unusual ones, like an infinite appetite.

Soon, I was called. I stood up on shaky legs, and began the walk to the stage. The floor swam before me and I could feel all the eyes glued upon me, full of both curiosity and indifference. As I finally reached the stage and looked upon it, it seemed like an unsurpassable mountain. Nonetheless, I wouldn't stop. I climbed up the stairs and went onto the stage.

Once I arrived, it was surreal. I walked down the line, shaking the hands of all the big shots of the school district. At the end of the line, the stone floated in all its magnificence. It was slightly transparent and glowed with an iridescent light. I reached up and grabbed it. It was warm and cold, soft and hard, giving an indescribable feeling. After a mere moment I felt extremely weird. The only way to describe it is as different. After I let go, a simple word was projected, "Absorption".
