1 Admission Into The Imperial Academy

Thirty years ago, a beam of light shot up into the sky. With its appearance came the emergence of the supernatural that the world had long since forgotten.

Beasts of yore have resurfaced, and intend to overrun humanity, but they are limited by one thing. The Sanctum.

The Sanctum, also known as God's Sanctum, has been upholding its role of suppressing the supernatural forces of the world for time untold, but now, it is weak, and there is no one to reinforce it, which has lead to the reemergence of the supernatural.

Along with the appearance of God's Sanctum, people began to develop strange abilities. Some of them developed physical abilities that augmented their bodies, while other developed an aptitude that let them cast elements. These people came to be known as Mages.

The Mages were divided into two categories. The Combiners, and the Casters.

The Combiner Mages were able to combine with the elements they summoned and use that element to augment their bodies. This gave them vastly higher physical stats than any other human being.

The Casters, unlike the Combiners, used their summoned elements to directly fight and attack their enemies. They favored long distance battles more because their bodies were not up to par in a close range fight.

These two types of Mages formed the foundation of humanity's struggle against the supernatural forces of God's Sanctum.

It took ten years for the newly emerged Mages to push back the supernatural forces from the Sanctum. Through that time, they had received a lot of help, especially from a friend they never knew that they had.

The Sanctum as not just full of hostile forces. There were some peace loving civilizations amongst the races in the Sanctum too. Although not every member of these races were amicable, most of them were.

When humanity was in danger of being overrun, they appeared and held back the supernatural forces long enough for humanity to get back on its feet and pull its game together.

After forcing back the forces of the Sanctum, it took another ten years for humanity to build back what it had lost in those ten years of war.

After those ten years, humanity was back on its feet, but was even stronger! Old Earth was no more, and now, a new era had dawned on humanity. The Sanctum Era.

11 S.E, the Eleventh Calendar Year of the Sanctum Era.

The Imperial Magic Academy had just opened its admission, and a lot of young Mages had already joined it. Leon Cromwell is one of the aspiring young Mages that seek glory and fame, and hope to do it through the course of the Imperial Magic Academy.

The Imperial Magic Academy was not like the schools of old earth where students sat down all day in classes and learned a lot of theory with minimum practical work. Instead, the Imperial Magic Academy's classes were more proactive and practical.

"Ah, the air here smells different." Leon breathed in and sighed. He had just stepped through the main gates of the main campus of the Imperial Magic Academy.

"Right, it does feel strange. And also looks strange." A middle aged woman who was beside Leon said. She looked exactly like Leon, but was missing his jet black hair, and instead sported a head of brown hair. She was Leon's mother, Kate.

"Hello, how can I help you?" A person who was standing at the side of the gate asked as he walked over. A wide smile split his face.

"Um... Um..." Kate stuttered as she looked up at the hulking person. He was at least, 2.5 meters tall, and was covered in a lot of short, brown fur. Bulging muscles covered his exposed arms, and two short horns crowned the top of his head. Leon assumed he was a Minotaur, based on what he knew about the mythical creatures.

"Hi, I'm Leon Cromwell, and I just enrolled in the Academy. The site said we would have a tour guide waiting for us at the gate." Leon stepped forward and spoke up, saving his mother from embarrassing herself.

"Ah, yes, I am your guide. Please follow me." The Minotaur man said and gestured for them to follow him. "Welcome to the Imperial Magic Academy, Leon. We are glad to have you here. Mages of all caliber try out our exams every year, but only a fraction of them are able to pass them. To be here, that means you are a powerful Mage in this generation. Ah, sorry for the bluntness, my name is Ezekiel, but you can call me Zeke." Zeke laughed.

Zeke led the son and mother to a small golf cart and got into the front. The two of them got into the back.

"Before I take you to the academic office, we will have a short tour around campus." He told them as he smoothly started the cart and drove off.

"That there, is the Imperial Lance, the symbol of humanity." As they drove, Zeke introduced a lot of things to them, from buildings of importance, to even restrooms. Before long, they had reached the center of the campus, where a gigantic, white pole that reached up to the skies was located. It was much, much taller than a skyscraper of old earth, and Leon could not comprehend how it had even been built!

After over an hour of driving around and making short stops, Zeke finally parked the cart in front of a large building that had many other white carts parked in front of it. A large, metal plaque at the top of it read "Academic Office" in big characters.

"We have arrived at the Academic Office, where all admission applications are processed. Here, you will receive your campus assignment, and everything else will be taken care of." Zeke announced as the alighted from the cart. The imposing building cast its shadow over them, making them look like unimportant compared to it.

A pair of armed humans stopped Zeke and the two humans following him.

"Where to?"

"I am acting as a guide for Leon Cromwell, and his mother. This is my pass." Zeke brought out a plastic card and showed the guard. After a few seconds of inspecting the card, the guards waved them through.

"I have a question." Leon spoke up from behind.

"Ask away." Zeke was direct, and stopped.

"Are you a staff or a student here?" Leon asked, looking up at the imposing Minotaur.

"I am a student. I am only temporarily acting as a guide while some issues with my campus assignment are being taken care of. I should get my assignment when I am done with handling you guys." Zeke grinned at them.

They soon arrived at an office where a lot of papers were stacked up. Zeke knocked on the door, and after receiving the approval to enter, he did with Leon and Kate.

"Hi, Miss Eve, I'm here with Leon, the new student, and his mother." Zeke greeted the lady behind the desk in the office.

"Ah, Zeke. Good job. Sorry, I'm really busy right now. The files with both your assignments are over there." Miss Eve, the receptionist, managed to say, while balancing a phone between her ear and shoulder, while also sorting through some files.

"Ah, alright." Zeke nodded and picked up the files she had motioned to. He led Leon and Kate back out of the office before handing Leon his own file, and opening his own.

"Oh! I get to stay on the main campus!" Zeke exclaimed with bright eyes.

"What a coincidence. So do I." Leon said, looking up from his own file.
