70 Chapter 58: The meaning of greatness

The moment the modified Durandal is about to be stabbed through my throat has a sudden epiphany.

-Worldsend, as well as this tower, are all part of my mind. How can Lucifer who is only an unwelcome guest in it? Wow, can he be more powerful than me?-

In a split second, I shatter the formation holding me down, dodge the stab and bury my left hand deep into his chest. Ignoring bones and muscle I grab his heard and rip it right out of his chest.

''Nice try Lucy!'' I say taking a few steps away from her.

-This person is not the King of Hell Lucifer. It is just a wannabe imposter remnant of him that tries to take over my female body. So I will call her Lucy.-

Looking back I see Lady Lucys body levitate off the ground slowly, seemingly siphoning the black blood on the ground below her. The moment she is a meter below the sealing she produces a fairly large blood explosion coating every surface in an abysmal color.

Everything suddenly vanishes except for the two of us and the clock-face of the Astralclock with the body behind it.

Recovering her body vitality Lucy ignites the black blood coating her weapon before disengaging her weapons mechanism to separate dagger from the sword. Swinging the blasting Durandal leisurely she sends out blazing sword slashes.

-Shit now all her attacks gain a fire property, which traces each attack, producing fire after the attack finishes. The fire is produced slightly further away from the blades, effectively extending her attack's range.- I think to be sure that if being hit by both the blade and the fire I probably have my consciousness erased.

-That wouldn't be much of a problem for me because I am sure that Lucy is unable to digest my soul, but forming a new one would take eons, a time measurement that neither Lara or Merry can survive.- I think while frantically dodging every attack coming my way.

I am so occupied with dodging that at first, I don't realize that some of her attacks are wide open for visceral attacks. It takes me an eternity to figure out the attack patterns displayed by Lucys far-reaching and vicious attacks.

Thinking about it I figure out that she is using three distinctly different movesets. While it isn't always clear which moveset the enemy uses next, I am confident in foreseeing the next attack when knowing the used moveset.

- Dual wielding moveset: Wielding both Durandal and her dagger to perform fame infused sweep, slash or thrust attacks.

One-handed moveset: Wielding the engaged sword/dagger hybrid with her right hand while spamming me with both 'Fulgur' and 'Vent'.

Flaming speer moveset: Wielding the flame-engulfed hybrid sword that forms a Flaming speer while using the concept of life spells 'Heavenly Healing' on herself as well as 'Wrath of the Deity' on me.-

Seeing her currently dual wielding I chose to mostly keep my distance and ask her. ''So what do you plan on doing after you have taken over my body?''

Smiling Lucy tells me. ''I plan on returning into the Realm of Aen and find that traitor Death who most likely already has killed the majority of my followers. He is so fond of you that he surely will jump at the occasion and make me his Queen.

On the night of the marriage, the zenith of his power I will kill him and unite his concept of death with my concept of life. After that, I will travel to Solitude and take my sweet time with your two lovers...''

Hearing her threaten Lara and Merry I get my judgment clouded by rage and attack her. Unable to get a single hit I narrowly avoid getting hit by her counter-attack out of sheer luck.

Knowing her current moveset to be the hardest one to get used to but also the best one to get some hits on her because she gives many good openings, attacking her out of rage is one of the dumbest actions I can make.

Now again staying clear headed I try to stay near her and circle right thinking. -It's key to memorize the slow charged attacks so that I don't dodge too soon and get hit.-

This moveset makes the Lucy highly aggressive, she often attempts to rush me down as soon as I try to gain some distance. It pays off to also be aggressive because the more damage I do to her the sooner she changes her moveset and the more likely it is to be the 'Flaming speer' one.

Using the openings wisely I am able to wound her fatally, forcing her to start healing. Seeing herself mortally wounded Lucy instantly casts 'Heavenly Haling'.

Knowing it to be her easiest to deal form I get really close to her and circle to the right. I dodge everything except 'Wrath of Deitys' spell by just closing in on her. Seeing her stab out at me I know it to be a series of fast pokes. Seeing her stabbings miss me and her healing spell come to an end I attack her with heavy attacks.

Seeing herself only getting more wounded than healed Lucy once again changes her moveset. Still, one handing her weapon she instantly shoots lightning inform of 'Fulgur' at me after trimming down the flames engulfing her weapon.

Seeing her do that I doge the sign and mockingly ask. ''Is that your idea of greatness?''

Signing this time 'Vent' Lucy answers me audible gnashing her teeth. ''I show you the meaning of greatness.''

Seeing the sign finished I am hit by a strong gust of wind pushing me nearly 20 meters away.

-Still keeping close is the way best way to beat this new moveset, as both signs used are only viable options when used from a certain distance.- I think closing the distance between us while avoiding lighting coming my way.

-'Fulgur' won't hit me when standing behind her and even if it does, I can simply step to the right and dodge it that way.- I think finally having closed the distance between us while only having got hit twice by lightning.

Her never dodging anything and only drawing runes slowly, I constantly have great openings to do some serious damage to her.

The best opening is when Lucy relatively innovative combines 'Fulgur' and 'Vent' simultaneously to create a large beam attack. Getting behind her while she is shooting it I am 100% safe to repeatedly slam my ax into her regenerating neck.

Remembering to keep close I slowly but steadily gain an advantage over her.

The moment I think her regenerative powers are at its lowest and she is changing into her 'Flame Speer' mode I change at her, aiming for her neck, interrupting her casting the healing spell.

Getting lucky my leviathan ax slices into her tender flesh. Not caring for bones I separate the head from the body.

With her body instantly collapsing on the floor, while being engulfed in black abysmal flames, I hear her head scream a deafening howl of madness. Hearing the scream subside, I feel like a door inside my very soul is being unlocked and I finally at long last feel hole again.

By successfully casting a witcher rune sign I am glad to confirm that I am once again able to freely switch between my two classes.

Searching the dead corpse of my enemy I find around pendant that looks nearly I identical to the Clock-face containing the floating body within.

Still standing in this abyss of a room I focus my mind on the pendant. A moment later knowledge about it surfaces inside my consciousness.

-Celestial Dial:

A celestial dial that functions with the Astralclock in the Astralclocktower.

When the dial is inserted into the clock it will come to life and reveal the secret of its creator.-
