28 Chapter 28. Affinity test day

The morning had once again come, as the dawning sun's ray shone over Leo through his opened bedroom thin bamboo window, waking from his long rejuvenating relaxing sleep.

Today was the day of the ceremony, and so to find out more about how it was going to be planned, Leo decided to have a walk around the clan to see the preparations and ask his Uncle Aron.

"Place the banner there!" the clan head's voice sounded as Leo arrived at the clan entrance.

"No! A little to the left!"

The clan was bustling with an extraordinary amount of activity today. This was particularly strange as it was still early in the morning but the clan was already as loud as they normally would be in the afternoon. The streets loud as there were countless lanterns and string and ribbons hung on the streets, bringing the festive feel to the usually boring and quiet street. Hearing Aron's voice, Leo immediately made his way towards the voice as he found Aron. He was extremely busy coordinating the countless workers and clan members with setting up the greetings banner at the clan entrance.

"Hey Uncle Aron!" Leo greeted as he walked forward towards him.

Hearing Leo's voice call out, Aron turned around to see Leo walking towards him, a smile appeared on his face as he also greeted, "Leo, good morning. Sleep well?"

"Yes. Grandpa's place is really peaceful. So how're the preparations going?" Leo replied back with a smile as he asked.

"Let me show you around, you can it for yourself," replied the clan head as he took Leo around the places in the clan that were expecting guests.

"My goodness, who is that boy?"

"I've seen him before, I saw him walking around the clan with the clan elder before,"

Whispers occurred between the workers and the clansmen as they began discussing over the Leo's identity. This was their clan head, a cultivator that had gone above emission realm. Someone that was feared by the whole city. The clan head had never treated anyone this nicely except his own children but they had never heard of the clan head having a son like Leo so that couldn't be a possibility.

While following Aron, Leo was thoroughly informed on how the proceeding today would happen. Since the event was a whole city occasion, everyone in the city would be invited, nobles were all able to get checked free of charge but the lesser status were all required to pay a small fee. When the gusts would arrive, they would be welcomed by the large banner that they had just set up. And after the entrance, they would slowly make their way into the arena to get their affinities tested but everyone who arrived early would be asked to waiting in the clan's field that was planned to host them for a feast after the party.

"Here is our clan arena. This is where your affinities will be checked. Just behind the arena is the clan's field. This is where we will be holding the banquet. We are expecting to feed around two hundred thousand five hundred people. There will be a commoners' section and a clan section. Members of the clan really don't want to associate themselves with the poor people of the city. Anyways, you should go now. If your grandfather sees me talking to you in public. I'll have a lot of explaining to do. He doesn't want you guys to be known by others yet," Aron explained.

"Haha! I see. Then I'll be off. Good luck with the preparations," laughed Leo as he walked off in the direction of the clan elder's land while waving goodbye to the clan head.

And so, Leo walked home and made breakfast for himself as everyone else were still asleep. There were currently about four hours until the ceremony so he decided to train for a bit. He worked on his killing intent for an hour. Although, he could not fully control it yet, he could release and take it back at will but the amount that he could control right now was only enough to threaten gathering realm cultivators. His stats had improved now:

It had seemed that the two talents that he gained from the mansion had become improved. Leo had taken quite a beating from the thunder and lightning that he faced during the village battle and the eyes had improved because of Leo's study with it and his continuous use of them like using them for altering the cultivation hiding art. He was so busy with his cultivation that he didn't find time to do so but now he had made it to gathering realm and he couldn't unseal the second door unless he made some arts but he still had time. And for the last hours, Leo decided to work on his element manipulation.

"Ok, it's about time now. I should go and get ready now," Leo spoke to himself as he returned to wash up and eventually got ready about half an hour before the ceremony and left with Aurora. "Jeez, you take long," commented Aurora as she gave him an annoyed expression.

"Sorry… but we're not gonna be late either," said Leo lazily in reply as he tried to defend himself.

He was wearing his original black outfit, which consisted of a simple black top with dark leggings which radiated a cool, mysterious aura. And Aurora was wearing the clothes which Leo had first bought for her along with a veil covering her face, learning from her first mistake, they decided that this was the best thing to do right now. This was suggested by Leo as he did not want Aurora to get into another pickle.

Leo and Aurora made it to the arena in about ten minutes. By the time they got there, all the other clan children had arrived. The rarely used arena was now bustling with people talking with one another while others were just standing blankly. Seeing that everyone was here, Aurora gave Leo another annoyed look. And this time Leo could not help but take the L. All the kids could be seen standing in different groups. They all wore different clothes so it was hard to distinguish everyone's clan from their looks. Leo recognized some Decan clan members from the clothes, hanging out with other people that he never knew. However, while he was taking a good look around the arena, his attention fell on the middle of the large building.

In the middle of the arena was what seemed to be a large object that was veiled by a large dark cloth standing on an elevated wooden stand that was a few meters in diameter. And what made it particularly interesting was that everyone of the kids seemed to avoid it and not walked around it from now.

'This must be the elemental affinity machine,' Leo thought.

"Let's go and find a quiet place to sit down," Leo suggested as Aurora followed him as they looked around for a place to sit.

And not long after, the duo quickly found an isolated place and began patiently waiting. Once sat, Leo looked around trying to find the clan heads and other older people but they were not here yet.

'There must still be sometime left,' he thought as he closed his eyes to take a short rest.

After sitting down, Aurora's eyes began to scan around the children who were from a lower class. And eventually her gaze managed to fall upon a boy with ragged clothes who was sitting with his hand on his knees and head down, he seemed to be afraid as he nervously glanced around repeatedly before slowly dropping his head down again.

"Leo, let's change seats," Aurora suddenly spoke as she stood up.

"Fine," Leo agreed as he opened his eyes and followed Aurora and the duo started walked towards the boy. Extremely aware of his surroundings, the boy almost instantly realized the two walking towards him and he started panicking and was just get up and switch his seating place when Aurora came up to him and asked him, "can we sit next to you?"

"Huh?" the boy was lost. He did not expect that someone with such luxurious clothes would want to sit next to him. Were they after something? Did he do something wrong? What did he have that could attract them?

"Are you ok? Can we join you?" asked Leo again nonchalantly as he realizing that the boy was lost in confusion.

The boy nervously nodded as he was brought back from his mindless state and shuffled a little bit to the left.

Seeing that they were not rejected, Aurora and Leo approached and sat next to him.
